A tree-relocation project aims to dig up plants from
future construction areas, where the plants would
otherwise be destroyed, and transplant them to other
locations around the property where they are needed .
Not only does this reduce green waste from the
construction site and save thousands of plants from
being abolished, but this program is also estimated to
save almost $336,000 USD annually.
Congratulations to the landscape team for managing
this very innovative program!

Jason Mraz Über Impressed by
Sustainability at Marina Bay Sands
Regarding Sustainability at Marina Bay Sands, singer-songwriter
Mraz states: “Trust me. They’ve thought of everything here.”
Grammy-award winning artist Jason Mraz ‘stayed green’ at Marina Bay Sands while in Singapore for a concert.
Led by Kevin Teng, Director of Sustainability at Marina Bay Sands, Team Members went the extra mile to create eco-customized rooms for Mraz and his entourage. The artist particularly liked that the property decomposed food waste in-house, controlled the plug loads of TVs and appliances, and measured guest’s carbon footprint.
Mraz is known for his dedication to green advocacy and has won several sustainability awards. He wrote extensively about how impressed he was during his stay on his website: jasonmraz.com. Congratulations to the Marina Bay Sands team who clearly made a
fantastically ‘green’ impression on Mraz!
“I applaud the hotel
where I currently
reside in Singapore,
The Marina Bay
Sands, for their
extraordinary efforts
in greening their
business and
beautiful sovereign
state.”

Palazzo Lighting Retrofit Complete
With 3066 suites at The Palazzo, one small lighting change
out will have enormous savings implications.
Thanks to the tremendous leadership of James Gonsalves, Chief
Engineer at The Venetian | The Palazzo, the lighting retrofit of the
Palazzo tower proved to be a smooth and successful project. After the
procurement team vigorously negotiated with vendors to generate
competitive pricing options, James crafted a complete installation plan
and led his team to finish the project ahead of time in June. With a
$33,000 rebate, this massive project is projected to save over $455,000
and 5.3 million kWh a year!
‘Well done!’ also goes to Rishi Tirupari, Sustainability Project Manager
at The Venetian | The Palazzo for helping plan the change out, and to
Gonsalves and his team for the successful implementation.

“Go Green” Ambassador
Program Began In Singapore
Selecting delegates at all levels and on all departments to
represent their colleagues allows for direct communication
to Team Members about sustainability initiatives, which
promotes awareness, participation, and enthusiasm.
Mandy Martin (Global Sustainability Manager, Las Vegas Sands): So enlighten us, what is the “Go Green Ambassador Program” about? Kevin Teng (Director of Sustainability, Marina Bay Sands): It aims to engage all Team Members in green events to better convey these messages.
MM: Who can become a Go Green Ambassador? KT: Any Team Member! At least one elected or volunteer Go Green Champion will be selected per department.
MM: What do the Go Green Champions get to do? KT: First, they get to be decked out in these awesome bold green t-shirts! They will share details about events and answer questions about how to be green. Lastly, they’ll lead the green effort by example.
MM: What kinds of events, and how often will they be? KT: We’re aiming for at least one per month. We will honor external events, such as Earth Day and World Hunger Day, and will create our own internal events, such as a “Lucky Dip” recycling drive, Paper Cut campaign, lantern building event from recycled material, and tree-planting ceremonies.

1st CDP Response Submitted
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent
group working to reduce carbon emissions and water use.
After months of extensive data collection and analysis, LVSC
registered 904,812 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent
(CO2e) for our 2011 CDP submittal.
We achieved the highest verification level in the category,
thus are pleased with the result! Going forward, we will
rotate verification among our properties worldwide to fully
validate our corporation’s carbon inventory.

PA Blown Away by Hand Dryers
Life cycle analysis’ showed the use of paper towels has double
the global warming burden then that of hand dryers – at 1.6 tons
of C02 versus 4.6 tons respectively over the same time period.
Only a couple of weeks into his new post as the Director of Public Areas
Department, Donato Mercuri, above, was troubled by something: the
property goes through a staggering amount of paper towels every day.
After some investigation, Donato discovered that the staggering amount
totaled to 15 cases a day – a cost of $239,465 each year! Knowing that
using so much paper towels can also be detrimental to the environment, he
worked with Director of Purchasing and sustainability champion, Fran
Abuisi, to make the transition to hand dryers.
A pilot of the equipment in the new event center, which opened in May,
compared several product options, including Dyson and TOTO. After an
analysis of the different options, the pilot revealed that the TOTO dryers
were the best option. Making the switch is also projected to save almost
$220,000 a year.
Subsequently, a plan is in motion to replace paper towels with hand dryers
in restrooms across the Bethlehem property.

New Launch >>>
Sands China partnered with the Macau Ecological Society to establish the Sands China Green Fund in June, 2012. President and Chief Executive
Officer, Edward Tracy, not only presented a substantial check to the organization totaling $112,000 USD, but also promised ongoing support to the
organization. Half of the money was raised at the Venetian Carnival Mardi Gras Costume Charity Ball, held on May 26th, 2012. In attendance was
over 1,000 guests, including Macao government officials, celebrities, business partners and community supporters. A silent auction displayed some
very unique items, like an autograph of the French Open 2011 winner Li Na and the gold Puma boots of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt!
To maximize the fundraising potential of the event, Sands China offered to match all funds raised to double the donation. The money will be used
for scholarships for local students taking up higher-level programs in environment studies; this year, 48 places will be available. Funds for a
sponsorship program, open to all Macao residents, will support environmental conservation campaigns throughout the region.
Sands China decided to become involved because environmental sustainability is such an important aspect of our company’s operations, and
knowing what a popular event The Venetian Carnival is, the Charity Ball seemed like a perfect opportunity to advance the company’s corporate
social responsibility efforts.

“Your commitment to reducing waste and, more importantly,
donating food to help those in need …makes a tremendous
difference in our community.”
- John Fogal, Director of Development, LV Rescue Mission
Every day, twelve tons of food waste arrives at The Venetian | The Palazzo
dock! But this will change due to the diligent efforts of our Team Members to
reduce waste by donating leftovers. Executive Chef Olivier Dubreuil
spearheaded the project and Stewarding Manager Apollo Perez (above right)
overseas implementation. The food is stored in-house for next-day pickup,
transported in a temperature-controlled truck, and brought to the Las Vegas
Rescue Mission, which feeds the hungry and provides support to those in need.
In Q2, a total of 43,000 pounds of food was donated!

Awards >>>
At the close of 2011, The Venetian | The Palazzo launched the
Green Awards program. The response from Team Members
was astounding; more than 25 ideas backed up by return-on-
investment analysis have been suggested since inception! This
quarter, two more winners have been selected.
First, Billy Flesher (left) presented his idea to replace all 77
175-watt exterior light packs with 85-watt fluorescent
replacements. Doing so will save over 70,500 kWh and almost
$5,500 a year.
The second winning idea was submitted by Luis Colatto
(right). Noticing that there was water left over from the nano-
filtration system after use in horticulture, he suggested to us
the excess for washing down vehicles and filling up exterior
fountains. This will save almost three million gallons of water
and $12,500 every year! Congratulations and thank-you to
Billy and Luis!
2 More Green Award Winners
The launch of the Green Awards program in the
facilities department sparked Team Members to think
creatively about their jobs to identify efficiency ideas
at the Las Vegas campus.
