Dear Sandburg Families and Friends, According the John Hattie, educational researcher and author of Visible Learning for Teachers, one of the biggest influences on student achievement is “collective teacher efficacy”. Efficacy is the ability to produce a desired or intended result. It would be impossible to have this ability without believing that students are able to produce the desired result. When all teachers share this belief, imagine the impact on each and every child. Take it one step further. When this belief that each and every child is capable of learning at high levels is shared at a home and school, then there is no limit to the learning possibilities. This is my hope for Sandburg and something that we are working toward this year. I’ve noticed an interest from many of our new families to get involved in various ways at Sandburg. Dear Sandburg Families and Friends,

According the John Hattie, educational researcher and author of Visible Learning for

Teachers, one of the biggest influences on student achievement is “collective teacher

efficacy”. Efficacy is the ability to produce a desired or intended result. It would be

impossible to have this ability without believing that students are able to produce the

desired result. When all teachers share this belief, imagine the impact on each and every

child. Take it one step further. When this belief that each and every child is capable of

learning at high levels is shared at a home and school, then there is no limit to the learning

possibilities. This is my hope for Sandburg and something that we are working toward this

year.

I’ve noticed an interest from many of our new families to get involved in various ways at

Sandburg. New volunteers, increased attendance at PTA meetings, and questions about how

to get involved are all indicators of this increased level of partnership that we are enjoying

so far this year. This is a sure sign that Sandburg will be in great shape for many years.

The level of interest and support of the Roadrunner Relays was one of those indicators.

Thanks to the Sandburg PTA, staff, and many Sandburg students and families, we enjoyed a

successful event and fundraiser that exceeded our expectations. Thank you for your support.

Parent-teacher conferences begin this Thursday and are a great way to connect with your

child’s classroom teacher, as you work together for a successful school year. If you have not

done so already, please go to the school website and sign up for a time, or call the school

office. (1-630-682-2105) The conference schedule is as follows:

Thursday, October 13, 4:00-8:00 PM

Monday, October 17, 4:00-8:00 PM

Wednesday, October 19, 4:00-8:00 PM

PTA volunteers and members of the Sandburg staff have been collaborating to plan a

STEAM Fair on Friday, October 21. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering,

arts, and mathematics. We are looking forward to an engaging, enjoyable, and educational

experience for all of our students. Thank you for your help.

Halloween is Monday, October 31. Our parade will be from 1:45-2:30 PM, and classroom

parties will be 2:30-3:30 PM. Please be mindful of the what is stated on the Sandburg

Handbook. Basically, costumes that depict violence and prevent the clear identity of

students are not allowed. Also, props that look like or depict weapons are not allowed. For

further information, please access the Sandburg handbook. We are looking forward to a fun,

but safe experience for all involved.

There are many more October happenings at Sandburg. Please take a look at the school

calendar and stay connected. Thank you for all of your support.

Sincerely,

Aaron Bacon
