Your lens and your cinema can ask the ques2ons that haven’t seen the light of day. Your stories can rewrite the canon of Indian Cinema. Take this chance to have your work spoken of alongside previous film-makers at Samuday ke Saath, a short film compe22on, who have received na2onal and interna2onal acclaim at 2017 Kaohsiung Interna3onal Short Film Compe33on, 6th Garifuna Interna3onal Indigenous Film Fes3val, California, Los Angeles 2017, '8th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Fes3val- 2018’. Since its incep2on in 2015, Samuday ke Saath has recognised the power of films in upholding and bringing forth the voices that speak of tribal iden2ty and culture and challenges, fears, sorrows and narra2ves that influence and shape the tribal communi2es at large, for it is the medium of cinema that not only has a cathar2c effect but also encourages meaningful conversa2ons that can propel people into ac2on. In the past, we have reached more than 13,000 tribal women and men in Jharkhand and Odisha through community screenings. In 2019 we open up this plaNorm, yet again, to passionate and crea2ve film-makers and enthusiasts to add to this journey of crea2ng alterna2ve cinema that can speak of the stories people need to hear. Samuday ke Saath To appreciate the best of tribal films by students and development prac22oners this year we seek entries that revolve around ‘Tribalism.Today.’ How are tribal communi2es engaging with 21ˢᵗ century phenomena like climate change? Are the needs of the tribal youth same as they were 50 years ago? In a world where development is increasingly becoming synonymous with the existence of policies, how conscious is the tribal community of its rights? Does the tribal community have answers to the world’s most burning ques2ons around sustainable living? We invite interested candidates to explore these areas and other aspects influencing the tribal community to bring us stories hidden in the interiors, overshadowed by other perspec2ves, or revolu2ons that are erup2ng in diverse ways. As we say, the stage is set.
