A Message from StevenWhere has 2017 gone to? Who knows! It doesn’t seem two minutes since we were preparing for last Christmas. Time is flying by and many things have happened in 2017.

2017 has been a year of mixed emotions as we have celebrated many joyous occasions as a church like Infant Dedications, Weddings and of course last week a Baptism. We have also welcomed new groups to our church who will use our building on a regular basis. We have been blessed with many different things over the last 12 months and we thank God for them.

It has also been a year of great sadness as we said goodbye to some of our good friends. We think especially of Jim and Ian, and their families at this time, and thank the Lord for all their work, friendship, and dedication over the years. They were great friends and will be sadly missed.

So, what for the future and the coming year? What will 2018 bring to Salendine Nook Baptist Church?

Bethlehem was waiting, and so do we at Salendine Nook

Advent is a busy time of waiting, excitement, anticipation and preparation, as we prepare for the coming of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. We too as a Church are in a time of waiting and preparation, as we look to the future and seek Gods wisdom for the witness of this Church in and through Jesus Christ. The first Sunday in Advent saw the dawn of a New Year within the Christian Calendar and as 2018 approaches we now start another new chapter in the church’s

long history.

In summer we said goodbye to Lee, Helen and Sarah, as they left to continue their ministry in East Anglia, and as a Church we wished them well on their new venture. As a consequence, we are starting to consider our future again. We look forward to our Vision day on 20th January 2018 as we come together to talk and pray as a fellowship. We pray for this time that we will spend together and for the support of the Church and the fellowship as we move to our next chapter. So, exciting times ahead, something to look forward to with anticipation and wonder.

So, as we and the world waits for the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ this Christmas time, let us open our hearts and let the Joy of Christmas pour out from us at this Church here at Salendine Nook in this coming year. As we prepare for the future let the gift that God has given to us, the gift of his only Son Jesus Christ, be at the centre of all that we do. So that God’s gift to us All will be with us always and the joy of Christmas be in our hearts in all that we seek to do in his name in the coming year.

May I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and blessed New Year

Yours in His Service

Steve

BMS Stamp Appeal

Since the late 1920s, the BMS Stamp Bureau has been raising money for BMS World Mission by gathering and selling used postage stamps and other collectables.

With your help, it raises over £10,000 each year which goes directly to support the work of transforming lives around the world.

Collecting stamps is a GREAT way to support charity, especially as we’re re-using things that would probably get thrown away!

In addition to stamps, BMS also welcome collectable items such as:

• Coins and notes - foreign and pre-decimal British

• Medals and badges - especially military, police or fire service

• Postcards - especially older ones but newer ones also required

• Cigarette and tea cards

Salendine Nook Baptist Church has a stamp collection point on the table at the back of the worship area - any stamp donations gratefully welcome!

(Please do not soak them off the envelope - they can be damaged this way and lose their value).

boxes by the last Sunday in JanuaryThank You

At Christmas-time our hearts reach out to friends we think of dearly,

and checking through our Friendship lists as we do yearly,

we stop a while to reminisce, and to pleasantly review,

happy little happenings, and things we used to do,

and though we’ve been too busy to keep in touch all year.

We send a Christmas greeting at this season of good cheer.

So Christmas is a lovely link between old years and new.

That keeps the bond of friendship forever broken and true.

Nook WalkersIn November Nook Walkers went on a walk starting at Robertstown. We walked across fields to Hartshead, and returned to the start through the woods by Hartshead Hall. Our

lunch stop was on the benches in Saint Peter’s Parish Church, Hartshead.

We were fortunate to have good weather.

We have a walk every month on the third Wednesday of the month, meeting at 10:30am at the Church. The walks are usually around 5 miles long.

All welcome

Women’s Fellowship

As we come to the end of our Autumn Session, we look back on a happy and friendly time spent with the ladies of the Fellowship. We enjoyed our Harvest Lunch of Meat and Potato Pie, followed by a short service of Thanksgiving for all Gods goodness. We had a trip to New Zealand with Susan, and heard about the work at Tolson Museum from Mrs A Denham. Mrs D Hughes opened our eyes to the heartbreak and problems to be found on the streets of Huddersfield. On December 12th we had a Carols and Cakes Meeting. This will be an open meeting which Mrs P Ambler will be taking.

And so to 2018, what have we to look forward to? Our Fellowship has grown in numbers, for which we have to thank God, and hope and pray that this will continue in the future years.

We have some interesting speakers booked for 2018. The new Winter Session begins with

« A Friendship Afternoon on January 30th at 2pm in the Vestry.

« February 13th - Councillor Andrew Marchington

« March 13th - P.C.S.O M. Tariq. “Prevention Crime Input”. This will be an open meeting for anyone who wishes to join us. 2pm in the vestry.

« March 27th - Lenten Lunch with Easter Service.

« April 24th - Hand Bells - Karen Kent.

« May 8th - Rev Adrian Ward

« May 24th - Cream Tea

All these meetings are held in the vestry on Tuesday Afternoons at 2pm. All ladies are invited to come along and join us.
