Are You A Photographer? (Because

every time I look at you, I smile!)

The Communications Department is looking for a few extra people to help out with taking pictures at events to use on social media, our upcoming website, and in print. We hope to assemble a team of people who can capture our candid mo-ments with Christ. The wonder and beauty that comes from such moments can be a great tool for evangelization. DSLR (or SLR) experience would be a great plus but not needed if you are great with a camera in general! Send a few sam-ple pictures to Manisha, Director of Communica-tions, at: [email protected] to sign up. As Pope Saint John Paul II said, "The purpose of art is nothing less than the upliftment of the human spirit." We hope your gifts and tal-ents in photography will help us do just that for our Saints Peter and Paul Parish community.

Do you have a non-Catholic spouse that might be open to considering becoming Catholic? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then RCIA might be the right fit for you! RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process of preparing adults and children over the age of 10, for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Women’s Evening Cafe Monday, April 25, 2016 6:30PM

Pope Francis has helped promote devotion to the Blessed Mother under the title, “Our Lady Undoer of Knots.” Many who attended the 2015 World Meet-ing of Families in Philadelphia were very moved by the beautiful shrine that was set up for people to ask Our Lady to help undo the “knots” in their lives through her powerful intercession. Would you like to know more about this devotion and how it came about? Come to our next Women’s Evening Cafe and listen as one of our parishioners, Sheila John-son, will present on this topic. All the women of our parish are encouraged to bring a friend or neighbor and come to the cafe on Monday, April 25 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Center, meeting room 11. Refreshments will be served. Baked goods are always welcome!

11 Cents: Counting The Cost

The current view of Jesus, by many, is of a man so soft and mild, that He would not demand anything serious of His followers. It is important to remem-ber that Jesus has expectations for His followers. I think that a religion that asks nothing of us, is just a security blanket or maybe a family habit? Our reli-gion on the other hand, perfects us. It transforms us. Jesus wants to bring about this transformation by one key demand, and it’s a steep one: He wants all of you, not just your Sundays, not just your trag-edies, not just your requests. He wants your whole being. He wants to be the most important thing in your life; in fact, He requires it.

When large crowds were following Him for the wrong reason, Jesus explained that a builder would not build without a plan, and a King would not enter battle without a strategy. Likewise, He wanted them to think in advance what they were signing up for in following Him. He said, “Whoever comes to Me and does not hate father, mother, wife, children, broth-ers, sisters, and even life itself, cannot be my Disci-ple (Luke 14:26).” He also adds, “Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me, cannot be my disci-ple (Luke 14:27).”

The word “hate” in Scripture does not mean nega-tive feelings towards, but to “care for less than” or “love less than.” It is clear that Jesus is asking us to make Him the most important part of our lives, above everything else. He also demands that we carry our cross and follow Him in suffering for the salvation of the world. We have come to make that a poetic symbol of carrying our burdens, but to the Jews of that time, the cross was a torture device used to kill and intimidate. It wasn’t poetic. He was making a demand. A surrender of your life. Are you willing to you offer it?
