Update on Parish Renovations and our Capital Campaign

June, 2018

Dear friends in the Lord,

As you know, last summer we completed the first phase of several planned capital projects here at St. Joseph’s. The comprehensive renovation of the entire lower level of the Elementary School offers stu-dents and staff exciting educational opportunities such as a STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Education, Arts and Mathematics) laboratory as well as a comfortable updated library, dining and meeting space, and music classroom.

This summer, we will undertake a second phase to the Elementary School project, providing an out-door classroom for shared use between the Elementary and Middle Schools, as well as a new play area for the younger ones.

Regarding the addition of an elevator/lobby and handicappedaccessible bathroom in our Church, we have engaged with an architectural firm to finalize the plans, which now must also include the instal-lation of a new firealarm system in the Church. You will be hearing many more details about these exciting improvements in the near future, as we anticipate the launch of the Church project this com-ing fall.

All of this is made possible through the generous support of our parishioners and school families who have contributed to the successful “Building for Tomorrow” campaign. Launched when an anony-mous donor offered an extraordinary $1.5 million challengetomatch gift for renovations to our Ele-mentary School, the campaign raised more than $2.5 million in new gifts and secured the $1.5 million matching gift for a campaign total surpassing $4 million!

While exceeding our campaign goal, however, we have encountered several unanticipated expenses in undertaking our capital projects, which is not entirely unexpected given the age of our facilities. Even with careful planning and oversight, and the presence of a reserve fund, we find that additional sup-port is now required to address these costs.

You will be hearing more about this in the days to come. At this time, we hope that you will consider how you can help us to complete this effort that we have launched so successfully.

We are deeply grateful for all that you do in support of our parish and our school communities.

Sincerely,

Rev. David C. Michael, Pastor
