From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:As we prepare to celebrate Jesus Christ’s birthday this Christmas, He invites us through

His Holy Word to truly live our Catholic Christian faith (Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 85; 2 Peter 3:8-14; Mark 1:1-8), faith that changes us and conforms us to God who is love For most of Israel’s religious leaders, the Pharisees and Sadducees, who came to be baptized by John in the Jordan River (Mark 1:1-8), this did not happen – they knew their faith, but it did not change them That’s why Saint John the Baptist warns them that simply knowing or appearing to know your faith was not enough – they needed to repent of their sins and to let their faith change their hearts

To live our Catholic Christian faith, we need to let it change our hearts As disciples of Jesus Christ, this means that our faith leads to a personal friendship with Jesus, to not only know about Him, but to know, love and serve God now so that by His grace we will be eternally happy with Him in Heaven The Eucharist, Holy Mass, is central to living our faith – yet, even at Mass we can become casual about living our faith and not really pray the Mass, which then affects our attitude, words, manner of dress and actions Before the pandemic, many people had become so casual and indifferent that fewer than half of all Catholics and Protestants nationwide were going to church on Sundays (many students in Catholic schools and religious education were not attending Sunday Mass), for reasons that did not include illness, the weather or work Since the pandemic, which we’re getting through by God’s grace, even fewer Christians are attending church Let’s keep praying for and inviting families, friends and others to return to Mass, relieved of anxieties and worries Since our US Constitution and First Amendment state that we have the freedom of religion, let’s also remember that we the people, and not politicians, should decide whether we go to church or stay home and watch the Mass virtually

By virtue of our baptism in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we’re called to live the faith that we profess in word and deed, to prepare the Way of the Lord (Isaiah 40; Mark 1; Matthew 7:21-28 and 25:1-46) So, we: pray; read the Bible (not just at Mass); keep the two great Commandments, love of God and love of neighbor; frequent the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Confession; proclaim the Truth with love about God’s gift of life, family and marriage; bear the fruits of His Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity (Galatians 5; John 15:16); and realize that Jesus Christ is present at every moment, making every moment matter (Matthew 28:16-20) If we forget this and give in to sin, then we need to repent and seek God’s forgiveness and mercy as we strive for holiness (Mark 1; 2 Peter 3:8-14)

As we strive to live our Catholic Christian faith, let us pray to God each day, preparing the Way of the Lord in our hearts and thereby repelling the devil and discouragement As we prepare to celebrate Jesus Christ’s birthday and His Second Coming (at an hour and day we do not know), let us ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, Saint Clement and all the saints to help us prepare with an awareness of God’s presence at every moment, allowing Him to sanctify those moments, living the virtues of faith, hope and love, bearing the fruits of the Spirit, praying to the Father, through the Son and in the Spirit, more and more conformed to the heart of Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, as He leads and guides us to life everlasting in Heaven Amen

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS!The Knights of Columbus are conducting their annual

“Keep Christ in Christmas” endeavor, with a special twist this year They are encouraging parishioners to set up a Christmas outdoor yard display with the theme of “Keep Christ in Christmas” It can be simple, it can be elaborate The focus is to tell the community of the Birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ Contact Bill Seyer at 988-6543 to let him know that you are participating On the week of December 21, members of the KCs will drive by each participating home to pick a winner We will also publish in the bulletin the addresses of those who are participating so that you too can see the many displays of “Keep Christ in Christmas” For questions or to participate, call Bill Seyer

IN MEMORIAMIn these early days of the Advent Season, as we look forward to

celebrating the birth of our Savior and His coming again in glory, please remember in your prayers Patricia Broihahn of our parish who died on November 20, and whose funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, November 24 Pat was 93 years young at the time of her death Patricia grew up in the Lancaster area and never moved very far away In 1949 she was united in love and marriage to Ivan Broihahn and together they farmed, raising six children Later in life, Pat was a cook for Lancaster Middle School, a job she thoroughly enjoyed, as well as the students and staff who savored her meals! Pat looked forward to her time with family and friends, and she was very devoted to her faith and to our parish, volunteering in many areas Pat was a very prayerful, gentle and kind and grateful woman As we keep this good and dear lady in our prayers, may we also pray for her beloved children: Bob & LaVon, Bill & Pam, Jim & Bev, Kay & Greg, Jann & Tom, Dave & Rhonda, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all of her loved ones in this time of sorrow May God’s consolation and comfort be with them

“Eternal rest grant unto Patricia, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful

departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY

On Tuesday, December 8th, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of our Holy Days of obligation Mass will be offered at 8:15 & 9:45 AM, and at 7 PM This Solemnity is often confused with the Solemnity of the Annunciation (March 25) when the angel Gabriel comes to Mary to tell her that she is to be the mother of our Savior The Immaculate Conception celebrates the conception of Mary in her mother’s womb, where Mary is kept free from Original Sin by the power of God’s grace that she would be a pure vessel for her Son It is under the title of “The Immaculate Conception” that Mary is the patroness of the United States We, with St Gabriel, give her honor and sing God’s praises by saying, “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”

CHRISTMAS MEMORIALS Happy “New” Church Year! As we begin the Advent Season, we

offer you an opportunity to remember your deceased loved ones through Christmas memorial donations The money we collect will go toward decorating the Church during Advent and throughout the Christmas Season Please put your donation in an envelope marked with your name and name(s) of those you wish to remember, and drop the envelope in the offertory basket or at the Parish Office (all checks payable to St Clement Parish) no later than Monday, December 14 The memorials listing will be in the Dec 25-27 bulletin Thank you!

2021 PARISH CALENDARSThe 2021 parish calendars are available at the entrances of the

church We wish to extend a big Thank You to Greg and Rita Schmitz of Homeward Bound for once again supplying our calendars for our parish Thank You Greg and Rita for your generosity!!
