SAINT FRANCES OF ROME (1384-1440) March 9 Nature and human nature—plagues and wars—turned late medieval Rome into a living hell, particularly for the sick and poor. Frances, by birth and marriage well provided for, was a devoted wife and mother; but like Benedictine Oblates, who to this day “pray and work” while living with their families and working in the world, she joined like-minded laywomen friends in ministering to society’s most vulnerable. Frances’ charity was not only “hands on” but “in home.” Her palace became a hospital after the plague claimed two of her three children. When her husband’s death ended their loving marriage of forty years, Frances joined other widowed Oblates in community. In an interesting link to the United States, our nation’s premier religious congregation for women of color, the Oblate Sisters of Providence, in 1833 established bonds of spiritual communion with these Oblates of Saint Frances in Rome. CHANGE Lent is all about change and change is usually not easy. In order to change we have to leave something behind. Today we hear about a very old man who decides to answer God’s call. Abram experiences a tremendous amount of change when he leaves everything behind, risking it all for God’s promise. Jesus changes, is transfigured, right before the eyes of his disciples. The Lenten scriptures issue the call for us to change, to be transfigured, so that we, too, will soon share in the glory of God. What is it that the Lord is asking us to leave behind? Are we willing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten journey of conversion. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

5. Zadośćuczynienie Bogu i bliźnim Rachunek sumienia jest to przypomnienie sobie grzechów od ostatniej spowiedzi. Powinien on być zrobiony rzetelnie i bardzo szczegółowo. Rachunek sumienia najlepiej sobie zrobić na kartce, aby nie pominąć żadnego grzechu, bo wtedy sumiennie przystapimy do spowiedzi. Żal za grzechy jest bardzo potrzebny przed spowiedzią świętą. Po pierwsze uświadamiamy sobie jakie grzechy popełniliśmy i dlaczego jest to złem. Po drugie musimy za nie żałować z głębi serca, by nasze sumienie było czyste przed Bogiem. Mocne postanowienie poprawy jest ważnym czynnikiem spowiedzi. Dzięki niemu pokazujemy, że rozumiemy swoje grzechy i, że jesteśmy świadomi tego, by ich więcej nie popełniać. Postanowienie to powinno być zrobione szczerze w swoim sercu i umyśle. Wyznanie grzechów jest kulminacyjną czynnością podczas spowiedzi i najważniejszą. Po pierwsze przez wyznanie grzechów pozbywamy się ich ciężaru w sensie duchowym. Po drugie otwieramy się przed Bogiem, przyznając się do popełnionych win i do swojej słabości przez ktorą te grzechy popełniliśmy. Na koniec spowiedzi dostajemy pokutę od Kapłana by zadośćuczynić Bogu i bliźnim. Pokutę tą powinniśmy sumiennie wykonać, by nasza spowiedź była pełna i wykonana w całości. Dzięki wykonaniu szczegółowo pokuty nasza spowiedź jest wykonana prawidłowo i mamy pewność, że Bóg odpuścił nam nasze grzechy.

W Wielkim Poście podejmuje Kościół ciężką walkę o dusze ludzkie, o powrót łaski uświęcającej, o nowe życie z Bogiem. Kościół
pragnie "wprowadzić nas do ziemi mlekiem i miodem opływającej" (Wj 13,5), pragnie, abyśmy zmartwychwstali, tak jak
Chrystus zmartwychwstał. Ale do zmartwychwstania ducha prowadzi jedna tylko droga: przez poznanie własnej niedoli, przez wyjście z krainy śmierci, z niewoli
grzechu, przez żal doskonały, pokutę i zadośćuczynienie, przez modlitwę i świętą gorliwość w zdobywaniu cnót.

Przyjęcie Komunii św. z okazji Wielkanocy w naznaczonym terminie należy do podstawowych obowiązków katolika. SANTA FRANCISCA ROMANA (1384-1440) 9 de marzo Francisca nació en una familia cristiana donde aprendió a amar a Dios y a los pobres. Contrajo nupcias muy joven, pero jamás abandonó su deseo de servir a los pobres, labor pastoral que fue apoyada por Lorenzo, su esposo. Además de ser ejemplar esposa y madre, oraba constantemente y salía del palacio vestida con ropas humildes para ir a visitar a los enfermos y llevar alimento a los pobres. Su amor por los marginados era tan grande que cuando azotaron inundaciones y pestes no dudó en abrir su palacio para que se convirtiera en hospital y refugio de damnificados, cuidando personalmente de ellos y ofreciéndoles alimento. Este amor por los pobres lo compartió con una de sus cuñadas, con quien no sólo practicó la caridad sino compartió el sueño de ser religiosa. Siendo esposa y madre fundó la comunidad de las Oblatas de María, cuyo carisma era vivir en el hogar sirviendo a los pobres. CAMBIO Cuaresma es cambio y cambiar no es fácil. Para poder cambiar debemos dejar algo atrás. Hoy escuchamos acerca de un hombre muy viejo que decide responder al llamado de Dios. Abram atraviesa por una tremenda cantidad de cambios cuando todo lo deja y lo arriesga por la promesa de Dios. Jesús cambia, se transfigura, justo delante de los ojos de sus discípulos. Las escrituras en Cuaresma nos llaman a cambiar, a ser transfigurados, para que también nosotros pronto participemos en la gloria de Dios. ¿Qué nos pide Dios dejar atrás? ¿Estamos dispuestos a arriesgarlo todo por la promesa que Dios hace?
