SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA February 12, 2017 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts
Most of us recall a time when we did only what was
absolutely necessary to get by. When it comes to our
Christian life, however, Jesus calls us to a higher standard.
Perhaps our prayer can be for the grace and the courage to
go beyond the letter of the law in order to live according to
a higher law, the law of love.
Scripture Readings for this Week (Feb. 13-18)
Monday: Genesis 4:1-15, 25; Mark 8:11-13
Tuesday: Gn. 6:5-8; 7:1-5, 10; Mark 8:14-21
Wednesday: Gn. 8:6-13, 20-22; Mark 8:22-26
Thursday: Genesis 9:1-13; Mark 8:27-33
Friday: Genesis 11:1-9; Mark 8:34—9:1
Saturday: Hebrews 11:1-7; Mark 9:2-13
Scripture for next Sunday (7th Sunday/Ordinary)
Leviticus 19:1-2, 17-18
Love your neighbor as yourself.
1 Corinthians 3:16-23
“God catches the wise in their own ruses.”
Matthew 5:38-48
Love your enemies.
Notice in next Sunday’s readings that even though Jesus
quotes common sayings about revenge and hatred for one’s
enemies, inviting his disciples to live contrary to those
aphorisms, the first reading says exactly the same as Jesus.
“You shall not bear hatred for your brother or sister in
your heart.” What a joy to know that our God of love has
always invited us to show love for one another, and to
overcome our fear and hatred!

2017 Annual Diocesan Appeal:
Building Our Family of Faith The Annual Diocesan Appeal has changed timing from the
fall to the spring and all 145 parishes in our diocese are
once again conducting it at the same time. With an overall
goal of nearly $2.7 million, the 2017 Appeal will provide
critical funding to 19 diverse and impactful ministries that
affect the lives of thousands of people in our diocese.
Although there are similar ministries and programs
supported by both the Living Our Mission campaign and the
Annual Appeal, there is a distinct difference. The Living
Our Mission campaign was a historic first-time effort to
build major endowments and capital to support our parishes
and larger Church leading into the future. Although many
projects were realized in the short-term, the vast majority of
funds raised were designed for the future. In contrast, the
Annual Diocesan Appeal is initiated every year to meet
ministry and program needs of the present. While Living
Our Mission was an overwhelming success and set our
Church up for a strong financial future, the Annual Appeal
is still a very necessary component of meeting our goals in
the short-term. That is why we are asking for your
prayerful support of a pledge or gift to the 2017 Appeal.
During the week of February 13th, many of you will
receive a letter from Bishop DiLorenzo asking for your
support of the 2017 Annual Diocesan Appeal. It is our
sincere hope that you will answer our Bishop’s request
and make a generous pledge to this effort.
