PROFESSION OF FAITH—Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial
with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,

This weekend, we welcome twelve new young people
into the Church through the Rite of Christian
Initiation of Children and N adults confirmed into the
Church through the Rito de Inicaición Cristiana de
Adultos. Please keep them all in your prayers as they
continue the journey of faith.
Este fin de semana, damos la bienvenida a doce
nuevos jóvenes a la Iglesia a través del Rito de
Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños, junto con cuatro

FAITH FORMATION | FORMACIÓN DE FÉ
2020-2021 REGISTRATION
Beginning this Fall, Faith Formation classes will
be only on Saturdays from 10:00—11:30 am. This
two-year program focusses on sacramental
preparation including first communion,
confirmation, and full initiation (RCIA for
children).
It's now time to register your child! Do to the
pandemic we are not going to be in the corridors
this year, so make sure you stop by the parish
office to pick up registration form and secure
your child's space. Tuition is the same as last year
(2019-2020).

Dear Parishioners:
Theologians try to explain what Jesus means by the
“kingdom of God.” The phrase refers to heaven –
God’s great reign forever. Yet Jesus send messengers
to announce this kingdom is here, now. It is
described as a “kingdom of truth and life, holiness and grace, a
kingdom of justice, love, and peace.” The kingdom is here now
and still to come in fullness.
Jesus uses imagery to make is message understandable. The
farmer understands that the mustard seed is powerful; small but
with potential to be a large shrub providing shelter. So like the
kingdom, now small but powerful, it grows over time.
The kingdom of peace and truth, grace and holiness, love and
peace is here and we live in it. It calls us to be people of peace
and love, living our lives in its wisdom. We’re imperfect but
clearly headed toward perfection according to God’s plan.
Patience helps us through the difficult parts of faith living.
Perseverance means we keep going by God’s grace. The
kingdom we faintly glimpse will be fully revealed in God’s
good time.

INTENCIONES
DE LA MISA
Queridos feligreses:
Los teólogos intentan explicar lo que Jesús quiere decir con el
"reino de Dios". La frase se refiere al cielo: el gran reino de Dios
para siempre. Sin embargo, Jesús envió mensajeros para
anunciar que este reino está aquí, ahora. Se describe como un
"reino de verdad y vida, santidad y gracia, un reino de justicia,
amor y paz". El reino está aquí ahora y aún está por venir en
plenitud.
Jesús usa imágenes para hacer que su mensaje sea
comprensible. El agricultor entiende que la semilla de mostaza
es poderosa; pequeña pero con potencial para ser un gran
arbusto que proporciona refugio. Entonces, como el reino,
ahora pequeño pero poderoso, crece con el tiempo.
El reino de paz y verdad, gracia y santidad, amor y paz está
aquí y vivimos en él. Nos llama a ser personas de paz y amor,
viviendo nuestras vidas en su sabiduría. Somos imperfectos
pero claramente nos dirigimos hacia la perfección de acuerdo

OPPORTUNITY CENTER MEAL
St. Alphonsus parishioners will cook and deliver the noon meal at
Catholic Charities Opportunity Center in downtown
Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 21. Your donations of baked goods
for dessert are welcome. Please deliver them to the parish office by
2:00 pm Monday, July 20, or to the CSsR kitchen by 9:00 am
Tuesday. Monetary donations to help cover the cost of the meal
will also be accepted at the office. Thank you for your generosity.

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AT MASSES IN ENGLISH
To all our Eucharistic Ministers, thank you for being a part of this
wonderful ministry here at St. Al’s; we have not forgotten about
you! When the time is right this ministry will return. While we
wait, please take a moment to prayerfully discern whether you’d
like to continue in this ministry. If your answer is YES, please

Terri @ (763)566-7961. This will allow our roster to be updated and
ready to go when we resume this ministry — something we
greatly look forward to! Thank you!
NEWS AND UPDATES FROM FR. JOHN
Finances: I want to thank all parishioners who gave extra during
the pandemic shut down at St. Alphonsus. Some gave sizable gifts
to the parish and even gave their stimulus money which helped
us. We ended the year with about $90,000 less in weekly
contributions. About $60,000 was projected; COVID added the
balance. As we go forward, we need to approach this shortfall
comprehensively: increasing Sunday contributions, major gifts,
promotion, and increased fundraising by the school, as well as
budget cuts are needed.
Redemptorist Community: Fr. Greg Wiest, CSsR will join the
Redemptorist community at St. Al’s on July 20. Fr. Greg was appointed
local superior at New Orleans and then was asked recently to administer
the Desert House of Prayer in Tucson. Since this retreat ministry is being
re-evaluated, Fr. Greg was asked to come to Minneapolis as part of the
Redemptorist presence in the Archdiocese. The provincial council asked
Fr. Greg to explore the opportunities for outreach to the LGBTQIA+
community. He’ll find what ministries the Archdiocese offers and seek
ways the Redemptorists can provide spiritual care to our siblings.

Finanzas: Quiero agradecer a todos los feligreses que dieron más
durante la clausura de la pandemia en San Alfonso. Algunos
dieron regalos considerables a la parroquia e incluso dieron su
dinero de estímulo que nos ayudó. Terminamos el año
aproximadamente $90,000 menos en contribuciones semanales. Se
proyectaron alrededor de $ 60,000; y el Coronavirus agregó al
saldo. Compartiré con ustedes un breve estado financiero que los
pondrá al día y compartiré los planes en el futuro. Necesitamos
abordar esto de manera integral: incrementando las
contribuciones dominicales, donaciones importantes, promoción
y aumento de la recaudación de fondos por parte de la escuela, y
recortes presupuestarios.
Se unirá a la comunidad Redentorista el Padre Greg Wiest, CSsR
a San Alfonso el 20 de julio. P. Greg fue nombrado superior local
en Nueva Orleans y luego se le pidió recientemente que
administrara la Casa de Oración del Desierto en Tucson. Dado
que este ministerio de retiro está siendo reevaluado, se le pidió al
P. Greg que viniera a Minneapolis a formar parte de la presencia
de los Redentorista en la Arquidiócesis. El consejo provincial le
pidió al P. Greg que explorará las oportunidades para llegar a la
comunidad LGBTQIA+. Encontrará qué ministerios ofrece la
Arquidiócesis y buscará formas en que los Redentoristas puedan
brindar cuidado espiritual a nuestros hermanos y hermanas.
