4 Troubleshooting

4.1 Introduction

This chapter contains troubleshooting hints for SafeCom Go Kyocera. Additional troubleshooting hints are available in the Troubleshooting chapter in SafeCom G4 Administrator’s Manual D60650.

4.2 SafeCom Help Desk Assistant

We want your SafeCom solution to be one that reduces not only print costs, but is also easy to support. In the following you will find useful troubleshoot hints. The most common problems reported by end-users have been compiled into an online SafeCom Help Desk Assistant available at safecom.eu/help

4.3 At the printer: Login service not available

This message is displayed when communication is lost to the SafeCom server. Check the following:

If you experience problems after consecutive loads of the SafeCom Go Kyocera software to a Kyocera device then power cycle the Kyocera device.

Does the Configuration (2.3.1) reference a SafeCom server and is the IP address and Group name correct?

Is the SafeCom Service running on the SafeCom server?

Is the network down?

Is there a firewall blocking communication?

Is the printer connected to the network? The message is cleared and the device returns to normal operation by itself a couple of minutes after communication has been restored.

4.4 At the printer: User unknown

The used card (or entered ID code) is unknown.

4.5 At the printer: Login denied

Wrong PIN code.

The device is not registered.

Too many consecutive failed login attempts has caused Prevent login to be checked on the Identification tab in the User properties dialog.

If none of the above could be because Windows on the SafeCom server does not allow any more connections. If you also see the message “Connection error. Login failed” when you try to login to SafeCom Administrator, then restart the computer.

4.12 Tracking information

The format of the tracking data is documented in SafeCom G4 Administrator’s Manual D60650. If an attempt is made to disconnect or otherwise tamper with the device to avoid tracking, then jobs are recorded with an “Interrupted” tracking state instead of “Completed.” “Canceled” documents are also tracked as “Interrupted.” If Post Track is enabled, the tracking record for print jobs is adjusted to reflect what was actually printed. However, if the job is interrupted the tracking record is not adjusted and will reflect the tracking data that was determined when the documented was processed in the print queue.

4.13 Tracking of blank pages

Kyocera devices can be configured to either print or not print blank pages. In order to get correct tracking data we highly recommend that the Kyocera device print blank pages. The blank page is tracked as one mono impression and one sheet. If the blank page is printed on duplex, only one mono impression and one sheet is tracked.
