CELEBRITYTIDBITSRadcliffe feels dating Harry Potter fan would be horrible and strange

Daniel Radcliffe has revealed that he does not want to be in a relationship with someone who is a Harry Potter buff.

The 24-year-old actor said that dating a girl who is a fan of the fantasy novel series writ-ten by J.K. Rowling, would be a “horrible and strange move”, the Daily Express reported.

According to OK Magazine, Radcliff also revealed that he has not remained close with his co-star Emma Watson since completing the final film in 2011, but he is hopeful that they will come together again someday.

The ‘Kill Your Darlings’ star has previously been linked to Erin Darke and production assis-tant Rosie Coker.

Actor Matthew McConaughey apparently didn’t enjoy working with his co-star Anne Hathaway in “Interstellar.”

According to sources, the duo play astronaut lovers in the sci-fi film, but the actor wasn’t pleased teaming up with Hathaway, reports showbizspy.com.

“They were like oil and water. Anne drove Matthew crazy by constantly asking director Christopher Nolan questions about space travel and life on other planets,” said a source.

“One day, Matt got so fed up that he screamed at her saying: ‘We don’t have to be real scientists to play these parts, Anne!’,” said another source.

The source continued: “He often referred to her as ‘nerd girl’ and ‘Little Alien Annie’ behind her back. He also had his body double shoot his scenes with her whenever possible.”

Hathaway isn’t McConaughey’s favourite co-star

James Cameron in USD 1 billion lawsuit over 'Titanic 3D'A woman, who claims that director James Cameron and studio executives at 20th Century Fox/Paramount Pictures hijacked her idea to make the April 2012 release “Titanic 3D”, has reportedly sued them for $1 billion.

Faan Qin’s lawsuit contends that Cameron and his partners copied her idea “R.M.S. Titanic - The Experience”, reports tmz.com. Faan said the moviemakers hijacked her idea for a 3D ride that recreates the experience of the cruise that crashed into an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. Faan claims Cameron’s 3D movie has made more than $343 million, but she wants three times that to teach the Hollywood titan a lesson, reports the website.

Cameron’s movie on the real life incident released in 1997. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, it was a major success.

When asked if Mirren secretly practices in front of a mirror, she replied saying that she might have. Earlier in 2013, when Mirren was being honoured with Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding award, she bent over and shook her butt for the crowd.

Hudgens might be still in shock, but she was excited ahead of her friend’s bachelorette party recently in Miami, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The “High School Musical” star was excited before jetting to Florida.

She said: “Ashley’s bachelorette party will be my first one. It’s so exciting. And it›s so crazy because I just think of us as having fun and being silly and the fact that she is getting married, my mind is kind of exploding.”

Elizabeth Olsen didn’t want to become an actress.Actress Elizabeth Olsen almost dropped acting career after she saw how fame changed her sisters and actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen›s lives.

The “Godzilla” star was initially reluctant to carve out a career in Hollywood because she found her older twin sisters’ level of fame overwhelming, reports contactmusic.com.

“Seeing what happened with my sisters always being followed around made me question whether this was what I wanted to do with my life. But it was always my choice,” said Olsen.

“I was lucky to have an amazing drama teacher who encouraged me to pursue my dream. I love acting so much that I decided the trade-off would be worth it,” added the 25-year-old.

Olsen was nervous before filming director Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla.” “I was nervous, but I realised that making a movie was the same whatever the budget. There was

this group banded together doing scenes,”she said.

When Charlize Theron hit ‘rock bottom’

Actress Charlize Theron says she reached “rock bottom” in her early 30s and wasn›t aware that she required therapy.

Later the 38-year-old found the regular sessions useful, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“I didn’t know that I needed therapy. I was walking through life just kind of thinking everything was fine - you go and you work and there’s this catharsis that happens when you are an actor, and that›s healthy, right?

“(In my early 30s, I was) kind of at rock bottom. I called a friend and said, ‘Will you give me the number of your therapist?’ And I started seeing an incredible woman who is always just a phone call away,” she said.

Iranian actress’s Cannes kiss sparks ire back homeIranian actress Leila Hatami on Sunday angered authorities in Tehran by kissing on the cheek, an act seen as affront to the “chastity” of the Islamic republic›s women.

A picture carried by Iranian media shows Hatami kissing Gilles Jacob at the opening of this year’s festival.

“Those who attend intentional events should take heed of the credibility and chastity of Iranians, so that a bad image of Iranian women will not be demonstrated to the world,” Deputy Culture Minister Hossein Noushabadi said. “Iranian woman is the symbol of chastity and innocence.” Hatami’s “inappropriate presence” at the festival was “not in line with our religious beliefs”, he added.

Born into a family with a background in cinema, Hatami gained worldwide fame for her role in Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Separation,’ which won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

According to Iran’s interpretation of Islamic law, in place since 1979, a woman is not allowed to have physical contact with a man outside her family.

Bradley Cooper mocked by Clint Eastwood

Actor Bradley Cooper was reportedly mocked by actor-director Clint Eastwood on the sets of “American Sniper.”

Eastwood referred to Cooper as “Her Highness” and “The Duchess”, since the actor spends too much time in the make-up chair, reports showbizspy.com.

“It started because Clint thinks Cooper takes too damn long in the makeup chair,” said a source. “And lately, whenever he needs Bradley and costar Sienna Miller, he yells-’Are the girls ready›? Clint’s rightly proud of his reputation for getting most scenes in just one take - but when action sequences with mud-crawling and fence climbing involving Cooper require retakes, Clint jeers, “Are you ladies ready to try that again?”

“Even though the pet names are hilarious, Bradley can’t stand it but it’s Clint Eastwood - so he keeps his mouth shut and does what he’s told,” added the source.

Oscar-winning director Malik Bendjelloul deadDirector Malik Bendjelloul, who won an Academy-Award for the documentary “Searching For Sugar Man,” has died. He was 36.

Benjelloul was born and raised in his home nation and began a career in the film and television industry at a young age. He was seen in Swedish TV-series “Ebba and Didrik” as a child actor in the 1990s.

Bendjelloul decided to resign and decided to travel the world. It was on one of these trips when he got the idea for «Searching for Sugar Man».

James Franco refuses to be part of ‘Spring Breakers’ movie sequel

James Franco revealed that he will not work in ‘Spring Breakers’ movie sequel. The ‘127 hours’ star took to Instagram to reveal that he and director Harmony Korine have nothing to do with the project because the producers are capitalizing on the original and creative film just to make money on a weak sequel, Contactmusic reported.

Franco added that making a sequel would be a terrible idea just like nobody can imagine making a sequel to ‘Taxi Driver’ without Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro’s consents.

What did you study? My background is in visual communicationor what many people call Graphic design. I began in Beirut and then graduatedfrom Arlington Virginia in USA.When did you join the family business? How does it feel being the youngest CEO in town? After I came back, I joined the family business and started as business development manager, handling marketing and branding initially but I realized that there was a lot more than just that to work on. That’s when I started working with themanagement on restructuring the business. The business was treated as one big giantand there was no proper segmentation. Webroke it down to four different segments andeach one had its own manager. Afterabout two years of handling the company, Iwas asked by the board of directors to takethe post of CEO of the company. I was quiteoverwhelmed by that and the first thoughtthat crossed my mind was that I don’t havean MBA. But the management saw mypassion and encouraged me to take the post.I wanted to further bolster my grandfather’slegacy with the business and I found a wayto work on enhancing what the businessalready had. What advice do you have for aspiring creative entrepreneurs in Bahrain?A lot of people ask me how stressful it is torun my own thing but stress is an integralpart of any business. Yes, it’s a very rockyroad and there are many ups and downs. You might even feel like giving up at timesbut if you really believe in what you wantto do and achieve you need to havea rock-solid will. Being an entrepreneurexposes you to a whole new dimension ofexperiences, those which you might notexperience through a regular desk job. Timemanagement is necessary as well.Besides running Yaquby Stores, weunderstand that you have your own creativeagency, ‘Quby’ and your are a partner in a décor store ‘Y Maison.’ Tell us more about that.that.Whilst working with the business, I yearned to do something related to design because it was what I studied. I think there is a very big gap in the market for quality design.

TQuby came into existence 3 years agoand most of the work came though Tamkeenor the entrepreneurs who were new in themarket. We love establishing brands and70% of our work involves branding. We havea strong belief in sustainable design. Wedid the branding for Annada scarves, VillaMamas, Cake Boutique and Sayyar trading to name a few. Branding is our core focus at Quby, however we do work on handling marketing campaigns, social media and web-development for clients as well.I am also a partner in Y Maison forfurniture and décor, which is run by my sister, two cousins, and myself. Y Maison goes hand in hand with Quby, so if we get any branding work for restaurants or cafes, Y Maison does the interior and fit-outs. This has received great acclaim. Y Maison also works on party, and event planningwhich has been very successful. You are also an avid sustainability enthusiast. Tell me more about the organic fair-trade toys line ‘Mush’ you started.

I believe in giving back to the community asmuch as possible because if you don’t giveback, you can’t be a part of the community.I have a love for all things organic, especially stuff like stationery and toys.I went to Sri Lanka two years ago for aholiday and managed to get in touch withsuppliers who worked with underprivilegedwomen in villages to produce fair tradeorganic cotton toys. That’s how I developedMush. Nowadays children’s toys tend tobe laced with lead and nasty plastic butMush is 100 percent organic. Mush’s tag

The fact that every toy we sell helps in improving lives for underprivileged women is an amazing feeling! What do you do to unwind after a long day? I have a personal trainer who I train with one hour every day, and even if it’s late in the evening, I try to pan out because it really helps me de-stress. Multi-platinum award winning Rhythm and Blues artist Craig David took hundreds of fans in Bahrain on a soulful reminiscence of his music at Klub 360 in April where he played his DJ set, titled TS5. TS5 began in the comforts of Craig David’s own home in Miami where he hosted weekly house parties, which he then chose to share with the world via soundcloud. This led to Craig being flown across the world to host one off TS5 events and bringing the intimate feel of his DJ sets from his Miami home to clubs in Geneva, Italy, Bahrain, Sardinia and many more including the world renown Billionaire Club in Monaco.

In 2000, Craig became the world’s youngest British male solo artist to have his debut single ‘Fill me In’ peak at number one on the UK Singles Chart, propelling his career into stardom.

Puja Tiwari caught up with him to get the inside scoop of his career, upcoming plans and his journey in the music industry.

All the ladies in town are crazy about you. What message do you have for the ladies in Bahrain? It’s always very flattering to hear that because there will be a day where there won’t be a hunk, so right now I’m going to take it and embrace it. A lot of times people still expect me to look like I did on the cover of ‘Born to do it’ and expect that guy to walk through the room. You’ll not necessarily see that 17-year old kid but you’ll see a version of him that still holds up. I would like to thank everyone for the love and support.

A career is not necessarily being on top of the charts or how many records you’ve sold, rather it’s all about being consistent in making music and finding new ways to showcase that aspect.

What would you be doing if you were not a musician? I think DJ’ing would probably be something that I would immerse myself into. DJ’ing is the ability to play other people’s music but still sing and perform. I write songs and try to write for other people, I find that quite difficult because I want to keep them all to myself. Maybe at some point that would switch and I might be able to fall back and let someone else sing my song.

What’s coming up next in terms of your career?I’m working on a new album at the moment titled ‘Following My Intuition’ which is set for release in 2014. I also love working and travelling with TS5. The industry is changing so fast and I’m just trying to bring back a blend of simple melodies and lyrics.

You’ve been in the music industry for many years. How has the learning curve been?I’ve made a transitional growth from being a boy to a man in the music industry. That was a learning curve. I’m 32 years old now, but I still have the hunger and passion to write songs and make music like I did in when I was younger.

When you first start off, it’s all about being on top of the charts and taking the number one spot. You want to be competition, to be the best at what you do. Then you realize that there is no competition, and music is a beautiful thing which is subject to how you want it to be. It’s not about the number of followers you have on social media either, a conscious effort should be made to put your music out there instead of worrying about how many people ‘like’ you on social media.

How did you get into the hospitality industry? Tell us about your journey so far.I’ve been in the service industry for 19 years now and have been in managerial positions since my late teenage years within the leisure and hospitality sector . My first managerial position was as an outdoor education instructor which involved teaching activities like climbing, Kayaking and other extreme sports. After that I moved across the leisure and hospitality sector working in holiday venues, theme parks, leisure venues and eventually ending up in restaurants where my passion lies. My first full service restaurant as manager was the popular Chiquitos brand where I managed their flagship store, located within Cheshire UK. I progressed very quickly with this restaurant group becoming a national training store and then moving to Area manager within the first two years.

I’m not a what you would call a corporate person, I’m a bit rebellious I find a corporate environment somewhat stifling at times and so despite my success decided to venture out on my own where my creativity could be put to better use.

I started consulting for restaurants and hotels, setting up some hefty names in fine and casual dining in the UK where I developed brands, designed marketing strategies and opened venues. Unfortunately the economic recession hit and companies no longer had the funds to hire consultants.

I did some research and it was evident the dining scene in the Middle East was booming so I packed my bags and headed to Qatar where I stayed for over three years as an operations manager for a large Qatari restaurant operator. How did you end up in Bahrain?Well, my real forte is concept development so when I heard about the position here with Bahrain Family Leisure it piqued my interest. To take an idea and bring it to fruition is very exciting for me.How did you further conceptualize Cucina Italiana once you started with BFLC?Cucina Italiana may have been someone else’s idea but I’ve polished every element of the concept particularly the hospitality and service.

When I arrived I found the food and ambience very good but the service was conventionally robotic. Guests enjoy a full-fledged experience with us now. Great food, ambience and a style of hospitable service that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the Kingdom.

That’s what I worked on: developing our people to offer a personal connection between them and each guest.

The hospitality is what really impacts any guest experience and overall impression of a venue. I think we’ve been noticed clearly on this stage with winning awards for our restaurants and I personally think we’ve got a fantastic foundation for a strong branded concept.

Tell me about the new restaurant Bayti?Bayti is located is on the highway near the Financial Harbor and is our newest home grown brand which is due to open at the start of June.

It will be a Middle Eastern contemporary restaurant bringing guests dishes from across the region including, of course some Bahraini dishes. We did a lot of research into the history of the cuisines and came up with many exciting dishes.

We are evolving shawarma , bringing it to the next level . What we are calling Gourmet Shawarma! You will have to also come try our Chocolate Shawarma, not something you will find elsewhere. We will operate for Breakfast, Lunch and in the evening and hope to attract a wide demographic guest base ranging from traditional Arab diners to expats and tourists alike.

This along with some other unique selling points will surely make us a destination restaurant. We are a chef driven concept and as such the majority of our menu is freshly produced in-house. We are proud that sauces, dips, breads and foods will be made from scratch by our team and you will taste the difference.

The décor will be modern and fresh with a retro classic elegance. Dining will be an experience in itself, not just a transaction between the restaurant and the customer. What do you think of the restaurant scene in Bahrain? Some people say that the market

for restaurants is saturated but I don’t think that’s true. There will always be trendy new places that become the talk of the town. I’ve been to some beautiful restaurants here with great food but the element of hospitality was amiss and I ended up with a mediocre experience. What I appreciate is when the restaurant clearly takes the time to make a personal connection with its customers. These venues are rare and I hope we will be adding to that small number with Bayti. What are your future plans with this company? We are definitely looking at expanding and opening more restaurants for sure. We have plans in the pipeline to franchise Cucina Italiana to countries like Saudi, Qatar,Greece and India. We’re looking into adding more home grown concepts as well as expanding our contract catering operation Kazbah. I know we may never be the biggest dining company and that’s not our intention either, but we have already proved that we can compete with such large operators. We’d rather be the premier operator than the biggest one. What are your hobbies?I love water sports and I’m a geek so I’m into Sci Fi and the like. What do you do to relax after a long day?I read a good book, watch some Sci Fi or cook myself a meal from my many cook books or work on my first book which I am currently writing about restaurant training methodology.

nicole KidmanNicole Kidman looks breathtakingly beautiful in this exquisite Armani gown, studded with crystals that gave off a very royal vibe. I love her ensemble, the beautiful Harry Winston jewels and the Grecian side swept low pony to complete her look.

Zhang Ziyi While I love the top half

of this futuristic Stephane Rolland dress on Zhang

Ziyi, I’m not very fond of the burst of ruffles at the side of her hip. Ignoring

the puffy detailing there, I quite like the dress.

It’s really edgy and the Chopard jewels and

Bochic clutch look great paired together.

Karlie KlossWhy is Karlie Kloss being let to walk on the red carpet like this? Valentino or not, this looks like a lace tablecloth from the Victorian era draped on her right before she stepped out. Some things should be left to serve its purpose, no Karlie? If only...Nope, can’t really save her on this one. As if the sheer tacky detailing wasn’t enough, it had to be a tri-color gown!

emma WatsonEmma Watson never ceases to amaze me with her

style. Her simple yet chic look here is definitely hot at the moment.I love the fall of the Ralph

Lauren skirt paired with a crisp white shirt and skinny belt. The boxed Roger Vivier clutch is drool worthy and can we just take a moment to awe at

the perfect shade of oxblood staining her lips?

JenniFer laWrenceI love the old Hollywood glamour look on Jennifer but this velvet Jason Wu strappy dress adds onto Jen’s waistline slightly. Nevertheless, she looks classy and every bit a diva. Anna Kouri jewels, a Kotur clutch and a sleek hairdo completed her look.

lea michelleI love this emerald green Japanese- inspired mini dress Lea Michelle wore by Blumarine. The clean silk satin fabric is gorgeous and so are the japanese motifs on the panels of the skirt. She accessorized with rose gold Schutz heels and a delicate single strap body chain.

New York, NY - Summer 2014 is a season of effortless wearability, with sheer fabrics, playful prints and laid-back silhouettes to travel with the a+o girl from Summer into Fall.

Dusty, romantic cream, taupe and light pink are matched with classic black + white and bright prints, juxtaposing a casual and romantic feel. Artistic influences are important to the collection, as seen in painterly graphic + watercolour prints on jackets, pants, and dresses.

Relaxed silhouettes are key this season, with RTW including tunic-length tops that can be worn as dresses or layered over pants, soft knits and trapeze dresses. Metallic brocade, embroidered lace, fringe and beading make for party-ready summer statement pieces.

Hollywood Grace

JUNE 2014 29

Ingie Chalhoub’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection pays homage to the glamorous life of Princess Grace Kelly. An icon of flawless beauty and creative talent, she became Hollywood

royalty–from the ultimate Hitchcock blond to the reigning Princess of Monaco.

Channelling the Grace Kelly look,Ingie’s Autumn/ Winter collection is set in the ambiance of the cinematic 50’s. The majestic starlet is photographed behind the scenes where we get glimpses of her performing in a montage of elegant outfits. Ingie dresses her ice-blonde in a toned down colour palette that echoes the mystery and graphic motion of a black and white film. Immersed in Hitchcock Technicolors he alternates with

unexpected flashes of colour that captivate her audience. Hues of cardinal violet and crimson red are mixed with eye-popping turquoise and gold, highlighting the visual impact of the bold collection.

On set and seated in a chair, the starlet goes over her script wearing a black and white sophisticated knit wear ensemble of polka dot velvet chenille. Disguised in a black tweed coat with beautiful gold leaf detailing she seems to be rehearsing the rolling scene from ‘To Catch a Thief .’ With a wrapped leopard silk scarf around her head she becomes perfectly unrecognisable and is ready for action. Sporting a shimmering copper-sequined flower dress she is commanded to strike a pose impersonating

‘Vertigo.’. Its knotted slits on the her back unveil her sensuality and foxy demeanour.

Hazed in clouds and mist of smoke, Hollywood’s golden girl flaunts her creative poise in a series of exhuberant chic appearances. Ingie’s take on pure cinema hopes to transport the viewer into a grandiose era of retro glamour. We are enticed by her charmful universe. Showing her regal side, she wears a midnight blue velvet dress with black lace sleeves reminiscent of Kelly’s sophisticated look in High Society. In a black silk cape dress she stands dramatic, adorned in precious stones and diamonds she makes all heads turn. You can almost hear Frank Sinatra serenading her with ‘You’re Sensational.’

Although Kors is best known for his neutrals, he experiments with stripes, bold checks in a flavorful palette of black, white, ice, fawn and scarlett and change comes easily with foulards and paisleys. A few seasons ago it was the trench coat but this Transeason 2014 Collection gives us slouchy jackets and coats. Trousers have a very relaxed fit worn with luxe cardigans and pullovers.

Montblanc MeisterstuckCollectionMontblanc’s Meisterstuck products have their origins in the centuries-old tradition of European craftsmanship. In Europe, the Meisterstuck, or masterpiece, is the final and most difficult challenge a young craftsman faces, the task which decides his future, and brings to an end the long hard years as an apprentice.

The future master pours all his skills and ambitions into this piece of work, which must meet the highest standards to earn the name ‘masterpiece.’ It is only once this level of artistry has been achieved, that he earns the honorable title of ‘Master Craftsman.’

Each and every Montblanc product is handcrafted by Master Craftsmen who take infinite pride in their work. The effect is that each Montblanc product is a unique expression of individuality and holds the emotions of its creator. In short, each Montblanc design has a soul.

After a colossal response of more than 400 entries to our ‘Makeover with Na-talie’ competition, Beverley West was picked as the lucky winner of the beauty makeover and Gloria D’souza won a professional makeup class.

We treated Beverley to a lush hair and makeup revamp, courtesy of talented MUA Natalie Semaan.

Beverley throughly enjoyed the experience and said: “When I first saw an opportunity to be treated to a make-over, I grabbed it with both hands! I was absolutely delighted when I heard I was the winner!

First was Rana giving me advice on my hair, suggesting different styles and

layouts. I was reluctant to change too much, so I opt for a simple neat cut and agreed to do what Rana suggested. I was pleased with the outcome.

Natalie is a genius when it comes to makeup, she has all the tools and hundreds of brushes! She continued to amaze me with tips and various ap-plications. We both decided on a look enhancing my eyes and keeping the lips soft. Rana and Natalie has done an amazing transformation with me as my husband said that I didn’t only look ‘good, but AMAZING and AWESOME’. So thank you for giving me this chance of feeling like a princess for a day!

I want to conclude using a quote from

Sophie Loren: “Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.” All women has that inner beauty, some are cocooned inside us, but when we release it, it will flutter like a butterfly, making us feel like we living life!”

Gloria expressed her delight on being able to learn valuable makeup lessons from Natalie, who gave her a tutorial and various tips on looking beautiful effortlessly. “I really enjoyed the class, it was a great experience and I would defi-nitely recommend Natalie’s expertise to my friends and family,” she added.

In 2004 the City of Ghent won the International ‘City.People.Light’ award for this lighting plan. The Michelin guide awarded it three stars.4. Huis van AlijnThe House of the Alijn family is a typical Flemish béguinage (almshouse) that now contains a beautiful heritage museum that chronicles life in Ghent and East Flanders at the turn of the 20th century.5. Museum Voor VormgevingThe Design Museum of Ghent, or Museum Voor Vormgeving, is a study in fabulous contrast. Brilliant 18th century architecture holds objects, furniture and art that span styles from Art Nouveau and Renaissance, to Art Deco and contemporary. Of particular note are works by Victor Horta and Le Corbusier.6. Belfry of GhentPart of a UNESCO World Heritage inscription that includes bell towers across Belgium and parts of France, the grand Belfry of Ghent soars over the old medieval city. The late 14th century tower, much like the bell towers of nearby Saint Bavo

This vibrant, photogenic city of 250,000 people has a history of human settlement that spans the Stone Age, Iron Age, Celts, Roman Empire, Franks and

Old Dutch. Remarkably, the city was one of the most populous in the late Middle Ages. In fact, as far back as the 11th century, economic and commercial powerhouse Ghent had more people than every city on the continent, save for Paris.

The relevance for contemporary tourists to East Flanders of course, is a phenomenal legacy of art, culture and architecture. Ghent is a complete city in this regard, with UNESCO World Heritage landmarks, world class museums, grand cathedrals and perhaps best of all, a dynamic festival and culinary scene. Indeed, inhabitants of this nonchalant and cosmopolitan university city have a lot to brag about.

Let’s take you through the top 10 must-visits of Ghent.1. GravensteenThe Gravensteen, or Castle of the Count, is a rare 12th century medieval gem. Visitors can access the fortress castle’s lofty ramparts and innermost sanctum. The museum of medieval torture devices is a special treat.2. Museum of Fine ArtsThe Museum voor Schone Kunsten, or Museum of Fine Arts, is a notable source of pride in Ghent. The permanent collection of mostly Flemish and French art from the medieval era to the 20th century is superb.3. Ghent by lightWhen the sun sets, the city lights up again. The Ghent lighting plan kicks in as thousands of lights are switched on. It’s not a mishmash of styles, but a carefully

Gentse FeestenThe massive Gentse Feesten (Ghent Festival) is many festivals in one. Held over ten days in late July since 1843, attendance figures now regularly top the 2 million mark. Inherent festivals within Gentse Feesten include Gent Jazz, the International Puppetbuskerfestival, International Street Theater Festival and 10 Days Off electronic music festival.9. the Patershol Quarter Patershol is the medieval heart of the city. The Friary of the Calced Carmelites, dating back to 1329, was fully restored at the end of the last century and reopened as an exhibion space. Thirty years ago, you could buy a little house here for next to nothing. Today, the Patershol is one of the city’s most desirable neighbourhoods. For good dining, you can choose from one of the many restaurants which have sprung up in the medieval alleys. From Japanese to Thai, to delicious traditional Flemish cooking, you’ll find everything here. 10. city Museum for contemporary ArtThe City Museum for Contemporary Art in Ghent is much more famous across Europe by the funky acronym S.M.A.K. Indeed, the excellent Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst is one of the paramount champions of modern art in the world and since 1999, has been the most popular point of interest in the city.

Alienware 17

digital Storm Vanquish ii

Does Radeon do a gaming laptop good?

This mid-powered gaming PC is ready to play

The 17-inch laptop is a unicorn these days. But in the gaming world, the arguably huge form factor is alive and well. Alienware has doubled down on its colossal clamshell, simply known as the Alienware 17, with an AMD-powered variant.

With an AMD Radeon HD R9 M290X pushing the pixels behind its 1920 x 1080 anti-glare screen, this version of Dell-owned Alienware notebook comes in $350 cheaper than its Nvidia-toting counterpart. Given that AMD’s latest mobile GPU houses twice as much video RAM – 4GB to the GeForce GTX 860M’s 2GB – that’s not a bad deal at all.

Aside from that, nothing about the Alienware 17 has changed, including its gigantic frame. Both the MSI GS70 Stealth and Asus G750JX are thinner and cheaper, but fall on different ends of the spectrum in terms of hardware, design and overall focus.

If you’re familiar with Alienware’s latest design ID, then none of this will be a shock. But for those coming from the Alienware M17x 2012 perhaps,

The PC gaming crowd can be tough to please. They want a high-resolution gaming machine that runs at 60-plus frames per second – but it can’t be a one-trick pony, either. Every component needs to be upgradeable and be available on store shelves. Oh, and if it’s built by someone else, it better be almost as affordable as building it yourself.

It’s quite the list of demands. You can imagine my surprise, then, when

Digital Storm’s latest Vanquish II gaming PC scribbled a checkmark next to each and every requirement in the book.

You wouldn’t know it by the unsuspecting, jet black case – no green neon paint or gaudy, haphazard, LED light show here – but underneath the hood of the Digital Storm’s latest Vanquish II beats the heart of a wallet-friendly gaming PC. That is, under the cool hue of a steady blue light.

That starts with the 4th gen Intel Core i5

processor that works as the brains behind the brawn, while 8GB of Digital Storm-certified memory and a GeForce GTX 770 graphics card deliver the power needed to play this year’s biggest and best games. The included storage options in the model sent to TechRadar – a 120GB SSD and a 1TB, 7200 rpm hard drive – are a good start, but will fill up fast. Thankfully, the included power supply supports an additional SSD and two extra spinning drives, giving you enough expandability for years to come.

Aesthetically, there’s a lot to love about the Vanquish II. The Corsair Graphite Series Black 230T case is simple, unimposing and should go with whatever décor surrounds it. For a standard desktop, it’s average size – neither too big for a local LAN, nor so small that it strays into mini-ITX territory. The unit measures 21.65 x 8.27 x 17.32 inches (W x D x H) and weighs in at 15 pounds, so not all that light, either. What’s most lovable about this case is that it has room to grow, with seven expansion slots and three optical drive bays for a Blu-ray or secondary DVD drives.

VerdictThis is a value-priced gaming PC, and the performance suggests as much. The components can handle most intense tasks without suffering from severe slow-down, and most games on medium settings will play buttery-smooth.

Battle-hardened PC builders could easily create a box with better specs for less than the $1,259 ticket for entry, but what about gamers that don’t know their way around a chassis? Throw in a four-year warranty and lifetime technical support, and the Vanquish II becomes one mid-range boutique gaming PC to beat.

Techno Talk

plenty has changed. The pronounced curvature of the old has given in to a more angular silhouette throughout. Not only did that make more custom lighting zones a possibility, but it allowed for an all-aluminum lid and magnesium alloy base. This grants the Alienware 17 an even more premium look and feel than before.

VerdictSave for some nagging (but ultimately fixable) problems, the Alienware 17 is one of the best

gaming laptops money can buy. From its sharp metallic and soft-touch build to a host of powerful components, this is a one-stop shop for getting into PC gaming with a single click.

Given that a 17.3-inch laptop, gaming or not, is a terribly niche product, consider every path before paying over two grand for the toll. Regardless, it’s undeniable that this is the best-built mobile gaming PC around. If the fast lane to high quality PC gaming is what you seek, then the Alienware 17 will not steer you wrong.

EE takes another Huawei device and puts its stamp on it

ee eagle

The EE Eagle is a tablet that you›ve already seen. For those of you with a good memory you›ll instantly recognise it as the Huawei MediaPad M1.

There’s no hiding the fact that the 4G-enabled Eagle is basically a carbon copy of Huawei’s 8-inch slate which EE is hoping can tempt people away from the iPad mini.

You’ll find an 8-inch screen and dual-speakers on the front and a 5MP snapper on the rear, while under the hood the Eagle comes with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and CAT 4 LTE support allowing you to take advantage of EE’s double speed network.

Unfortunately the EE Eagle comes running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, a rather old version of Google’s platform, and the network was unable to confirm anything on a potential KitKat upgrade.

The familiar looking, front-facing speaker grilles are laid out in the same fashion as the Taiwanese smartphone, while round the back the metal-effect plastic rear with white bumpers above and below makes for a striking resemblance to the LG G Pad 8.3. The EE Eagle doesn›t feel overly premium - where the G Pad 8.3 and iPad mini have metal bodies this tablet is completely plastic. That›s hardly a surprise considering the price, but it›s not that heavy and I was able to hold it relatively comfortably in one hand.

The screen on the EE Eagle is acceptable at 800 x 1280, and it is on a par with the original iPad Mini, but it doesn›t come close to the iPad Mini 2 or G Pad in terms of detail or brightness, with colours appearing washed out.

early VerdictIf you›re desperate for a 4G-enabled tablet, but don›t have a huge amount to spend, the EE Eagle is a solid choice.

That said, if you›re not fussed about a web connection on the go then the Wi-Fi-only LG G Pad 8.3 is the same price and boasts a far better screen, more power and the latest version of Android.

Get ready for 360-degree selfies

360cam

A lot of people like GoPros. And with good reason, they’re rugged, all-terrain video cameras that capture everything from big air jumps to underwater adventures, all without an ounce of screen tearing.

There’s one major problem with the GoPro: You can only see what’s in front of the camera. You’re out of luck if you want to see your face at the same time you’re shredding down the slope – well, unless you buy TWO GoPros.

But say you want to not only see yourself, but your buddy who’s taking point on your right flank? OK, that’s three GoPros. And don’t forget to factor in the extra hours you’ll need to put in after you’ve finished recording to sync all three videos.

The first feature that was hashed out for me was the burst picture mode – a way to set the internal clock to take one photo every interval. This could mean setting it up in nature, setting the timer for one photo every minute, and

leaving it for 24 hours (the 360 cam’s expected battery life), or using it as a way to snap 360-degree selfies.

You’ll never have to worry about extra room, either. The 360cam sports a standard SD card slot inside the waterproof case meaning the same 32GB card you use in your DSLR will work here, and that’s a very good thing. And, thanks to the built-in wifi adapter, you’ll be able to look at the photos as soon you take them.

early VerdictStarting at $249, the 360cam is properly

positioned to compete with GoPro. Its app has an untold amount of utility and, so long as the general public adopts it, could become the next Instagram of viewing 360-degree images and videos. It’s innovative in a way that many of the big leaders in photography are not, but without the financial backing and definite retail support the 360cam could pitter out without a fight.

INTRODUCTIONIn case you haven’t noticed, JLR is in the midst of a bit of a renaissance at the moment. Tata’s generous cash flow and willingness to let the brand’s British engineers do what they do best with minimal interference at the top have meant record sales and an onslaught of exciting new models. The Sport is, like its predecessor that came out in 2005, a smaller, less expensive, more performance-oriented version of the Range Rover aimed at younger, and slightly less millionaire-ish buyers. But while the old Sport was based on the old Discovery/LR3, this new one is adapted from its all-new big brother. A proper Range Rover, then, or playing second fiddle to the best? Let’s find out!

Supercharged – Power, Supremacy & Dynamism

OUR 6 POINT REVIEW

1. EXTERIORSThe design inspiration taken from the regular Range Rover can be seen in the new Sport›s tapering roof line. Then there’s the distinctive clamshell bonnet and small light clusters on either side of the angled tailgate glass. The cues from the smaller aggressive Evoque come in the form of the two-bar mesh grille, slender headlights and deep front bumper. The design is retained to satisfy the public›s desire for a proper sporty British SUV.

2. INTERIORSYou have to step up into a Range Rover; it’s part of the appeal. The Sport’s cabin is lavish, stylish, substantial and also much more inviting than the typical premium SUV. With adjustable hip-hugging bolstering and lumbar, the seats are not only beautiful and fabulous to sit in but also give a commanding view. The leather quality is superb, as is the shaping and stitching. The Sport seats five, although an optional third row mostly suitable for kids boosts seating capacity to seven. And when you don›t need the space for passengers, folding the rear seats flat is an easy one-button affair. Cargo capacity remains at 27.7 cubic feet of space behind the second row.

3. PERFORMANCEThe Sport is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8; 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque that gives a 0 to 100 in a blistering 5.3 seconds in a very pleasing sound. Thanks to the new Aluminium construction; the Sport is a full 813 pounds lighter than the

last. That’s not to say it’s a featherweight. The Sport V8 is just over two and a half tons. Power routes through a ZF eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The silky smooth transmission helps it reach and maintain a fast cruise at consummate ease and oomph to spare with little noise intruding into the cabin. For such a powerful engine; 15 inch Brembo brakes have an excellent stopping power. A Sport can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

4. RIDE AND HANDLINGHandling has progressed from remarkable to prodigious. Air suspension, brake-based torque vectoring, adaptive dampers and variable anti-roll bars have only improved on the duality that makes a Range Rover extraordinary nimble handling without sacrificing any of the comfort associated with the brand. The Range Rover Sport is fitted a Terrain Response system that allows the driver to switch the car›s handling dynamics, depending on the road surface. In Dynamic mode for pavements - while the steering is still light - there›s next to no body roll and lots of grip. Curiously, the tighter and more aggressively you push, the better the Sport handles it.

5. SAFETYIt comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control. Also standard are front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic detection. The adaptive cruise control includes an emergency braking feature that automatically applies the brakes if a collision appears imminent. In addition to the two airbags directly in

front of the driver and passenger, there are side, seat-front, thorax and pelvis, an ‘inflatable lanceless curtain system,’ seat belt pre-tensioners and rollover deployment of restraints.

6. EQUIPMENTIt features a keyless ignition/entry, adjustable power front seats and memory settings, cooler, quad-zone climate control, rear LCD screens with wireless headphones, power liftgate, 21-inch aluminum wheels, paddle shifters, adaptive auto bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and tail lamps, Meridian audio system 1700-watt 23-speaker setup, voice-activated hard drive-based navigation, panoramic sunroof, power folding heated mirrors, automated precise and quick parallel-parking system. The 8 inch touch dual screen also displays the angle of the axles, the amount of torque sent to each wheel, and how much the differentials are locking. It›s really quite amazing when you learn to trust it.

VerdictThe redesigned 2014 Sport is quicker, sexier, remarkably well engineered with a handling balance better than just about any SUV. Its biggest drawback is its lackluster fuel economy. There is a place for the consummate all-rounder, like the new Range Rover Sport, in every dream garage. The Range Rover Sport is that sort of car – the one with the go-anywhere, any-time, every time capability, and which also blends in to most places you take it. It eases into your life. I did not want more, or less, of anything; the Sport ideally hits the spot at which it is aimed.

The HotelThe hotel has been in business for over 45 years, and is still the unrivalled giant of luxury amenities, five star restaurants and true Bahraini hospitality. The hotel outshines all in terms of what it offers its guests. Within the complex, there are 359 luxurious rooms and suites, 16 fine-dining restaurants, lounges and bars to experience a myriad of cuisines, swimming-pool, kid›s pool and play area, squash and tennis courts and health club to name a few. There are also several meeting and conference venues. Executive facilities encompass dedicated Platinum facilities with meeting rooms and lounges.

Upon entering the hotel, the first thing you notice is the colossal ceiling adorned with a majestic chandelier, the lobby is beautifully tiled and furnished with the elegance of a palace.

I started my one-night stay by checking in and collecting the key card to my room, a luxury twin room on the higher floor of the hotel. I was escorted by an attendant to the 12th floor, a rustic theme of warm saffron, maroon and brown adorned the walls and floor, soothing yet attractive at the same time.

The guest rooms are big and spacious, with high-speed Internet access, beautifully tiled bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. The most striking attribute was the view from the room, which overlooked the dazzling Manama skyline, the palace, Grand Mosque and azure waters. There’s nothing more relaxing than unwinding with a good book and a hot cup of coffee after a long day whilst gazing onto the view of the city from high up.

The room service menu is impressive and besides the fixed options, you can also order from one of the many restaurants till a certain time of the day.

Having heard much acclaim about the poolside, I decided to check it out for myself to see what the hype was all about. It is located at the reception level, where you take the stairs and descend down to lush-green gardens and a lagoon-style poolside . At that moment, you can almost believe that you’re on a tropical island, with balmy weather, lounge chairs, a miniature waterfall and a pool bar.Restaurants, cafes and loungesThe hotel harbours a kaleidoscope of multi-cuisine fine dining and casual restaurants, cafes and lounges, and is eminently known for its gastronomical haven and award-winning service.

There are nine fine dining restaurants inspired various countries, namely- Takht Jamsheed for Iranian delights, Royal Thailand for Thai food, China Garden for Chinese cuisine, Sato for Japanese victuals, La Pergola for Italian, Margarita Mexicana for a Mexican Fiesta, Fusions, Al Waha for International food and Zahle for a great Lebanese fare. Most of the restaurants provide live entertainment coupled with extraordinary service. It’s best to book a reservation in advance if you want to visit any of these during the weekend as they can tend to pack up quite early.

With such an opulent selection, you are truly spoilt for choice. The cafes and lounges include Café Delices, Al Andalus, Palace Lounge and Waterside Café and there are three bars- Sherlock Holmes English Pub, Typhoon Bar and Lounge and Vintage Wine Bar.

There are several events which are organized by the Hotel during Ramadan,

Al Waha, which was among the best I’ve tried so far. The brunch offers an enormous selection of food from different cuisines, from salads and starters to main course and desert.

A one-night stay at the Gulf Hotel passed by like a breeze and I almost didn’t want it to end. Whether it’s leisure or business, the Gulf Hotel has something to cater to everyone’s needs.

The restaurant scene in Bahrain is dotted with a myriad of Italian eateries but Cucina Italiana offers a fabulous gastronomical experience which is sure to

become a fast-favourite.Upon entering, the atmosphere and

décor almost makes you forget that you are in Bahrain. There is a dominant Godfather theme, with an etched mural of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino adorning the wall and the Godfather trilogy playing on silently TV. The décor is warm and cozy, with a blend of rustic and contemporary.

With a focus on fresh ingredients and traditional Italian cuisine fused with contemporary flavours and presentation, the menu at Cucina Italiana has a great selection

of starters, pizza, pasta, risotto, different meat dishes and more, leaving you spoilt for choice.

My dining partner and I decided to consult with the waiter for dinner suggestions. For starters, we ordered a dish called Gamberi Pastellati, which is battered prawns with chives and mayonnaise. The batter was cooked to a crispy golden and tasted great!

The music in the background sets an elegant, classy tone for the atmosphere, much like its décor.

We then settled for pizza, chicken and pasta for main course. I took in the atmosphere while waiting for the food, amazed yet again at the sheer exquisiteness of the design and décor.

The service was commendable as within a few minutes, the delightful fare was presented on the table.

What we had was Pizza Bandera which had cow’s milk bocconcini mozzarella, rocket leaves, tomato sauce, cherry tomatoes and parmesan shavings lending it the perfect combo of fresh, tangy flavour, with a delicate thin crust. All pizzas are baked in a wood fired oven, and are served in three different sizes.

The second dish was a chef’s special- the Linguine Al Cartoccio, spaghetti with prawns, mussels, clams, baby squids and cherry tomato, an edible piece of paradise for seafood lovers.

The different flavours of the ingredients are very discernible, lending the dish a five-star rating.

The next dish was a chicken special named Rolle DE Pollo which was chicken wrapped with sun dried tomato, spinach

and arugula. This was definitely an interesting victual, presented beautifully and proving to be a flavorsome and filling.

No meal is complete without desert, so we took a look at the desert menu and settled for Tiramisu. This decadent desert was definitely a winner in my books! Everything from the consistency, creamy mascarpone, delightful lady finger and the presentation was perfect!

Cucina Italiana is a must-visit. Combined with luxurious décor, the restaurant’s wonderful palate of Italian favourites radiate with warmth and sophisticated service, provide the ideal setting for smart casual dining by day and refined restaurant dining in the nightfall.

Mink 3D Makeup printer Bane or Boon?

last Note

3D printing is all the rage these, with everything from prosthetic limbs to housing structures can be ‘printed’ in a matter of hours using this advanced advanced.

However, one woman has come up with a revolutionary concept that could prove to be the kryptonite of the $55 million make-up industry.

Harvard Business School graduate Grace Choi has invented a brilliant printing device for women that can print anything from eye shadow to lipstick in the comfort of their own house.

Mink is a portable 3D printer that will allow users to print out any color of makeup using FDA-approved ink. Choi explained, “The inkjet handles the pigment, and the same raw material substrates can create any type of makeup, from powders to cream to lipstick.”

To print color-specific makeup, a user just needs to pick a color, be it from an image found online or a photo they›ve clicked, pull out the hex code and print it out to wear.

She further explains that big makeup brands charge a premium price for pigments. The base materials for most makeup, from

the cheapest lip gloss to the highest-end eye shadow, are basically the same. The markup comes from either the brand name or a lack of scale for a particular color.

It is set to launch later this year, targeting 13-21 year olds will a retail tag of $200. Do you think this will lead to the downfall of the giant makeup industry?
