Sixth Grade Book Report Options

We are interested to hear about all of the books you are reading! At the end of every quarter, students will turn in a book report, and present it to their L.A. class.

This year is going to be a lot of fun. Students may choose any genre of book they

prefer. Books need to be a minimum of 120 pages and approved by their L.A. teacher. Please make sure that the chosen book is grade level appropriate. The following is a list of book report format options. Choose a different format for each quarterly report:

1. Write an opinion newspaper article about your book. You get to be the critic and write a review. Please make sure that your article is at least one typed page in length. Have fun and decorate this report as a newspaper.

2. Pop some popcorn and watch the movie version of your book. Compare the movie to

the book you read. Choose one of the following: a. Typed five paragraph essay b. Venn diagram poster comparing and contrasting the movie and the book. Make

your poster neat and colorful. This must be in your best handwriting and in ink. Include which format you liked better & why you think they made changes in the movie?

3. Plan a trip to an interesting destination in your book. Create a travel guide with pictures.

Describe what you can do while visiting your destination.

4. Create an advertisement poster for your book. Did you love it? Why? See if you can make your audience interested in reading your book.

5. Bring some “souvenirs” from your book to present to your class. Write descriptions

about each, at least four, item that you found. Write about and tell your class how each of these items fit into the storyline.

6. Create the world within your book. Create a diorama depicting a scene from your book.

Be sure to add details and explanations, so you can tell your class about it.

7. Create a movie trailer for your book. Be sure to send this to your teacher in advance to be sure it can play on his/her computer. Make your audience want to see it!

8. Write a children’s book. Create a very shortened version of your book. Include

illustrations and be prepared to share your story with the class.

9. Write a poem about your book. There are many different styles of poetry. Feel free to

ask your teacher for suggestions.

10.Change the ending. Tell your class about your book and write a new ending to share with them.

11.What happens next? So, your book ended. Maybe you still want to know what

happens next? Write an additional short conclusion to your book to extend the story.

12.Letter to the author. Tell them what you thought of their book. What did you like? Do you have any questions for the author? Suggestions?

13.Create a comic strip version of your book. Make it fun and colorful. Be prepared to

share with your class.

14.Was your book inspiring? Write about how your book has improved your life in some way. At least one page please.
