Welcome!

This document will help merchandisers familiarize themselves with Rosaire Pion's procedures and policies for the upcoming season. A working knowledge of this merchandising guide will help ensure your success with us.

We rely on you, merchandisers, to maintain and present our product. If customers entering the garden centre are wowed by our fresh selection and creative displays, you have merchandised correctly. Your work, however, does not end here. It is your responsibility to seek out and maintain regular communication with key store employees. The Home Depot must be informed of upcoming promotions and involved in your day-to-day decision-making. Your close relationship with in-store management keeps stores happy and helps maximize our sales. Partnership and visibility is your key to merchandising success this year!

Your first week… New merchandisers will be constantly learning in their first week on the job. In your first week you must:

• familiarize yourself with our products and allocated bench space • learn the keys to quality merchandising and plant maintenance • familiarize yourself with the spring-season ‘’PLANOGRAM’’ • How to maximize our space with the right product mix

Your Rosaire contact has been in your position before and is happy to provide advice and assistance when needed. Asking many questions is the only way to quickly learn the tools of the trade.

Store visit checklist

Follow these steps at each store: 1. In receiving, sign into the vendor log and take your vendor

pass. 2. Do a walkthrough to see what's new at the garden centre-

- if new product was scheduled to arrive, track it down; check to see if the store has been watering our plants; check to see what sold well and what didn't, etc.

3. Call your supervisor. Let them know what is happening at store-level.

4. Contact the DLGA. Let them know what work you plan to do, resolve any concerns they might have, communicate messages from your supervisor, etc.

5. Front face & condense products on shelves, deadheading and removing dead products as you go.

6. Shelve any new product according to the ‘PLANOGRAM’. 7. Make a rolling rack report. 8. Perform a visual inspection.

Performing a visual inspection A visual inspection at the end of every store visit ensures that our section of the garden centre is presentable. Take the time to ensure that the following checks are made:

1. Shelves are full (no empty spaces) 2. Labels are facing forward, product is front-faced 3. Plants are cleaned and dead-headed 4. Any plant that does not look 100% is removed from the

shelves and marked down, moved to a location further from the entrance (report any markdown to your supervisor)

5. Signage and pricing is correct (1 sign per 2 benches!) 6. Empty racks are removed from the garden centre 7. Empty trays are placed on the shelf of an empty rolling rack

(NOT under the benches!) 8. Aisles are swept clean and free of obstructions

Shelving and display standards This section contains merchandising and display protocol for our products. This can be a useful guide whenever you are unsure about how to shelve a particular article number.

1. Products MUST be displayed separately by article

number. If article numbers are mixed, our products become unshoppable. Pricing and inventory become also unmanageable.

2. All products must be correctly signed. One sign for every two benches as a minimum.

3. Promotional products should be displayed on an island at the entrance of the garden centre or on a monster-cart or on a grower rack if it is necessary.

4. End caps are reserved for larger, high-impact flowering plants. End cap products should be changed weekly to feature our best looking plants.

5. On end caps and monster racks: one product, one price (article number).

6. Ground-cover must be displayed together. (article #1000736759, 1000732404 and 1000736742)

7. If there is space, do not tuck plants under the shelf overhang (turn them sideways).

2013 Markdown/Clearance Strategy

What should be marked down:

Plants that have been damaged (broken stems) or that have arrived at the end of their flowering cycle. Also end of season (end of inventory) products.

Actions to be taken

1. On each visit, identify plants that have lost their full value. 2. Remove them from regular shelves. 3. Decide for each of them if it still worth something. 4. If yes, decide the appropriate new value ($10,$5 or $1). 5. If not, throw it away.

How to merchandise yours marked down plants During spring season, use a Rosaire Pion rack to display yours marked down products. You will use this rack ONLY to display marked down products, following one simple rule:

ONE SHELF = ONE PRICE.

Use your clearance shelf label (new for 2013) to identify every shelf. (See photo.)

End of season Starting in mid-July, you will be able to use a dedicated space on Home Depot benches. Refer to your supervisor to find the best location to merchandise marked down products. A clearance strategy will take place for some products as we get at the end of our inventory. They will be merchandised at this markdown location. Markdown rotation At each visit, you must clean and maintain your markdown area just like you do for your regular shelves. As the quality of the plant decline, reduce the plant. If the original markdown was $10 and the week after, this plant worth only $5, change your markdown sticker appropriately. Remove plants that have lost 100% of their value. Do not try to sell dead plants. Conclusion: As a selling complement, markdown strategy is very important to help increase our bottom line, please make sure you have a nice and tidy markdown area.
