Rope Work KnotsOverhand knot The overhand knot is the simplest type of knot and is used to make a knob in a rope, string, or cord.
Timber Hitch The timber hitch is a knot used to attach a single length of rope to a cylindrical object. Secure while tension is maintained, it is easily untied even after heavy loading. The timber hitch is a very old knot.
Overhand Loop The overhand loop is a simple knot which forms a fixed loop in a rope.
Round Turn and Two Half Hitches The round turn and two half hitches is a hitch used to secure the end of a rope to a fixed object. The name refers to the components used to form the knot: a round turn wraps the rope around the object and the two half hitches secure the end around the standing part.
