    Rome Middle School Suggested Summer Reading 2013-14

    We are constantly trying to improve our Suggested

    Summer Reading List for Rome Middle School students, so this

    years list includes several new authors and selections. We have

    divided the list into 3 categories Fiction/Fantasy/Sci-Fi,

    Nonfiction and eBooks. It is very important for children to be

    reading a variety of genres, and we have included a wide variety

    of contemporary and classic texts from which students maychoose. Some of the texts are specifically recommended for the

    new rigor in the Common Core Curriculum which was rolled out

    last fall. This year, students Summer Reading project is due no

    later than the first full week of school (Aug. 6-10) for an EXTRA

    CREDITGRADE in their literature class. Even if you choose not

    to complete the extra credit assignment, PLEASE READ THIS SUMMER!!!!!

    FICTION/FANTASY ASSIGNMENT: You are to produce either a digital or a paper project for your summer

    reading assignment that explains and illustrates one of the themes from your chosen book. You must have

    clear EVIDENCE FROM THE TEXT WITH CITATIONS! Whatever option you choose will be shared in class in a 3

    minute oral presentation. You have the following options:

    1) Create a Prezi or another multimedia (online) presentation explaining and illustrating one theme from your

    book. You may NOT use Power Point! Example web tools: Prezi, Livebinders, Animoto, GoAnimate, Voki,

    Microsoft Photo Story 3, Windows Moviemaker v 2.6 or Live, Voicethread, Wallwisher (now Padlet),

    Mural.ly

    2) Write a response to literature in which you explain one theme from your book.

    3) Create a poster collage that illustrates your theme and write a brief explanation of your collage.
