    1/1

Some great songs. Some good songs. Not much filler. This is how Andrew Oliver interprets same Some remarkssong by song by way of criticism

    1. Street Fighting Man. Good song. Instrumental suggestive of knowing everything.2. Gimme Shelter. Great song, moving. Starts with wonderment, moves on escalating into anguish. Lyrics start:

My statement on instrumental suggestive of self justification and anguish. Interlude, back to wondermentmixed with anguish. In short, a message song demanding Gimme Shelter whatever that means.

    3. (I Cant Get No) Satisfaction. Great song. Instrumental build up. Lyrics start with variations on I Cant Get No

Satisfaction factual undertoned spaced out et cetera with rather putting on the ritz instrumen tals beating thereplies down.

    4. The Last Time. Good song. Lyrics and instrumental start together. Suggestive of viscious circles.5. Jumpin Jack Flash. Great song. Instrumental starts with mixture of build up and wonderment. Theme of

mystery. Mysterious lyrics what do they mean?6. You Cant always Get What You Want. Great song. Lyrics start: high pitched negativism then mournful music

starts moving on to mournful music and lyrics. Means: some people get too much, some never get anything.Lifes not fair. But lyrics actually say that some people get fobbed off with alienating fob offs, not what theywant. At end instrumental all over the place: means: lifes not fair!! A message song.

    7. 19th Nervous Breakdown. Good song. A song about the fragile at heart. Music and lyrics a bit all over theplace.

    8. Under My Thumb. Great song. Instrumental starts a sort of knowing second order wonderment. A song abouta sort of wife / girlfriend slave who thinks hes turned the tables. Instrumentals mostly all over the place, but

knowing second order wonderment throughtout.9. Not Fade Away. Filler. A bit repetitive in music and lyrics.10. Have You Seem Your Mother Baby? Good song. Starts with strident, clashing instrumentals/lyrics. Stridentcy

about some hard to decode message. Not my favourite.11. Sympathy For The Devil. Truly great song. Instrumental starts with wonderment and then mysterious lyrics. No

doubt jesting about the Prince of Darkness Incarnate, His Satantic Majesty, Lucifer or whatever the RollingStones believe in. Maybe a song about the victims of history. Full of wonderment overlaid with escalatingputting on the ritz on replies and puzzlement. Truly great!

    12. Mothers Little Helper. Great song. A down song. Mournful, melancholeric. About Bex and like little helpers. Also about stoicism, putting up with the drag of getting old. A message song.

    13. Shes A Rainbow. Filler. Instrumentals really a bit false, insincere in tone. Lyrics about insincerity andfalseness.

    14. Get Off Of My Cloud. Filler. About false possessiveness. All in my head. Not about letting people be free to

be free 15. Wild Horses. Good song. Music and lyrics start with wonderment mixed with anguish. About control and

freedom. Anguish at loss. All overlaid with wonderment 16. Ruby Tuesday. Good song. Music and lyrics about falseness used to effect control, but instead loss. And a

sense of loss. False wonderment in tone.17. Paint It, Black. Truly Great song. Instrumental starts with buildup and wonderment. Lyrics start with jealous

allusions. But instrumentals suggest where will it all lead? and whats the point? with underlaidwonderment. Truly great. Fades to wonderment mixed with sad regret and so what?

    18. Honky Tonk Woman. Great song. Instrumental buildup with glee and second order wonderment. Lyrics startwith admiration mixed with contempt. Mentions blues but not really about this emotion. Ongoing buildup andwonderment overlaid with glee.

    19. Its All Over Now. Good song. Instrumental starts with mixture of melodrama and glee. Lyrics state the past ispast and that the singer has moved on. Melodrama increases in intensity. Then tone moves to futility to protest

    20. Lets Spend The Night Together. Good song. Instrumental and chanting suggestive of putting on the ritz to

protest. Pressing his case the singer wants her. Not a named person like many songs entitled with a womansname. Ongoing instrumental buildup also a bit sad and a bit mournful.

A bit analytical I admit, but this sort of music criticism attempts to classify the instrumental s and lyrics in terms of thelanguage of the emotions, music.
