RISA Training Courses

2015 Guide

Get Smart with RISA TrainingIn-Depth & Affordable Training for RISA-3D

These course are the best way to master the powerful tools of RISA’s line of award-winning software.

Resolve ProblemsRISA-3D training is provided by the RISA staff of professional engineers and focuses on teaching Structural Modeling. This is a learned skill (similar to detailing a wood connection) that in many cases is not being taught elsewhere. Learning structural modeling is best taught using examples of real-world problems while being guided by someone who has solved similar problems. Among the many benefits of mastering this skill is that it allows you to solve analysis and design problems quickly and accurately.

Get Your Results FasterOur training focuses on using RISA-3D’s tools to effectively and quickly build models and produce useful results. Even though RISA software has a very friendly interface, there are many features that help you work even more productively. These features can be mastered by working through examples that highlight their usefulness—and that’s exactly what our training classes do.

Continuing EducationFinally, many states require continuous education for renewal of your P.E. license. Each day of RISA training provides 8 PDH units, which is equivalent to 2.4 CEUs for our 3-course series.

Where? Our 3 day course is taught at our location in Foothill Ranch, California. Our 2 day courses are taught at various regional locations. See schedule on next page.

Available Courses

Course 1 Basics of Structural Modeling 1 day $600Course 2 Advanced Structural Modeling 1 day $600Course 3 Dynamic & Response Spectra Analysis 1 day $600

RISA-2D users are welcome to take any of the RISA-3D classes, however, you will benefit most from Course 1 as many of the topics for that class are the same for RISA-2D and RISA-3D.

Terms and ConditionsPlease be advised that training offered by RISA Technologies is non-refundable, but can be rescheduled if you advise our office of your inability to attend within 14 days of the training class you are scheduled to attend. RISA Technologies reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any training class three (3) weeks prior to the first date of training, and will not accept any liability in connection with such cancellation (pre-paid airfare, hotel, etc.). However, if RISA Technologies cancels or reschedules a class, you will be entitled to a refund or you may reschedule your attendance.

Course DescriptionsBelow is a short description of the standard courses. In addition to verbal instruction, each class uses a number of real-world examples to illustrate and clarify each concept as it is being taught. Many of the example models will be built in class to help participants learn and remember the concepts. Please feel free to call us with any particular questions regarding these classes. Each participant will receive the class notes, example problems on disk, a certificate of completion and 8 PDH per training day.

COURSE 1Basics of Structural Modeling (1 day)A comprehensive course on structural modeling, starting at the basics for beginners and progressing all the way up to complex structure creation and manipulation. A variety of modeling approaches are covered such as spreadsheets, graphical tools, and automated structure generation. Special attention is paid to loading, materials, shapes, and code checks on all of the RISA-3D materials (steel, wood, etc). An emphasis is also placed on results interpretation.

Prerequisite: None Individual Course Cost: $600/per person

COURSE 2Advanced Structural Modeling (1 day)This course moves beyond the basics of structural modeling (Course 1) into advanced topics such as P-Delta analysis, thermal and moving loads, and tension-only members. Rigid diaphragms and automated wind/seismic load generation are also covered. Part of this course is devoted to the modeling and results interpretation of finite plate elements, as well as wood and masonry walls.

Prerequisite: Prior completion of either the RISA-3D tutorial or Course 1. Individual Course Cost: $600/per person

COURSE 3Dynamics/Response Spectra Analysis (1 day)Provides practical training in dynamic analysis concepts in general and specific training in the use of RISA-3D to perform dynamic analysis. Topics also covered include mass and stiffness modeling concepts, mode shapes and frequencies (what they are and what they’re good for), local vs. global modes, mass participation, response spectra analysis (RSA) and RSA combination methods (SRSS, CQC, Gupta).

Prerequisite: Prior completion of either the RISA-3D tutorial or Course 1. Individual Course Cost: $600/per person (Foothill Ranch Location Only)

COURSE 4Comprehensive Training (3 days)The standard comprehensive course is a combination of courses 1, 2 and 3.
