Rio de Janeiro – Profile of the urban favela

• Population of the city of Rio: 6.32 million 1.39 million of which live in favelas, or 22% of the population.

• From 1991 to 2010 the population of the formal city grew by an average annual rate of 0.4% while the favela one grew by 2.4%.
