Registration: 8:00 AM - CLASSES are FREE (no cost) Flag Ceremony: 8:50 AM Session I: 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM (Classes close at 9:10 AM) Lunch: 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Session II: 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM (Classes close at 12:40 PM)

1. Copy this flyer and give it to each of your scouts and your adult committee. Help the scouts choose badges appropriate for them.
2. Inform your scouts that they MUST read the requirements in the most current merit badge pamphlet of their choice first, and then
call the Counselor. Counselors have the right to refuse admission to any scout who has not called and prepared properly.
3. Visit with & give your scouts a Blue merit badge application Card (the blue application paper form is fine). The scout must take
his blue card(s) to Merit Badge Day, already filled out and signed by You (on the front only, under the Scout’s name and address).
4. Make sure your scouts are prepared for the merit badges they choose before going to Merit Badge Day.
5. Please tell your scouts to wear their “CLASS A” UNIFORM on Merit Badge Day!
SCOUTS: In order to have a smooth running, successful day for you, we need your help! Boy Scout Motto: BE PREPARED
1. Choose 1 merit badge in the morning & 1 badge in the afternoon. If you choose an All-Day class, you will earn only 1 badge.
2. Read MOST RECENT pamphlets for badges you choose--see Year next to badge name; latest books have to be in Scout Shops.
3. You, the SCOUT (not Mom or Dad), CALL the COUNSELOR IMMEDIATELY to get permission/reserve a space in class!
Ask counselor questions about prerequisites & any pens/pencils, paperwork, projects, equipment, etc. you need to bring.
You must complete prerequisites listed in this packet (plus any other things counselor tells you about) before MB Day.
4. Prepare: Read! Re-read MB book! Do badge prerequisites! Fill out any worksheets you want to download. Bring to MB Day!
5. Find/wear a FULL SCOUT UNIFORM. CAMOUFLAGE, SWEATS, AND T-SHIRTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE AND YOU
WILL BE SENT HOME. COMPLETE UNIFORMS ONLY (not Sash; that’s for SM Conf/Boards of Review/Courts of Honor).
6. Visit with & get a BLUE Card from your Scoutmaster--ask Scoutmaster to sign it once only, under your Name/Address section.
To the SCOUT: YOU need to “know how” to Print SO WE CAN READ IT!..yourName,Address,Phone#,Email,Troop#,District&Council, your Scoutmaster’s name, & correct Badge names from this list. Practice PRINTING! (ours is Rio Hondo District; LAAreaCouncil.) 7. Bring: Merit Badge Books, Blue Cards, things counselor tells you, Sack Lunch or $5, Jacket w/name inside; & be in Uniform!
8. Remember: Classes close after the first 10 minutes. Please be on time, or better yet, BE EARLY!
9. All cell phones must be off during sessions! NO TEXTING!
10. CHECK IN at the Registration Table when you arrive. *If you’re buying lunch, order & pay for it then.

PLEASE NOTE - No Smoking is allowed in or around the area of Merit Badge sessions. IF A SCOUT DID NOT PRE-REGISTER, HE MAY STILL ATTEND ANY SESSION, WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR.
Merit Badges can be finished (signed off) if you’re prepared ahead! “Partials” will be given if you have Not done the Requirements;
so save cards, to be completed later. !Don’t leave class without your Blue Card! It’s the SCOUT’S RESPONSIBILITY to take his
completed blue card(s) to the Scoutmaster for another chat & 2nd
signature, then to Advancement Chair to record/purchase the badges.
SCOUTS need to save all blue cards in 1 spot till age 18, stored in a binder in plastic 9-pocket pages. No Eagle w/out blue cards!
IMPORTANT: Scouts may not call counselors after 9:00PM or before 9:00AM. A SCOUT IS ALWAYS COURTEOUS & KIND.
If machine or voicemail, SPEAK SLOWLY&clearly: Say your Phone#+AreaCode twice, Email, Troop#, & SPELL your Name!
(PARENT: Help your Scout write down what to say on the phone, & Practice! They get nervous and speed up. Counselors cannot
hear or understand who to call back! Call back if you don’t hear from Counselor in 48hrs.

This class is for adults interested in becoming a merit badge counselor or for counselors who haven’t taken the orientation class. You need to be QUALIFIED (skilled, educated, an authority in your subject area), background checked, BSA-registered, trained as a Merit Badge Counselor, & Approved---in order to meet with scouts & sign off on a blue card. Prerequisites: BEFORE MBDay, READ & fill out “Rio Hondo District” White MBCounselor app (not website). Fill out another Adult App+Discl/Auth. Take Online & show on Training Validation (using BSA ID#): “Fast Start BOY Scout,” “This is Scouting,” & “Youth Protection.” You (not SM) must call ahead to reserve, give ID#, ask for RH MBC White, & tell desired badges. All online training & paperwork must be completed before class.
