The result is the new Hazard Communication Standard 2012 (HazCom 2012). Under the new standard, OSHA will now require one standardized format for safety data sheets (SDS) and prescribed wording and hazard symbols on labels. Houghton International is fully committed to complying with the requirements of HazCom 2012 and is working diligently to ensure compliance by OSHA’s deadline of June 1, 2015. Implementation of the new HazCom 2012 system requires major changes to all Houghton (US) SDS and industrial labels. Houghton is dedicating significant time and resources to managing and implementing the changes, including investment in improved systems for easier customer access to information. Houghton International will phase in HazCom 2012 compliant SDS and labels over a period of time beginning January 2015. During the transition, you may see either current or new format SDS and labels. Please refer to the timeline below for further information. Canada is expected to align its existing hazard communication standard with GHS. Houghton will continue to evaluate products sold in Canada and take actions to ensure that compliant SDS and labels are available by the June 2018 deadline. Mexico published a national standard based on GHS in 2011; however, the standard is not mandatory. The standard allows for the use of GHS as an alternative to the existing standard. Once U.S. GHS SDS and labels are available, these will be translated into Mexican Spanish and made available to the Mexican metalworking fluid market. Dear Valued Customer,

In May 2012, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) aligned its existing Hazard Communication Standard with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
