Asymmetrical hemlines, with their flowing edges and bohemian feel, are the perfect uniform for spring picnics and walks in the park. Designers like Jen Kao and BCBg have adjusted their hemlines accordingly, and the look turns out to be universally flattering. skirts that are knee-high in the front and drastically cascade to the ground in the back can elongate the legs and give the illusion of length and height. We found a few options at Queen of Hearts on Westminster street. The royal-blue, braided-waist skirt by Arc and Co. ($49) would easily transition from spring to summer, as would the bold ikat-print skirt by Lucille ($72). At Nava, on Thayer street, we found asymmetrical skirts and shirts in soft jersey material that’s both chic and comfy. And at Clover, also on Westminster street, we discovered a heather-gray, elegantly tailored, floor-length jersey dress with an asymmetrical hem; it’s a statement piece that would be perfectly paired with a bright necklace and high heels.

Conveying confidence and style, bold lips are the makeup trend for spring. Both Marni and Valentino sent their models down the runway wearing brightly colored lipstick, and the look works for us mere mortals as well. To find your perfect pout, head to makeup master MAC Cosmetics at the providence place Mall, where you’ll find classic and adventurous shades like “russian red” (a bold, warm red), “pink nouveau” (which comes close to magenta), and “Morange” (described by MAC as “loudmouth orange”). Or experiment with “Cider” (bronze) or “Drama” (plum) tints, available at Queen of Hearts. To balance the bold lip look, keep the rest of your makeup light and clean.

From multi-colored manicures to sassy, stay-on shellacs, nail color (or art, in some cases) is more daring than ever. Taking a cue from the runways of new York and paris, polish collections also are inextricably linked to fashion, music, and film.

Capitalizing on one of the most anticipated major motion picture releases of the spring, nail giant China Glaze is set to stock shelves with a dozen shades inspired by The Hunger Games, the young adult sensation that celebrated a March movie release. peppered with metallic and shimmering shades with a nod to natural elements (Harvest Moon, smoke and Ashes), the collection will appeal to both the Katniss Everdeens and Effie Trinkets among us.

For nails that like it haute, Chanel’s spring 2012 nail collection is unapologetically high-end, with “classic and trend-defining shades” including a limited edition “Coco Blue,” a muted baby-blue hue created in celebration of Fashion’s night Out, ultra-feminine pinks, and unorthodox shades of plum, peridot, and more.

Known as much for their witty names as for their trendy shades, O.P.I. has paired with the ever-colorful nicki Minaj for six new colors inspired by the eye-catching chart-topper. Look for neon lime green, bubblegum pink, and a hip “shatter” or crackle finish at local salons.

plaids, tweeds, and blazers: not just for preppies anymore. Designers are putting a modern spin on old-school looks, and the result is that dressing for the workweek just got super-fun. For a runway example, consider Kenzo’s “shorts-suit” — bright red, pleated shorts with a modern matching jacket. Locally, we spotted an extensive collection of plaid skirts and pants at Nava on Thayer street; at Berks, snatch up a $28 pair of plaid ballet flats. The Tulle brand striped blazer at Queen of Hearts ($78) is a charming spring layer, perfect for a sail or a brunch date.

Last season, we extolled neutral shades, but this spring we’re stepping out into the sun with a rainbow’s worth of colorful wardrobe choices. Louis Vuitton and Marni gave us collections full of delicious sherbet colors, and local boutiques are offering a similarly eye-popping selection. These juicy shades aren’t reserved for country clubs and cruise vacations anymore — we found everything from pantsuits and cocktail dresses to sports wear and weekend attire in watermelon pink, tangerine orange, pineapple yellow, kiwi green, and cotton-candy blue. Try on Arc and Co.’s daring red scalloped shorts with gold beading ($54) at Queen of Hearts on Westminster street, or choose from the store’s primary-tinted socks and bangles if you prefer your color in bursts. Berks, up on Thayer street, carries candy-colored flats and heels ($20 and up), sure to make your mouth water at manageable prices.

Cynthia Bogart moved to rhode island from Manhattan in 2001 seeking a less stressful environment for herself and her family, and she found it on Aquidneck island. But that doesn’t

mean she’s slowed down.As a regional editor for Meredith Corporation, which

publishes Better Homes & gardens, Traditional Home, and Country Home, Bogart knew a thing or two about lifestyle publications, but she also saw the challenges that traditional print magazines would face in an increasingly digital age.

“i realized i had to look ahead to the future,” Bogart says. “i saw that there was a void online in the market place for women over 35 to find quick reads in home and lifestyle topics. i have three kids and a home; i don’t have time to read magazines, so the idea came from my own experience. Most women today read their email, their Facebook and, and i thought, ‘Why not an online magazine that covers the basics of day-to-day life?”’ Thus thedailybasics.com — an online lifestyle magazine — was born.

The site features original content daily in the form of news reports, expert blogs, and videos. “Our reader probably has four jobs — worker, mom, wife, homekeeper,” Bogart muses. “And she volunteers. she’s crazy busy!” Bogart adds that thedailybasics.com reader can check the site in the morning for new articles or access new content via Facebook and Twitter during the day. “On Facebook, our reader can check to see what we are doing, what our posts are for the day and highlights of what people in our blogging community are doing,” she explains.

“Twitter has also opened up an entirely new world to me,” she adds, noting that she has “met” most of thedailybasics.com’s guest bloggers via social media. Bogart calls her expert contributors and guest bloggers “social influencers,” because they bring a large network of social media connections to the site.

readers tend to show most gusto over the site’s well-curated food and cocktail section. “people love to eat and ‘Mad Men’ has spurred a craze for mixed drinks,” Bogart says. posts by new York Times journalist Karen Jones elicit passionate reader responses, as do blogs by local restaurateur robin White and Williams sonoma’s mixologist, “The Cocktail Whisperer” Warren Bobrow.

in addition to thedailybasics.com, Bogart co-sponsors (along with fashiondecor.com, Benjamin Moore paints, and Aubuchon Hardware) a two-day “Tweet-up” Vip tent for Twitter users at The Brimfield Antiques Fair, which takes place this year on May 10 and 11 (brimfieldtweetup.blogspot.com). With celebrity appearances from Bravo TV and HgTV stars, “the idea is that we people who Tweet together can meet face-to-face, network, and socialize in real life while sharing the love of shopping for antiques.” x

LET’S gET phYSIcaL! Do you tend to run into ex-boyfriends, bosses, and

frenemies directly after heart-pounding spinning workouts that leave you looking like you’ve just gone through 10 rounds with Mike Tyson? is your

athletic gear comprised of decade-old gym shorts and baggy promotional tee shirts? it may be time to give your workout wardrobe an overhaul — and luckily for fitness buffs (or those trying to be), the littlest state has a lot of choices when it comes to finding the perfect activewear. Whether you’re running a half-marathon or running a few errands, the sporty look is hot this spring.

When searching for the perfect pieces, the first thing to consider is how you’ll need it to perform. Are you looking for pants with stretch and an adjustable fit for yoga, or something with high-tech fabric to wick away sweat during your morning run? Do you need a sports bra that will offer maximum support during Zumba or one that is softer and more flexible for low-impact activities like weight-lifting or power-walking?

Today’s athletic wear fortunately proves that fashion and function don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Consider the relay strappy tank top by nike (City Sports, 271 Thayer street, providence; $50), which is sexy and sporty with a scoop neckline and double straps that fuse into a racerback cut, available in spring’s array of bright color combinations including pink/green, blue/orange, and purple/lime. sweat-wicking Dri-FiT fabric keeps you dry while innovative flat-seams minimize distracting chafing.

ideal for when you want to go straight from Vinyasa Flow class to the market for a few quick things, the Quinn tank by prAna in an eye-catching Waterfall Brust print (Potter & Co., 172 Thames street, newport; $52) is super stylish with a scoop-neck cut and

a racerback panel. Made from brilliantly colored Veeda fabric, the top’s built-in shelf bra offers support while stretch fabric expands and contracts with every movement.

As your heart rate goes up along with spring temperatures, light, breathable pieces will be your best bet. The great Escape running shorts by Under Armor (City sports, 271 Thayer street, providence; $29.99) seems to grant every runner or walker their wish: an extra-wide waistband for the utmost comfort and versatility. split vents and semi-fitted, lightweight construction offer extra mobility and breathability — and oh!

just when you were debating where to stash the house key before your workout, this design offers a hidden key pocket (don’t forget your i.D.)!

Layering is crucial this time of year, and the run: swiftly Ls Tech long-sleeved top at Lululemon Athletica (145 Wayland Avenue, 2nd Floor, providence; $68) can act as an ideal base layer on chilly spring mornings or on its own. The body-skimming fit eliminates extra bulk, and thoughtful thumbholes keep sleeves in place throughout your

run (plus they keep wrists warm). since opening a providence showroom in Wayland square last fall, the community can shop new Lululemon Athletica products and learn about local yoga and fitness classes at the same time.

For new moms who are serious about getting back in pre-baby shape, the BOB ironman stroller (the official stroller of the ironman Triathlon) features a state-of-the-art, adjustable suspension system and a padded, adjustable reclining seat so tots can enjoy a smooth ride while mom (or dad!) burns some serious calories (REI, 22 Chapel View Boulevard, Cranston; $369). it’s an excuse buster — the stroller’s canopy protects against the elements, plus the two-step folding, lightweight frame makes it easy to grab and go. x

SpRIng fLIng Just as the daffodils and forget-me-nots begin to push

their way through the thawing earth to reveal bright, bold colors, our wardrobe takes a cue from nature and embraces eye-catching, artful hues. Even the pantone

Color institute chose a daring shade of orange (Tangerine Tango) to be the color of 2012, so it should come as no surprise that audacious color is dominating spring style.

A spectrum of jeans by BDg line the shelves in a rainbow of unabashedly bold colors at Urban Outfitters (285 Thayer street, providence; $58) —electric blue, plum, persimmon, orange, emerald green, and yellow. in high-rise, skinny, and cigarette cuts, trendy colored denim is easily dressed up or down with sparkles or neutrals. not just reserved for garments, showy shades are making a splash in footwear as well. The pink pineapple classic driving loafer, available at Island Outfitters, (473 Thames street, newport; $118), comes in everything from pale pastels (pink, taupe, and turquoise) to louder hues of burnt orange, cobalt blue and purple. The shoe, adorned with a classic gold or bamboo horsebit, is the perfect everyday choice for spring.

Maybe it’s Twitter’s fault (that logo is lovable, ain’t it?), but charming bird prints are all the rage on everything from place settings to purses. An adorable dress by Tulle (Berks Shoes, 278 Thayer street, providence; $52) features a whimsical orange bird print on a blue background. Ornate button detailing along the shoulder spices up a simple silhouette that’s punctuated by a modest neckline and comfortable cinched waist sure to flatter most every figure. The scattered Wing skirt by Leifsdottir from Anthropologie (garden City Center, 56 Hillside road, Cranston; $128) in blue or orange celebrates the free spirit with its draped hemline, pin-tucked waist, and gathered front. And for fashionistas in the making, the full skirt with little partridges in appliquéd mixed-

print fabrics (Nordstrom, 6 providence place, providence; $54) by Mini Boden will make you wish there was a grown-up version.

Classic styles endure this spring as evidenced in another knockout by Tulle, available at Berk’s and reminiscent of Jackie O’s time spent on the greek isles ($54). With a decidedly vintage feel, orange, turquoise, and lime come together in a pattern reflective of brushstrokes on a watercolor painting. sleeveless with

pleating at the natural waist, the silhouette is updated with sleek, side-slit pockets and would be perfectly paired with ballet flats. Another archetypical spring choice is the Lilly pulitzer shift dress — palpably preppy with signature style, this label is a favorite among generations of women. The pink-and-gold Elias dress from ZuZu’s Petals (165 Main street, East greenwich, and more locations; $298) is super sweet with a scoop neckline festooned with an ultra-feminine bow at the neck.

Less is more when it comes to spring’s popular cutout trend, and the key is not to judge by how it looks on the hanger. The sexy but stylish cutout dress by sparkle & Fade at Urban Outfitters ($59) mixes sophisticated elegance with a modern edge.

Constructed with stretchy fabric, the piece features a slight sweetheart neckline, spaghetti straps, and pleats that surround the empire waist. The voluminous skirt hides any tummy issues and the cutouts draw the eye to the slimmest part of the body.

Classic American clothier J. McLaughlin (180 Bellevue Avenue, newport, $98) has always infused charismatic prints with color; their roomy Aken tote with a refreshing green-and-blue quad print is no different. Leather handles with gold hardware polish up the preppy piece while six pockets make it easy to stash and protect valuables. Want to personalize it? The shop is always glad to send the Aken and select other items out to be monogrammed for just $20 extra. x

EVERYThIng buT ThE dRESS You may have said yes to the dress, but as any bride

will tell you, the gown is but one component of your wedding day ensemble. Whether you’re envisioning a gatsby-esque affair in a newport mansion by-the-

sea, nature-infused nuptials in providence’s roger Williams Botanical garden, or a wine-filled fête at a rhode island vineyard, accessories really do make the bride.

from head...if there’s one fashion must-have that is quickly becoming Britain’s most beloved export, it’s the fascinator. A type of millinery, fascinators are worn in lieu of traditional hats. (As you may recall, the royal Wedding was a virtual headwear showdown, pitting unforgettable monstrosities against classic, feather-plumed pieces.)

Designer Ann McMahon of Savoir Faire Hats ($20–$148, etsy.com/shop/savoirfairehats) hand-crafts hats and fascinators at arts and artisan shows throughout rhode island and Massachusetts, using materials including silk flowers, French birdcage veiling, and ostrich feathers. Each piece is one-of-a-kind. While crafters and fashion-forward women have long enjoyed this whimsical accessory, even international retailers like Nordstrom are now embracing the trend, offering everything from simpler hair combs with winding ribbons and floating feathers to more flamboyant styles with crystals, feathers, and chenille-dot veiling ($18–$78, nordstrom, 6 providence place, providence). remember: flaunty fascinators can be worn after the wedding ceremony if you prefer to wear a traditional veil for part of your day.

...To ToeOnce upon a time, simple satin pumps were the bride’s ubiquitous wedding day footwear; today, the bolder the better.

The Harvest Moon peep-toe pump in blush from Sole Desire is constructed from iridescent fabric with floral sequin detail covering the entire shoe ($69.99, 131 swinburne row, newport). Also at sole Desire, find the glitter-soaked sookie shoe by Madden girl in gold, pink, or multicolor — a sassy sling-back platform pump for the dance-happy bride ($33). if flats are more your style, Caparros Zandra satin flat ($75, Zappos.com) comes in bold fuchsia, turquoise, light bronze, silver, black, and metallic hues and is crowned with a jeweled accent on the vamp.

all that glittersshopping for those precious pieces that will be worn everyday

for the rest of your life? Find unique wedding bands at Adornment Jewelry (36 south County Commons Way C1, Wakefield; and 213 goddard row, newport), where salesfolk report this hot new trend for the bride-to-be: wearing a pair of wedding bands on either side (above and below) of the engagement ring. Bands can be elaborate with graduated, round, brilliant-cut diamonds all around or as simple as a classic, elegant, sterling-silver ring sans the bells and whistles. (Triple bands for her can proffer a substantial look and feel, so before falling for the style, you’ll want to try them on a few times to make sure you’ll be able to carry all that bling.)

Eighteen-carat white gold remains the most in demand metal for brides, while Adornment says most men go for 14k hammered white gold, with a luster but not a high-mirror shine.

Another royal Wedding-inspired trend is wearing wedding bands that incorporate color, usually birthstones. While the Duchesss sports a simple gold wedding band, her (eyebrow-raising) sapphire engagement ring infuses an unexpected dash of color that clearly takes center stage. Also reminiscent of the royals, Adorment is seeing the use of sentimental family

heirloom diamonds being re-introduced into thoroughly modern settings. important to remember: in this day and age, a bride and groom’s wedding bands need not match or even coordinate, so embrace a style all your own!

To ensure that the bride shines under all the lights, she needs accessories that glow. providence-based, but nationally adored, Ti Adoro Jewelry (“ti adoro” means “i adore you” in italian) includes swarovski crystals in many pieces for show-stopping shine. The Monroe necklace, created with graduated floral components made from swarovski Elements, will take guests’s breath away with its vintage hints and unbelievable glittering shine. Call owner Maria ruggieri (401.831.3313) for more information.

Bridal party bling makes for a useful and reusable memento. Costume jewelry is a wonderful choice for bridesmaids’ gifts — they can wear gifted pieces on the big day and into the future. if your ladies are wearing simpler silhouettes, opt for maximum eye candy with chandelier or drop-stone earrings, like silver double-drop earrings with shimmering clear stones by Sequin ($38, 474 Thames street, newport and more locations).

It’s in the bagTo be sure, your army of bridesmaids will cater to your every whim throughout the day — but if you need a place to stash a few personal belongings like lipstick or a compact, check out the handbag options at Sassy & Classy ($19-85; 187 Main street, East greenwich). From sleek, shining clutches to vintage-inspired satchels festooned with ostrich plumes, you’re certain to find a purse that matches your décor (and your shoes)! x

can WE buY You a dRInk? Cocktails in rhode island have come a long way in the

last few years and that’s mostly due to a new crop of bartenders who desire to mix more than your standard Cosmo or Long island iced Tea. Three of

the hottest places for cocktails in providence are The Dorrance, Tini and Cook & Brown public House. Meet the individuals who are raising the bar in these spots.

jesse hedbergEstablishment: The Dorrance, 60 Dorrance streetfavorite drink to mix? i’ve always enjoyed mixing anything i like to sip on myself. i really like conjuring the spirits and evoking the classic martini: two parts dry gin, one part good French vermouth, a dash of orange bitters, stirred, served up with a lemon twist. it’s perfectly simple and unboundedly elegant. A true example of less is more. On a side note, f — — dry martinis.Secret to being a great bartender? i think one of the secrets to being a great bartender is not having any secrets. share your knowledge, your experience, and those little tricks that you’ve picked up along the way. The more informed your colleagues, your guests, and even your competitors are, the better you have to be.best Rhode Island bartending story? i’ve been behind a bar or two, on-and-off for a decade now, and i’ve seen some serious salaciousness and hijinks over the years. i’ll spare you some of the ugly details. going way back in time, my first official shift as a real deal, bona fide bartender was at a nightclub in newport. On this night the place was totally empty at first, which was quite discouraging to a young aspiring barman like myself. Finally, after a long while, this guy came waltzing in by himself. He sat down and ordered a gin and tonic with lime. it was six or seven dollars and as he handed me a $100 bill to pay for the drink he said, “Keep the change!” i couldn’t believe it, but he assured me

that this indeed was his intention. That was the first drink i ever served, and to this day that was the most gracious tip i’ve ever been given.Where do you like to go for a drink? in my opinion, Lili Marlene’s is unequivocally the best bar in providence. it’s unpretentious, drinks are cheap, and the beer is so cold it’s sometimes encrusted in ice. i feel so comfortable there i often think of it as my other living room. The Avery has a great atmosphere and impressive spirits, beer, and cocktail lists. if i get out of The Dorrance in time to catch last call after work, i go around the corner to see Todd at The Congress. He’s the quintessential bartender. What do you drink at home? sometimes i try new cocktail recipes in my kitchen but generally i don’t mix drinks at home. i do red wine, or vermouth on the rocks, maybe a beer. Lately i’ve been into European eau-de-vies like Kirschwasser and slivovitz. You take shots of the stuff. If you were a liquor, what would you be? i guess i’d be a Miller High Life: champagne taste on a beer bottle budget. ThE EdgaR WInTER1 oz. alicia canningEstablishment: Tini, 200 Washington streetfavorite drink to mix? The Must Lust cocktail that we have at Tini. grape and mint is one of my favorite flavor combinations. it is a simple cocktail, yet fun to drink with its prosecco bubbles.Secret to being a great bartender? i think the secret is just a love for experimentation and trying new things. Also, being someone who is able to share this excitement with the customer. i love to make drinks that have a process to them, versus the fast and basic cocktails.best Rhode Island bartending story? Late one night at Tini, a group of teenage girls were passing by our large store-front windows. One of the girls, walking ahead of the rest, decided to moon her friends. seconds later she was mortified to discover that she also mooned a bar full of people. i never saw someone run so fast!Where do you like to go for a drink? Either The Dorrance or a late-night smoke machine party at my place. What do you drink at home? Usually a full-bodied red wine, such as norman Vineyards red Zinfandel or others of that ilk.If you were a liquor, what would you be? green Chartreuse! it takes a couple of sips to get to know me, but once you do, you will see the world through green-colored glasses.

jen ferreiraEstablishment: Cook & Brown public House, 959 Hope streetfavorite drink to mix? Without [wanting to sound] too cheesy, every drink. The process of making drinks is why i’m in this biz.

so i would have to say the more steps in the drink the better!Secret to being a great bartender? Creativity! The craft simply would not exist if it wasn’t for the creativity of our barkeep forefathers. so in order to keep with the tradition you must be willing to constantly push the envelope.best Rhode Island bartending story? i’ve been tending bar for seven years now and i’ve worked at a lot of different bars in a lot of different places. As you can imagine, i have a lot of stories. However, most are probably not appropriate for the general public. A big part of the job is treating the bar like Vegas. What happens there stays there. i plead the fifth.Where do you like to go for a drink? Lili Marlene’s. it’s dark, the music is good, the drinks are always cold (the coldest High Life in town), food until midnight, and the staff is always wonderful. What more could you ask for out of a bar? What do you drink at home? A nice cold High Life is always the best part of my night. If you were a liquor, what would you be? rum — sweet, yet surly.

LocaL food, faST There’s a saying that goes: if given the options of fast,

good, or cheap, you can only pick two — you can’t have all three; one option will always suffer.

But when it comes to on-the-go food in providence, that hypothesis has been disproved. El rancho grande serves up delicious Mexican food at great prices, seven days a week. Chez pascal’s Hewtin’s Dogs Mobile Food Truck has one of the best deals in the state with their high-quality, all-beef hot dog. And the barely one-year-old Mama Kim’s Korean BBQ truck delivers authentic gourmet Korean food at great prices.

a plateful of authenticitysituated on the ground floor of a house on plainfield street on the West side of providence, El Rancho Grande offers Mexican cuisine prepared by chef and co-owner Maria Meza. Maria moved to rhode island from puebla, Mexico, more than 40 years ago and always wanted to open a restaurant serving her native region’s traditional dishes. Finally, on Cinco de Mayo in 2007, she and her son Joaquin Meza Jr. opened El rancho grande’s doors and the place has been booming ever since.

With the exception of a few seafood dishes and specials, very few items on the menu costs more than $10, and all of it is very good and cooked fresh by Meza that day. For Valentine’s Day last year, Meza dreamed up a mariscos (shellfish) dish — shrimp and scallops cooked in a red spicy arbor-chile sauce with her house-made chorizo (some of the best fresh chorizo you’ll find in the area). it proved to be so popular that it’s a regular special now and at $8 it’s a complete steal.

if you want something truly authentic from puebla, we suggest Meza’s Mole poblano; those in the know say this dish contains the best mole (a spiced, smoky, chocolate-based savory sauce) they’ve ever had. in providence, Meza finds that the mole sauce sells best over chicken breasts, but feel free to ask for it on dark meat turkey pieces, as it is traditionally served. The $10 dish comes with salad, rice, refried beans, and tortillas.

Is there bacon on the truck?providence is catching onto the movable feast trend, too. Food lovers in area know that that Chez pascal is the casual French dining destination in town. What they may not be aware of — yet — is that the Chez pascal folks are behind the increasingly popular Hewtin’s Dogs Mobile Food Truck (and, during the summer

months, Hot Dog Cart). Everything on the Truck is under $10 and it is some of the highest quality fast food you’ll ever find — yes, fast food. For about the same price you’d pay at a national burger chain (and in about the same amount of time) you can get much better food, sourced from local, sustainable ingredients.

The hot dog is the least expensive item on the truck — a good-sized dog for $2.75. Hewtin’s Dogs serves all-beef hot dogs made by grote & Weigel outside Hartford, Connecticut. They are skinless, but because they are all-beef the texture is firm, giving you the feel of a snap, as if they had a casing. Chez pascal chef and Hewtin’s co-owner Matt gennuso reports that most customers “like them plain and then they dress them up with all of our condiments” (a traditional selection of onion, relish, chili, and house-made ketchup and mustard). How does gennuso like his hot dog? “i like them sometimes just with a little ketchup, or with chili, cheese, and sweet pepper relish. Or, if we have bacon on the truck, i will do them with coleslaw, bacon and pickle relish.”

Showcasing family recipes, fastOne of the newest trucks on the block(s) of providence is Mama Kim’s Korean BBQ truck started by “Mama” sook Kim and her son Hyun Kim. As with El rancho grande, sook Kim had long wanted to open a restaurant featuring her native Korean food; the Kims decided that a food truck aas the best way to showcase the family recipes.

Every dish is prepared fresh on the truck by sook Kim along with her sous chef Donald Fecher and crew chef James nelson. With the exception of the occasional special, nothing on the truck is over $7 — again, the best quality fast food you’ll find at great prices.

Their Beef Bulgogi rice set is an excellent meal served with premium Korean rice from the gyeonggi province and house-made kimchi. The traditional Kim recipe calls for shaved sirloin to marinate in a mixture of soy sauce, ground Korean pears, garlic, and freshly chopped vegetables; the meat is then grilled and served with sautéed onions and mushrooms and a wasabi-aioli sauce. if you’re not hungry enough for a whole meal, for $3 you can get the Beef Bulgogi, or several of their other rice set dishes, in wraps or freshly made slider buns.

There you have it — fast, cheap, and good — and three different ways. You could even hit El rancho grande, Hewtin’s Dogs, and Mama Kim’s all in one day, spend less than $40, and have leftovers too. x
