Countdown to Merger Wednesday, July 1st, our new parish, St. John XXIII, becomes a reality. In this weekend’s liturgy Saint Paul teaches us that we who are baptized have been baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection. We are a holy people in Christ. It is Jesus who is leading us today as a newly formed parish to carry out his mission here on earth. He calls us onward into the future, to follow him on the Paschal journey from the cross to new life. This is the call of our baptism. Let us pray for Christ’s abundant grace that we will be a resurrection people of courage and hope in a new, vibrant parish, with effective ministries, to bring his Gospel to all in our world.

Our New Website Address With the merger of our three parishes and our new name beginning on July 1, our website also has a new name and address:

www.john23.org Also, the email addresses for our staff has been changed to: [email protected]. Please see our staff listings for new staff email addresses.

Flocknote enables the parish administration to contact the entire parish in an instant via text message and e-mail.

There are two ways to sign up:

1. You can join at any time by texting: join219 to 84576.

2. If you would like to sign up using an email follow this link: https://stbenedicttheabbot2.flocknote.com/

Please contact the office at 724-941-9406 with any questions or concerns.

Private Prayer and Confessions The Narthex at St. Benedict will continue to be open for private prayer on weekdays from 9:15 am to 4:30 pm. The Vestibule at St. Francis will be open for private prayer weekdays from 9:45 am to 2:30 pm. Saturday Confessions will be held at St. Benedict at 11:00 am. We will be located under pop-up tents between the Church and O’Brien Hall. Please line up down the long sidewalk between the buildings being careful to observe 6-ft. social distancing.

Mass Schedule Changes—July 6 Please note the changes to the Mass schedule beginning Monday, July 6. Thanks for your patience as we experiment and tweak online reservations, space capacities, and the Mass schedule (at least to start with) for our new parish. The weekday Mass schedule will be: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

8:30 am at St. Benedict 9:00 am at St. Francis

Tuesday 9:00 am at St. Francis

Thursday 8:30 am at St. Benedict

On Saturday and Sunday, the Masses will be:

4:00 pm Saturday at St. Francis 5:00 pm Saturday at St. Benedict 8:00 am Sunday at St. Benedict 9:00 am Sunday at St. Francis 10:00 am Sunday at St. Benedict

Because we must limit the number of people who can be in the church, you will need to go to our website (www.john23.org/mass-reservation) to reserve a seat to attend the Mass. We will live stream the Vigil Mass at St. Benedict at 5:00 pm on Saturday evening and daily Mass at St. Benedict during the week on our website: www.john23.org.

Outdoor Communion Service On Wednesday after the 8:30 am Mass at St. Benedict and 9:00 am Mass at St. Francis, we will have an outdoor Communion Service for those who feel they cannot attend Mass . At St. Benedict, please come to the area below the bell tower and follow the usher’s directions. Please allow room for those at Mass to exit as you line up to receive Communion.

Online Reservation Changes Fr. Bob Miller Beginning with morning Mass on Monday, June 29, our online reservation system for all Masses (both weekday and weekend) will change to Flocknote, which will be easier to manage and will eliminate the 24 hour cutoff for reservations prior to Mass. It would have been nice to use Flocknote from the beginning but the Flocknote reservation system was not yet operational. For those in the Flocknote system, an E-Mail and text will be sent to you containing the sign up link. For those not in Flocknote, please go to our NEW webpage: www.john23.org and you will find the link. We do not handle reservations in the Parish Office. Regarding the reservations, we have had questions and complaints as to why we need them and what we do with the names. The main reason for reservations is for us to manage our limited capacity. If you have a reservation, it guarantees that you have a seat for Mass. To me, it is absolutely critical that if you make an effort to get to Mass, that you are not turned away because we have reached our capacity. A reservation guarantees your seat. A secondary reason to collect names and contact information is to alert the people at a particular Mass if someone has tested positive for Covid-19 who attended that Mass. We do that as a courtesy to you. If I am in the presence of someone who has the virus, I would want to know so that I could monitor my own health. We are not under any obligation to send the names to the Health Department. While I would prefer not to have to use a reservation system and I am looking forward to the day that we no longer need to, I see reservations as being essential to managing our limited capacity.
