Not long ago, Sseko was headquartered under a mango tree in rural Uganda. It was just four young women,

making sandals and dreaming about what the future held. Sseko Designs now employs over 50 women from all walks of life, who together make beautiful things. Through the making and selling of beautiful products, incredibly bright and passionate young women are able to continue their educations and chase their dreams. We love to dream about the futures of these women--about the change they will bring to their country. But we love dreaming about the present as well-- we are committed to building a community of people, both in East Africa and the US, who have the courage to dream about and work towards a more beautiful world.

These women will not make sandals forever. They will go on to become doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers, and teachers who will bring change to their country and our world. Sseko Designs uses fashion to provide employment and scholarship opportunities to women pursuing their dreams and overcoming poverty. We provide full-time employment and access to a comprehensive social impact program to our entire team in Uganda, and we do it all through a financially self-sustaining model. Your ribbons

Sseko Ribbon Sandals are bases with 5 anchor points through which interchangeable fabric ribbons are laced. Removable leather accessories can also be added-on using those same fabric ribbons. Our soles are made from 3 materials: leather, microfoam, and rubber and come in women’s whole sizes 5-12. The top layer is genuine, high quality leather that is sourced from local family farmers. In the middle, our soles have a layer of microfoam that forms to the foot over time and a foam wedge in the heel for added and lasting comfort. Finally, the bottom layer is rubber that is produced in Kenya. All materials for Sseko ribbon sandal bases are sourced from East Africa.

Sseko ribbons are all 64 inches long and vary in width, depending on the material from which they’re made. We purchase fabrics for ribbons in the local marketplace in Kampala, Uganda. All Sseko ribbons are produced in our workshop in Uganda. Sseko sandal accessories are made from genuine leather and come in three shapes: triangle, circle, and rectangle. Triangle and circle accessories are one standard size, and can be worn with any size sandal. Rectangle accessories come in size small (recommended for sizes 5-7) and large (recommended for sizes 8-12). All sandal accessories are handmade in our workshop in Uganda.

employees and actively promotes women to leadership roles within the company. Every crossbody bag can be worn three ways (as a folded crossbody, full-size crossbody, and a clutch), has three interior pockets, one

and a zippered pocket inside. The leather is finished using an oil-pulling technique that brings the beautifully rugged, distressed look to the bag.

Sseko scarves are hand-woven in Ethiopia by artisans who earn a fair wage and are given the opportunity to preserve and promote indigenous trades and skills by our partnering organization. Our scarves are made from both Eri silk and Ethiopian cotton and come in both infinity and rectangle shapes. Each season Sseko releases

new styles in several different, lovely textures and color ways. The woven shawl is made by hand through traditional weaving, this shawl is extremely technical and takes an entire day to make a single one, but the

result is a beautifully intricate work of art.

Sseko wallets come in two sizes, standard and travel, and are made from locally sourced leather in Ethiopia. Our leather totes are handmade by a partnering organization in Kenya that is working to empower local artisans and end the cycle of poverty through fair wage employment. Every tote is made from high quality leather sourced from the Rift Valley in Kenya and canvas lining. Totes are 13” (h) x 18” (l) x 5” (w) and have

a drop length (handles to top of bag) of 9.5.” Each tote has three internal pockets and a laptop compartment that fits up to a 15” computer. Our Accent tote is the same in construction as our Harbor and Saddle totes,

but comes with a removable accent feature at the base of the leather handles. Using hook and eye hardware, different accent pieces are secured to change up the look of the bag.

All tote accents are produced exclusively for use with the Sseko accent tote, and are handmade out of genuine leather in our workshop in Uganda. Accents come in pairs (one for each handle) or in a single piece that

stretches from handle to handle. They are embellished using fabrics (such as lace), studs, and paper beads: a traditional Ugandan craft and product. With hook and eye hardware, each accent piece can be secured to

change up the look of the bag.
