Definition & Purpose What is a resume?
Snapshot of your professional self
NOT an autobiography!
What is the purpose of a resume?
Used to obtain an interview
Conveys expertise, knowledge & competency
How long is a resume?
1 page is preferred method (less than 10 years of experience)
NEVER more than 2 pgs. (w/ 10+ yrs. of experience)
What is a curriculum vitae (CV)?
Written overview of a person's experience & other qualifications
No minimum or maximum length
Much more detailed than a resume
Who needs a resume?
EVERYONE!

Objective
This is a statement of your goal for employment.
Examples:
To build a long-term career in [specific industry] with opportunities for career growth.
To enhance my educational and professional skills in a stable and dynamic workplace.
To provide quality service while conveying organizational commitment and goals.
1 sentence – concise and intelligent
Experience Your work experience in a chronological order
Most recent/current job first
Relevant to the job in which you are applying
Go back at least 5 years – 10 years is preferred College Students:
Volunteer experience
Internships
Work study program
Job Title --- Company Name --- Location
Description – Job Duties/Tasks Short & concise sentences – in bullet point format
No more than 4 bullet points per job
Should be in-line with the job posting
Use key words from job company description
Education
High school Name of school - location – degree – graduation date
College experience Name of school – location - degree – graduation date (or
anticipated date)
Special Training Certificates
Trade/specialty
Skills & Abilities
