PRIMARY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (some examples provided only)

Project Management – I have developed and managed a range of projects including the Coastal

Catchments Initiative – Peel-Harvey nutrient monitoring network that established automated water quality samplers and flow gauges at flow rated sites and over twenty monitoring and investigative projects in Cockburn Sound, Warnbro Sound and Owen Anchorage, i.e. southern metropolitan coastal waters and their catchments. Developed, planned, managed construction of initial park management features including gazebos, boardwalks, signage and limestone pathways for Len Howard Park (Peel Inlet).

Program Management - I have managed and reported on several multi-million dollar programs

including those related to the Dawesville Channel, Swan-Canning Cleanup Program, Coastal Catchment Initiative Peel-Harvey, and Environmental Management Plan – State Environmental (Cockburn Sound) Policy (2005 & 2013) for Cockburn Sound Management Council and Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation.

Investigations - Fish Kill Incident reporting and investigations throughout Western Australia, grey sands

of Owen Anchorage, contaminants in marine waters and sediments, metal contaminants in select south-western fish and decapods, contaminant survey for greater Cockburn Sound and its catchments, assessing efficacy of remote sampling techniques to measure and detect changes in environmental assets and following events and the practicality and effectiveness of using diffuse membrane passive samplers for

organic contaminants in Swan-Canning drains. Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting - Cockburn Sound Environmental Quality Monitoring Program,

Swan-Canning nutrient monitoring and reporting, Peel-Harvey monitoring and reporting before and after the Dawesville Channel opened (Five Year) and the initial Marine Water Quality Monitoring Program for Fremantle Ports, Perth.

Sampling Analysis Plans - Nokanena Battery (lead-zinc and silver) heavy metal contamination study

in the Nokanena Brook and Bowes River, a range of environmental monitoring programs for Cockburn Sound, river intervention trials in the Swan and Canning rivers including use of soil amendments in the Canning River incorporating QA/QC procedures and components, Lake Richmond drainage and metal

survey.

Research - Fish stress biomarkers, identifying and measuring contaminants of concern, seagrass

restoration, influence of temperature on coastal marine organisms and vulnerability, risk and adaptation to sea level rise in the southern metropolitan coastal waters, benthic changes following the opening of the Dawesville Channel. Hazardous Materials and Crisis Management - Oil Spill Response Training and responses Peel-Harvey and Cockburn Sound, Nodularia and Lyngbya blooms Peel-Harvey, Swan Microcystis Bloom water quality reporting and response management, aquaculture disease and infectious control crisis management training and Greenough River Estuary Fish Kill.

Environmental Report Card Development and Reporting - Cockburn Sound Management

Council annual reporting and Swan River Trust performance reporting and community news reporting for the Murray River including use of trend tables and risk maps.

Environmental Impact Assessment - Mangles Bay PER, James Point Private Port (Stage I and II),

Port Rockingham Marina, New Gen Power Station, CSBP Prill (ammonia nitrate) Plant, Ascot Waters, Claise Brook, Duchess Paradise and Dawesville Channel and also numerous reviews and contributions to Environmental Scoping Documents.

Academic, Communication and Peer Review - Four Honours, two Masters and three PhDs and

have reviewed six scientific papers on benthic ecology, estuarine and nematode biology, ecology, fish kill incidents, nutrient and contaminant export from industrial and commercial estates and nutrient loss from urban environments and endocrine disrupting chemicals including over three dozen technical in-house departmental reports.

Publications, Lectures, Presentations and Briefings - I have written over twenty papers, three

chapters, provided over twenty university lectures and over 50 work related presentations for Dawesville Channel and Peel Inlet Management Authority, Swan-Canning Cleanup Program, fish kills, changing paradigms for estuarine and coastal understanding, restoration, water quality, environmental policy and issues affecting Cockburn Sound Management Council.

Communication and Science Skills - Media releases, speeches, interviews, facilitated workshops,

campaigns and community forums discussing science, environmental issues and small to large scale restoration, local environmental policies and environmental management. Facebook and web site use, design and review, posters, figurative maps and report cards on environmental health. Badging and logos. Ribbons of Blue, Environment Education Association [sic] and High Schools and University presentations on science, environment, monitoring and restoration. Have written and edited technical and community education brochure series in collaboration with media staff for Dawesville Channel and Swan-Canning Cleanup program-Swan Canning estuarine system.
