Grants Issued Since it was founded in 1997 the Trust has pledged grants totalling £2,478,633.34 to nine hundred and four projects. An analysis of the awards by area since 1997 is attached as Appendix A. This year the Trustees considered one hundred and ten applications and pledged a total of £172,213.32 to ninety community projects (£192,484.85 to seventy-two projects in 2008/09). An analysis of the grants awarded in 2009/010, and the geographical distribution, is attached as Appendix B. Publicity We encourage and assist successful applicants to promote their grant through the local media and in their own newsletters and publications. Over the last year we attended eleven celebrations or opening events (thirteen in 2008/09). We have also received positive publicity for our grants in the local media and newsletters with regard to other successful projects. This grass-roots coverage within local communities is welcome and valuable promotion for the Trust Fund. Shown below are two of the celebration events we attended.

Knutsford Community Transport Association. A grant of £3000 was

awarded towards the purchase of a community minibus used by local

groups. Councillor Stockton, Trustee for Cheshire East is seen handing over the keys on behalf of all contributors.

Wythenshawe Cricket Club Juniors

received a grant of £850 to purchase mush needed training equipment

items. Members from the club can be seen here with some of those items.

The PR Plan devised in 2007/08 to increase awareness of the MACTF continues to evolve. New areas of publicity are being sought in order to: -

o Increase the number of applications o Increase awareness of the positive impacts the Manchester Airport

Community Trust Fund has on the local community. A Community Relations Roadshow was held in November 2009 to promote the Trust Fund to employees. This was the first ever roadshow of its kind. The Trust is promoted in the Community Relations quarterly e-newsletter, which is sent to approximately 12,500 people each time. The newsletter is in its twenty-third edition. The Community e-newsletter specific to Wythenshawe continues to receive popular feedback. Distribution has steadily increased since the newsletter was first produced in January 2008. This currently stands at approximately 2000. The Administrator attended the following publicity events on behalf of the MACTF: -

Trafford Funding Fair, St John’s Centre, Old Trafford. Organised by Voluntary Community Action Trafford (VCAT). Funding Presentation and workshop with fundraisers, VCAT HQ, Sale Presentation to the Stockport Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) Funding Fair, Wythenshawe Forum. Organised by The Nova Scarman

Trust Funding Fair, Cross Street Chapel, Manchester. Organised by The Gio

Project. BME Funding Fair, Old Trafford Community Centre

In addition, the Trust is promoted as part of the ongoing Community Relations Outreach Programme. This included the weekly sessions at Knutsford Library, a stand at the 2-day Cheshire Show (Tabley Showground) in June 2009 and the 2009/10 Outreach Programmes which included Knutsford (Longridge), Hale, Edgeley, Bredbury, Wythenshawe, and Mere. Applications were made directly as a result of the Outreach events.

Targets for the Future The online application facility is now an established way of applying to the Community Trust Fund. The number of online applications has increased throughout the year and the long-term aim to phase out the written application process, making the online facility the sole option. This is in line with other funding providers. A 2nd Community Relations roadshow will be held in 2010/11 to once again promote the fund to Airport employees. The Administrator and Trustees will continue to promote the fund externally. Conclusion In the last year we were able to pledge over £172K to ninety organisations in the area of benefit. The chairman would like to thank his fellow Trustees and acknowledge the financial and administrative support of Manchester Airport. In the coming year, donations will total £2.5 million.

The Community Relations Team, engaging with adults and young

people at the Cheshire Show in June 2009. Children had the chance to

carry out interactive activities such as electronic educational games and

design a figure to play a penalty shoot out game. The Airport fire fighters also

brought an appliance.
