Replacing Nauticast AIS to Comnav Voyager X3 AIS

1. This procedure will be re-using the Nauticast AIS junction box for the ease of replacement to a Comnav Voyager X3. It is assumed that the existing antenna cables and antennas are in working condition.

2. Power down the Nauticast AIS completely.

3. Open the Nauticast AIS junction box and as specified in previous emails, there are three cables going into the junction box and terminated at CH1, CH2 and CH4

4. Remove the black connector and all the power cables as shown in the picture below

5. Then remove the Nauticast AIS’s VHF and GPS antenna cable from the pigtail.

6. Now, you can remove the Nauticast AIS along with the 50pins cable and the antenna pigtail. You will now be left with the Nauticast Junction box.

7. Proceed to mount the Comnav AIS display and the new junction box and connect them together with the supplied black cable, taking into consideration the lengths of the cables.

8. Connect the new VHF pigtail supplied to the Comnav AIS and connect the VHF antenna cable to the pigtail

9. Connect the GPS antenna cable to the Comnav AIS

10.Connect the power cable supplied to the Comnav AIS. Connect the other end of the power cable brown and black to the terminal of the Nauticast junction box as indicated below.

11.There will be 3 grey cables coming out from the Comnav junction box and labeled as CH1, CH2 and CH4. Each wire of each cable is labeled accordingly. Please terminate them accordingly into the Nauticast junction box. Refer to below for information.

12.You can now switch on the power supply for the Comnav AIS the same way you would do so for the old Nauticast AIS

13.Wait for approx 5mins after power on, the Comnav AIS display should show the same as below if the polarity of the terminations are correct for the grey cables

14.Press the “Screen” softkey repeatedly until the ALARMS page is shown. There should be no alarms and as shown below

15. If there is EPFS related alarm or the top right corner of the display is shown INT GPS, that means the external GPS NMEA signal is not coming into the Comnav AIS, probably due to polarity not correct for the associated grey cable. Try to swap the brown and white wire of the GPS grey cable.

16. If there is ROT or heading related alarm, try also to swap the brown and white wire of the Gyro grey cable.

17.There is a GPS antenna and cable supplied together. If the existing does not work, you may wish to temporary connect these to the Comnav AIS to see if it solves the internal GPS problem. If it does, then make permanent installation of the cable and antenna as necessary.
