Philosophy on Professional Nursing

Caring is the essence of nursing. Having compassion and empathy for those in need is an essential quality a nurse must possess. Nurses must be respectful of patient’s decisions and culturally sensitive to the diverse community we provide care for. We are not merely care givers. We embody comfort, are teachers, offer an ear to listen, a hand to hold, and a shoulder to cry on. We don’t treat the symptoms, we treat the whole patient. We also offer support for families for they can need our help as much as the patient does. As I transition from RN to FNP, I still hold the above philosophy, but now I have the responsibility of being the primary care giver. I will rely on my increased knowledge and skill set to diagnose and treat a variety of patients and their families while always holding myself to the highest standards so I can give the best and safest care possible.
