This document contains important information about this release. Be sure to provide this information to all users before proceeding with the installation.

NOTE: This document uses the term “E-41A” to refer to the Color Controller E-41A.

Installing software Installing system software

After you insert the System Software DVD into the E-41A and perform a restart to begin system software installation, the following message appears on the Control Panel: “All data will be deleted. Press Yes button to continue installation.” You must press the Yes button twice to continue installation.

Installation stopped at Step 2

If the E-41A stops processing during Step 2 of system software installation, cancel the installation, reset the BIOS time to the current time, and then restart the installation.

Installing and uninstalling ICC profiles on Windows

On Windows Vista, if you right-click an ICC profile that is installed at C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color, Install Profile displays in the shortcut menu, even though the profile is already installed.

On Windows XP, if you right-click an ICC profile that is installed at C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color and choose Uninstall Profile from the shortcut menu, the ICC profile is not uninstalled. You must remove the file manually.

System Fiery Clone Tool

When the Fiery Clone Tool is used to restore the image from a DVD, the displayed image name is not correct.

Sample Print configuration

You cannot specify a setting for the Sample Print Content option from Configure > Server > Jobs > Sample Print. The fixed selection “Sheet (for any kind of job)” is the only setting available. Disregard Configure Help, which states that you can specify the type of job for your sample print from the Content option.

Changing the date

When the date is changed in Command WorkStation Configure, the connection between Command WorkStation and the E-41A is lost. To avoid this, change the date in WebTools Configure.

Page 2

Date change causes shut down

If the year is changed to 2037 or later in Configure, the E-41A shuts down unexpectedly and cannot be restarted. The only way to recover from this state is to manually reset the date in the BIOS.

Fatal message when hard disk drive is full

If the hard disk drive on the E-41A does not have enough available space for incoming jobs, a FATAL message is displayed, instead of a warning message that the disk is full, which should be displayed. Delete any unnecessary print jobs that are stored on the hard disk.

Delay in E-41A startup

The E-41A performs a file check on the hard disk at startup. If many files are stored on the hard disk, the E-41A takes extra time to start up. To reduce startup time, delete any unnecessary print jobs from the hard disk.

If the system has not started 5 minutes after the power button on the front of the E-41A is pressed, press the power button again, one time only.

Printing jobs when hard disk capacity is insufficient

When the available space on the E-41A hard disk is insufficient, the system may not operate normally. Make sure that enough memory is available.

If the available hard disk space is insufficient and the system fails to operate normally, cycle power on the E-41A and the copier/printer, and then delete any unnecessary print jobs that are stored on the hard disk.

User names with LDAP enabled

When LDAP is enabled, enter LDAP user names in WebTools Configure with the domain name first, followed by the user name. For example, if the user name is “Joesmith” and the domain is “EFI,” the user must enter “EFI\Joesmith.” If the user name is not accepted in this format, for instance, when logging on to Fiery Remote Scan, the user must enter the user name without the domain, for example, “Joesmith.”

Length of User Name

A User Name entered in Users and Groups in Configure should be between 1 and 64 characters, although other applications such as the printer driver may allow more than 64 characters in the User Name text field.

E-41A User Authentication

If the E-41A is configured for User Authentication and you print a color document in Color Mode as a user with only black-and-white printing privileges, the document is printed in black and white.

Page 3

System Updates and printing

System Updates reboots the E-41A, regardless of any job that might be printing. Make sure to schedule System Updates to run at a time when no jobs are printing.

Direct connection limitations

Jobs or job-related information sent to the Direct connection are not saved to the hard disk. With the Direct connection, jobs or page rasters cannot be saved to disk. Therefore, any operation that requires disk access is not possible. These operations include:

• Spooling for PDF jobs

PDF jobs must be saved to disk, as the E-41A must have random access to the file. Most PDF jobs cannot be processed as a stream of data like PostScript. PDF jobs sent to the Direct connection from Command WorkStation or the printer driver are redirected to the Print queue.

• Direct connection printing for VDP jobs

VDP jobs sent to the Direct connection are redirected to the Print queue. For more information, see Variable Data Printing, which is part of the user documentation set.

• Reverse order printing for large jobs

Reverse order printing requires RIPping the entire job before printing.

• Collation for large jobs

Collation is not supported, for the same reason that reverse order printing is not supported. Note that the E-41A automatically disables Collation for jobs printed to the Direct connection.

• FreeForm jobs, including the following print options:

– Booklet Maker

– Combine Separations

– Page Order

– Duplex

– Collate

– Create Master

– Use Master

Page 4

Microsoft Hotfix

If you observe one or more of the following issues, contact Microsoft to apply the appropriate Hotfix.

• You configure User Authentication from the Control Panel to restrict the printing of color jobs, but color jobs are printed.

• You print a job from Microsoft Excel 2007, and the pages are blank, even though the same job printed correctly from Microsoft Excel 2003.

Installable Options Setting up Installable Options in printer drivers

To view the correct installed options in Point and Print printer drivers, you must set up the E-41A.

TO SET UP THE E-41A TO VIEW INSTALLABLE OPTIONS

1 Log on to the E-41A using Windows XP Remote Desktop.

For information about enabling Remote Desktop, see Configuration and Setup.

2 On the Start menu, click Printers and Faxes.

3 Double-click the Print icon.

4 Choose Printer > Properties.

5 Click the Installable Options tab.

6 Verify that the Printer IP Address or DNS Name is localhost.

7 Click Update.

8 Click OK to close the Printer Properties dialog box.

9 Repeat steps 3–7 to set up the Hold queue and set up Direct connection printing.

For more information about configuring and setting up the E-41A, see Configuration and Setup.

Input/output trays Printing on different media

If you print a job for which the specified media is not loaded in any tray, and then select the specific tray at the Control Panel when the copier/printer requests you to load the media, the copier/printer prints all copies of the job.

Input Tray

The Input Tray option appears blank if you select Command WorkStation Job Properties on a job that was sent from Adobe PageMaker 7 with default print properties.

Page 5

Interposer tray

NOTE: This feature is not supported for the Japanese version of the product.

The copier/printer may not automatically detect the paper size designated for the Interposer Upper tray. This may occur if the copier/printer is configured for a particular region, for example, EU or North America. If the copier/printer does not detect paper size automatically, you must specify the paper size for the Interposer tray in the printer driver paper settings.

Alternate tray must have same feed direction

The E-41A will not switch to an alternate tray (for example, when the current tray runs out of paper) if the alternate tray does not feed paper in the same direction as the current paper tray, even if the paper size and paper type are the same.

Stapling with mixed page orientations

Before printing a stapled job that contains both Portrait and Landscape pages, set Bypass Tray Priority on the Control Panel to the input tray that is set for LEF (Long Edge Feed).

Printing Default button does not restore default setting

Clicking the Default button in PostScript printer drivers and in Command WorkStation Job Properties does not restore the default values of some print options.

Printing N-up job

Page count for a N-up job on the Control Panel and Command WorkStation does not operate correctly.

Tray Alignment with stapling

Tray Alignment does not work as expected when Staple is set to Top Right Auto.

Job outputs to different tray than specified

If the printer driver is installed on a Windows client computer locally, and a valid E-41A IP address/name is entered on the Ports tab manually, Two-Way Communication is turned on automatically. However, the installed finishers may not function correctly, and you may find that your job outputs to a different tray than specified.

As a workaround, click the Printer Properties/Installable Options tab in the printer driver, click Update, and then click the OK or Apply button once. This ensures that the installed finishers information retrieved via Two-Way Communication is correctly saved in the printer driver.

Page 6

Separator Page

The separator page feature is not supported for the E-41A.

Note the following limitations:

• The separator page does not work correctly with N-up, Booklet, and Gang-up jobs.

• The separator page does not output to the Shift Tray with stapled jobs if default output tray is set to the Upper tray.

• When you insert a new page through New Insert in a Mixed Media job, an extra page or sheet may be inserted.

• When you define a front or back cover through Define Cover in a Mixed Media job, an extra page or sheet may be inserted.

• The content of the first page of a FreeForm job is printed on the separator page (the first page content and the separator page content overlap).

2-up SEF with Staple

If you print a 2-up job on SEF paper with the Staple option set to Top Left Auto, the job is stapled Top Right Vertical. If you print the same job with the Staple option set to Top Right Auto, the job is stapled Bottom Right Slanted. These results might not match the image shown in Job Properties for the staple position.

Color printing counts

Even when printing with only one color, such as magenta, the E-41A may perform a full color count. To count by single colors (C, M, Y, K), set the Print by Color Selection option to select the color(s).

Number of copies in non-collated jobs

For non-collated jobs with multiple copies, the number of copies displayed in Command WorkStation and on the Control Panel is not increased until the copies of the last page are printing. However, since the display is updated at a specific time interval, you might not see every copy number. For example, the display might jump from 1 copy to 4 copies.

PDF job with non-embedded fonts does not print correctly

In Command WorkStation, a PDF job that contains non-embedded fonts might not print correctly or might cause the E-41A to close unexpectedly when the job is printed. To print the job, use the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) feature.

Page 7

TO PRINT A JOB USING THE ADOBE PDF PRINT ENGINE (APPE) FEATURE

1 If the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) feature is not already enabled on the E-41A, start Configure and select the Enable Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) option in the PDL settings.

2 In Command WorkStation, select the job and open Job Properties.

3 Select the Adobe PDF Print Engine Preferred option,

4 Print the job.

Printing with Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE)

When you print with the Enable Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) option selected, RIPping may take longer than expected, and images may not print correctly. If this occurs, disable the option and try reprinting the job.

Deleting documents in Document Server

Do not delete any documents stored in the Document Server during printing.

Document Server out of space

When you continuously store new files in the Document Server, an error message might not appear when the available space on the Document Server becomes full. In this case, use the Control Panel to access the Document Server function and delete unnecessary files.

Before storing files in the Document Server, access the Document Server function from the Control Panel and check the remaining available space in the Memory item.

Printing from a USB device

Automatic printing from a USB device does not work if the USB device is already connected to the E-41A when the E-41A starts up. You must connect the USB device to the E-41A after the E-41A reaches Idle.

Mismatch Action set to Suspend for a large job

When the Mismatch Action option is set to Suspend, if the paper required for a job is not loaded in the copier/printer and the job is greater than 500 pages, an error message appears in Command WorkStation and on the Control Panel. However, it takes time to display the message and the E-41A will not reboot.

Error during Sample Print

If the copier/printer runs out of paper or a paper jam occurs while printing a Sample Print, the sample page will not be output even after the error has been corrected.

Mixed Media finishing sets with Insert Blank

If you specify finishing sets for each chapter in a stapled Mixed Media job, and then insert a blank page before each selected chapter, the job is output with the wrong stapling sets.

Page 8

Mixed Media for RIPped print job

When the Mixed Media option is set for a RIPped print job, changing the Job Properties causes the job to be reRIPped, even if the type of change does not normally require reRIPping, such as changing the number of prints.

Duplex printing and orientation

In applications that use a PPD, such as Adobe PageMaker, if print orientation is set to Landscape, and two-sided printing (duplex) is turned on, the data may not print in the selected orientation. To print two-sided, Landscape documents, use the following procedure.

TO PRINT DUPLEXED LANDSCAPE DOCUMENTS

1 Print the document to the E-41A Hold queue.

2 In Command WorkStation, double-click the job to display Job Properties.

3 In the Layout tab, set the Orientation Override option to match the orientation of the job that you want to print.

4 Print the job.

Orientation Override and PDF jobs

To print a PDF job with a Landscape orientation, do not set the Orientation Override option to Landscape in Job Properties. The PDF job already specifies Landscape orientation and will print correctly.

Job List screen

If more than one job is scheduled that includes printing and copying, do not use the Job List screen.

Command WorkStation

Custom page size is displayed incorrectly

If the page size of a PDF job is the smallest custom page size and the job is imported into Command WorkStation, the page size displayed for the job list is different from the actual page size.

Quick Doc Merge jobs

If Quick Doc Merge is performed for a job that contains print data in the Landscape orientation, the data prints correctly, but it does not display properly in the Impose Thumbnail view.

Rush Printing

If Rush Printing is selected when a job is processing (RIPping), the Rush Printing job starts after the first job is processed.

Page 9

Print Next behavior

The Print Next feature does not behave as expected. Any job selected to Print Next should print after the one that is currently printing, but the job prints after all print jobs in the queue.

Activity list

In Command WorkStation, if more than one job has Printing status and you cancel one of the jobs by right-clicking the job from the Activity list, the wrong job might be canceled. Instead, cancel the job from the Active Jobs area (right-click the job and choose Cancel).

Applications Printing custom page size from Microsoft Word 2003

When the print size in a Microsoft Word 2003 file is set to custom page size, the content on the output may be in the wrong location. The size set in the Word Page Setup dialog box overrides the size set in the printer driver. To print a custom document size from Word on a custom paper size, you must set the Page Size in the Word Page Setup dialog box to the custom size that you want for your final output.

Microsoft Excel

If you print to A4 paper size from Excel (2003 or 2007), the application might automatically resize your job to Letter size. If the job includes Ring Binder finishing (using the Ring Bind and Ring Bind Edge print options), a Ring Binder error might be generated. If the application automatically resizes your job, turn off the appropriate resizing option:

• Excel 2003: Clear the “Allow A4/Letter paper resizing” option under Tools > Options on the International tab.

• Excel 2007: Clear the “Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11'' paper sizes” option in Excel Options > Advanced under the General heading.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

When you print a job from PowerPoint 2007 and choose Notes Pages from the “Print what” menu, the job might take a long time to print.

Custom Size printing from Adobe Photoshop

The image orientation of a Custom Size job rotates when it is printed from Photoshop.

Printing Adobe Acrobat PDF jobs with inserted blank pages

When you print a Landscape PDF job that has an inserted blank page before page 1, the job is printed with Portrait orientation, and may not be stapled correctly. This is a known issue with Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9.

Page 10

In Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9, orientation is set to Portrait, even if you change the document’s orientation to Landscape in Adobe Acrobat Page Setup. In Adobe Acrobat 10, the orientation value is correctly set to Landscape.

If the job is properly set up as Landscape in Adobe Acrobat Page Setup, the inserted blank page before page 1 is Landscape, and the job is printed correctly.

Printing jobs from Adobe InDesign

When you print a Landscape job from InDesign with SEF (Short Edge Feed) paper specified, the job is rotated 180 degrees. If the job is processed and held in Command WorkStation and then previewed, the job has the correct rotation. This is a known issue with InDesign.

Adobe PageMaker

When you open Job Properties in Command WorkStation for a job printed with the PageMaker PPD, specified values may not display correctly.

Printing Adobe Acrobat files from PCL printer driver

NOTE: This feature is not supported for the Japanese version of the product.

If you use the PCL 6 printer driver to print Adobe Acrobat PDF files by specifying Custom Paper Size, files are rotated 90 degrees when they are printed.

To make sure that the files are printed facing in the correct direction, switch the Width and Length values for Custom Paper Size in the printer driver, and then print the files.

If you are using Adobe Acrobat 8 or later, specify the same size for Document and Paper, which are displayed in Preview: Composite in the Print dialog box.

If you use the PCL printer driver to print Adobe Acrobat 8 files with Portrait orientation content from the LEF (Long Edge Feed) tray, the output is rotated 180 degrees.

Adobe Acrobat Page Scaling

In Acrobat 7 or 8, if the Page Scaling option is set to “Shrink oversized pages to paper size” and “Auto-rotate and center pages” is selected, some data may not be printed. To avoid this problem, access the printer driver and select Scale to Fit on the Layout tab before printing.

Print options Half z-fold

The following table describes printed results with various combinations of Portrait and Landscape orientations, A3 and A4 paper sizes, and Half z-fold settings. Results may vary, depending on your operating system and the application that you are using. Some combinations of settings are not supported.

Booklet printing Printing a Grayscale booklet from Hot Folders

When a booklet is printed from Hot Folders with Color Mode set to Grayscale, the first page prints in color. By default, the Color Mode for the cover is CMYK. As a workaround, set the Color Mode in the Define Cover dialog box to Grayscale, and then the entire booklet is printed in Grayscale.

Nested Saddle booklet

If you print a Nested Saddle booklet, the booklet is composed of complete saddles (you set the size of the saddle by setting “Number of sheets in a subset”). This may cause blank pages to be added to the end of the booklet, depending on the number of pages in the document.

Limitations of Booklet Maker

The following are limitations of Booklet Maker:

• The Scale and Scale to Fit options (on the Layout tab of the Job Properties window) are not applicable when using Booklet Maker settings for a job.

• Booklet Maker settings cannot be specified for an Adobe PDF file with security settings.

Cover and body with different feed directions

In a booklet job, if the cover and body pages are assigned to Paper Catalog entries that have different feed directions (SEF or LEF), an error message appears.

Saddle with Pre-Printed cover

If you print a Saddle booklet with a Pre-Printed cover and the specified paper is not available, a message appears at the copier/printer that requests LEF paper. However, if duplex printing is not allowed for the specified paper size in LEF, an alert appears and you must cancel the job.

Job Properties Print settings appear twice

In the E-41A printer driver > Printing Preferences, the media type and weight are displayed twice on the Fiery Printing tab.

Job Properties and Pages Per Sheet

In Job Properties, the Pages Per Sheet settings in the Layout window are unavailable, except for 1, but you can select an unavailable setting. If you click OK in the dialog box that appears, the setting is no longer unavailable.

Job Properties of queued jobs

When you display the Job Properties of a queued job in Command WorkStation for which the paper is specified as the custom paper size, the width and height of the paper size might not display correctly. However, the job prints correctly.

Mac OS X Number of characters in Notes on Mac OS X

NOTE: This issue occurs only in the Japanese version of the product.

In the Notes field in the Mac OS X printer or in Command WorkStation Job Properties on Mac OS X, the number of Japanese characters allowed is 30 or fewer. If you enter 31 characters, there is no way to edit or delete characters using the space bar or the Delete, Enter, or Backspace keys.

In Command WorkStation, the only way to delete or remove the characters is to click Cancel to close Job Properties, and then start over. In the printer driver, press any alphanumeric key, and then press the Delete key or right-click the character and choose Delete from the menu.

Page 14

Shortcut keys in Configure on Mac OS X

When copying and pasting text to fields in Configure on Mac OS X, you must use the Windows shortcut keys Ctrl + C (to copy) and Ctrl + V (to paste), instead of the Mac OS X shortcut keys (Apple + C, Apple + V).

Remote Scan, version 5.x on Mac OS X

To quit Remote Scan, version 5.x on a Mac OS X computer, click Close. You cannot quit the application from the main menu or by pressing Command+Q.

Paper Source on Mac OS X

In the Mac OS X printer driver, the Paper Source option does not select the input tray for printing. To select the input tray, choose Fiery Features > Full Properties and set the Input Tray option.

Mac OS X printer driver and number of copies

In the Mac OS X printer driver, the Copies field in the Job Info window of Fiery Features is read-only. To change the number of copies, select Copies & Pages from the printer driver main window (instead of Fiery Features).

Printing with Mac OS X v10.3.9

In Mac OS X v10.3.9, the Full Properties button does not appear on the Print dialog box, which means that you cannot set some print options when printing from an application on Mac OS X v10.3.9.

As a workaround, print the job to the Hold queue and set the print options in Command WorkStation Job Properties. Alternatively, print the job from Windows or a later version of Mac OS, if available.

Using Bonjour without a DHCP server

If you create a printer via Bonjour on a network that does not have a DHCP server, be sure to assign a fixed IP address to the client computer.

Bonjour on Mac OS X v10.5

When printing from a Mac OS X v10.5 printer driver, be sure to select Two-Way Communication in the Fiery Features dialog box and type the correct IP address for the E-41A.

Paper Catalog Registering new catalog entries

When you create a new catalog entry in Paper Catalog in Command WorkStation, the name must not exceed 38 characters. If you enter a name with more than 38 characters, only the first 38 characters are registered.

Page 15

Custom page size in Paper Catalog

A custom page size may be displayed differently in Paper Catalog and in Job Properties. If the two page sizes are within +/- 3 points in measurement, they are considered the same page size. Job Properties displays the page size accurately. This may be seen most often at the extremes of the range, in the minimum and maximum paper sizes.

Paper Catalog tray association fails

In Command WorkStation, if you try to change the Paper Catalog association of any tray while a job is printing, the reassociation fails and the tray association is removed from the Paper Catalog entry. A message in Command WorkStation informs you that the association failed.

To avoid this situation, always wait until printing finishes before changing tray associations in Paper Catalog.

Scanning Internet Fax with Japanese subject

NOTE: This issue occurs only in the Japanese version of the product.

When a scan that contains Japanese characters in the subject field is sent from Fiery Remote Scan to Internet Fax, the fax received displays the subject as garbled, and not Japanese characters.

Scan to SMB

For scanning to SMB, you cannot use a shared folder that has double-byte characters in the folder name. If you do, scanning fails. Instead, use alphanumeric characters for the folder name.

Scan original size not detected

If you initiate a scan after the E-41A and the copier/printer have just been powered on, and an error of “the original size can't be detected” occurs, lift and reset the ADF on the copier/printer, and then retry the scan.

File name restriction for Fiery Remote Scan on Mac OS X

NOTE: This issue occurs only in the Japanese version of the product.

When you use Fiery Remote Scan on Mac OS X, pressing Enter for the Japanese character conversion of the file name causes scanning to begin immediately.

Fiery Remote Scan proxy port

In WebTools > Configure > Network > Services > Scan > Port, the default value is “0”. It should be blank. The Fiery Remote Scan Proxy Port number is 21.

Page 16

Entering file names on Mac OS X

When Fiery Remote Scan is used on Mac OS X v10.6 to initiate a scan, the filename/mailbox text fields may not always be selectable. However, a file name is automatically assigned.

Maximum Quality scan with Adobe Acrobat

When Fiery Remote Scan is started from Acrobat, the Maximum Quality setting produces a smaller than expected file size. When Fiery Remote Scan is started independently, the Maximum Quality setting produces the expected large file size. We recommend that you use Fiery Remote Scan without Acrobat if you require a Maximum Quality scan.

Scan paper size may display differently

A scan job set to 297mm x 432mm paper size and 100 dpi may display in Command WorkStation with increased length and width (298.45mm x 432.51mm). This may occur for other scan jobs.

Default scan file format values

The default scan file format values for Remote Scan and the Scan tab in the Control Panel are as follows:

Split Mode with Remote Scan

When you use Split Mode settings with Remote Scan, Remote Scan may not complete the scan. To complete the scan job, press the # key on the copier/printer Control Panel.

Remote Scan in Adobe Acrobat 8

If you scan an image in Acrobat 8 on Mac OS X using the Remote Scan plug-in and the resulting image is truncated on the right, scan with the Make Searchable and Make Accessible (Run OCR) option cleared.

Missing content in Adobe Acrobat 8

When the Fiery Remote Scan plug-in is used with Acrobat 8 or later, part of the scanned image may be missing.

Page 17

Remote Scan character limits

Some of the character limits described in Fiery Remote Scan Help are incorrect. The correct limits are as follows:

• In Windows, you can enter up to 216 single-byte characters for the file name (or 215 single-byte characters if an extension is displayed in the File Name field).

• In Mac OS, you can enter up to 255 single-byte characters for the file name.

• When you scan a hard disk, if the file name is omitted, no hard disk scan is performed.

• You can enter up to 32 bytes for the FTP site log-on password.

• You can enter up to 80 single-byte characters for the Subject in an e-mail scan or Internet fax description.

• You can enter up to 32,767 single-byte characters in an e-mail scan message.

Maximum scan size

The maximum scan file size is 2 GB. If you scan a document that results in a file larger than 2 GB, no error message is displayed in Remote Scan or on the Control Panel. The scan file is created, but the file size is 0 bytes. If you scan a document with a file size of 2 GB or larger and send it to the FTP site or to a hard disk over the network, the file is not sent, and no error message is displayed. In addition, it is not displayed in the Command WorkStation Print queue.

System Settings not available while scanning

When the copier/printer is scanning, the User Tools button on the Control Panel is unavailable and you cannot access the System Settings display. You must wait for the scan to complete.

Editing FTP Proxy settings

In Remote Scan on Mac OS X, if you edit the FTP Proxy settings to turn off the Use Default Port option, the cursor becomes active in both the Proxy User Name and Proxy Password fields. You can move the active cursor by clicking another field.

Scanning compressed jobs with the Remote Scan plug-in

When Color Mode is set to Black and White with the Remote Scan plug-in, a scanned job is not compressed, even if the Compression setting is selected.

SeeQuence Suite Use Non-Printable area

The E-41A does not support the “Use Non-printable area” option in the Scale settings in SeeQuence Impose. Therefore, no difference occurs in Preview or in the printed output, whether the check box is selected or not.

Fold marks for gangup jobs

Fold marks are not currently available for gangup jobs in SeeQuence Impose, although you can specify them. Even though you specify fold marks, they do not appear in Preview or in the printed output.

Incorrect values for gutter setting allowed

In SeeQuence Impose, when entering values into the Gutter field, you can enter values between -1000 and 1000 inches. However, the range of valid values is between 0 and 10 inches.

Impose on Document Server

You cannot save an imposed job in Document Server. Document Server does not support Impose.

Imposed PDF files

Imposed PDF files may not print properly when you use the Archive Adobe PDF to Disk feature. The duplex settings may not be applied to the job.

List View not available in SeeQuence Preview

The Help for SeeQuence Preview refers to List View, an alternative way of viewing pages in the Page View pane as a list in text format. List View is no longer available. Pages are displayed as thumbnails in the Page View pane.

Saving APPE jobs in SeeQuence Impose

When you impose a job in SeeQuence Impose with APPE (Adobe PDF Print Engine) selected in Job Properties, and save the job, you cannot go back and make further imposition changes to the imposed job. The default for saving APPE imposed jobs is as a flattened PDF, which does not allow further changes.

If you are not satisfied with the imposition choices you made, start over with the original job.

NOTE: If you save the job in .dbp format, you can make further imposition changes, but the job is RIPped as a PostScript job, not as an APPE job.

Job name maximum length for SeeQuence Impose

In SeeQuence Impose, you can enter a maximum of 132 characters for the job name. Otherwise, SeeQuence Impose might not start for the job.

Using Gangup styles with Gangup methods for VDP jobs in Impose

In the SeeQuence Suite section of Command WorkStation Help, the table showing gangup styles with gangup methods for VDP jobs is incorrect. Use the following table as a reference for the styles that can be used with gangup methods for VDP jobs.

The only layout style supported for VDP gangup repeat jobs is the Standard layout. All layout styles for non-VDP jobs in PostScript or PDF format submitted to Command WorkStation through the Import function or the printer driver are supported. For jobs submitted through Hot Folders, Impose cannot distinguish between VDP and non-VDP jobs, so the only gangup repeat style supported for both VDP and non-VDP jobs is Standard.

Free Form and Impose

NOTE: This issue occurs only in the Japanese version of the product.

When you impose a Free Form job (master plus variable data) and then view the processed and held version of the job in Preview, Japanese characters appear garbled. This is a known issue of Adobe Acrobat.

Virtual printers Document Size unavailable when Output Paper Size is locked in virtual printer

If the Output Paper Size option is locked in the properties of a virtual printer, and you print to this virtual printer using a printer driver that was installed using Point and Print, the Document Size option in the printer driver is unavailable.

Printing from a Point and Print driver

When you print to a virtual printer installed with Point and Print, you must open the Printing Preferences window and click OK before the job is printed. This applies the virtual printer settings to the job.

WebTools Downloading a large file to WebTools Docs

When you download a file of 1 GB or larger to WebTools Docs, a “MyDocs Service is down” message is displayed. As a workaround, use Fiery Bridge to download large files.

WebTools Downloads

When you download Windows software from WebTools Downloads, the name of the software may not display properly if the language differs from the current language configuration of the E-41A. In this case, install the required software from the User Software DVD.

Java Runtime Environment with WebTools

If you start WebTools with Internet Explorer from a Windows 2008 computer without first installing Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Internet Explorer may appear blank, and will not prompt you to install JRE. To avoid this, install JRE from the User Software DVD before you start WebTools. Additionally, WebTools Configure downloads JRE and runs as expected on Windows 2008 (32-bit) if the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is disabled.

Hot Folders Document name with double-byte characters

If you use Hot Folders to store a document in the Document Server and the document name contains double-byte characters (such as Japanese characters), the characters in the document name appear garbled on the Control Panel.

Backup and Restore

When you use the Backup and Restore function in Hot Folders, make sure that you log on with Administrator privileges, to ensure that you have write permission for the destination folder.

Online Help Browser versions

The Help files for the Fiery utilities are developed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.5 through v7.0. If you use other browsers, such as Safari or other versions of Internet Explorer, the Help might not display properly.

Pop-up blocker and script errors

If your browser uses a pop-up blocker, it may block Help files. If this occurs, temporarily disable your pop-up blocker to display Help files.

If your browser has the advanced Internet option enabled to display notifications about script errors, it might display a warning window before displaying a Help file. To avoid the warning window, clear the “Display a notification about every script error” option on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. A warning message might also appear in the Status bar, but the content of the Help file is not affected by this error.

Internet Explorer 8 and 9

When you display Help files for the E-41A utilities, all steps start with the number “1.” To view Help files correctly, use another browser or an earlier version of Internet Explorer.

Tab Printing Insert Tabs and Tab Shift

In Command WorkStation, if you use the Insert Tabs feature to add tab pages to a job and specify the text to be printed on the tab, you must also select the Tab Shift option on the Media tab in Job Properties. For more information about the Insert Tabs feature, see Utilities.

Printing text on a tab

When you print two lines of text on a tab, the second line of text may not print correctly. To avoid this problem, choose a smaller text size.
