Reflection
Cicero, the famous Roman senator and orator once wrote,
"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all
others." This Sunday's gospel narrative reminds us that gratitude is
a rare virtue indeed.
The virtue of gratitude is the ability to express our thankful
appreciation in word or deed, to the person whose words or actions
have benefited us in some way. The truly humble and noble person
will always be grateful for the benefits received. Ingratitude is an
ugly sin.
How can the virtue of gratitude be acquired? Fundamentally,
cultivating the spirit of gratitude requires us to develop humility.
We need to understand that everything that we have and everything
that we are is a gift. Homily from Fr James Fargaflia.

OVERSEAS VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY: The Cagliero Project, run by the Salesians of Don Bosco, gives Australians an opportunity to devote six to twelve months in volunteer service to youth in overseas Salesian communities. The Salesians are known for their work with vulnerable and disadvantaged youth. Therefore our volunteers are placed in projects such as schools, youth centers and orphanages. Our aim is to walk in solidarity with young people and for volunteer and host to have a mutual learning experience. We are also present in host communities to be role models, people that young people can aspire to be. The experience as a Cagliero volunteer is not about the volunteer but is focused on the people we go to serve. However, serving as a Cagliero volunteer will probably be the most rewarding thing you ever do! Applications for January 2017 departures are open until October 15th, 2016. Please visit www.cagliero.org.au for more information.

NEWS FROM OUR PARISH SCHOOL
Welcome to this busy term 4. I trust that all our families had a
safe and happy holiday and the children are ready and
excited to return to term 4. I encourage you all to visit the
parent portal and note the dates of important events coming up
this term like Grandparents’ Day, Orientation, Cocktail Party,
Christmas concert and Graduation. Excursions for classes
already planned will also be on that calendar. Late last term I
met with the parents who came along and gave their time to
help us review three of the components of our school’s life,
and the leadership team will meet soon with our Area
Supervisor to recognise what has been going well for us and
what we might need to do for a future goal.
Leadership team, working with BCE staff, will set goals later
this term for 2017, based on our reviews and on BCE strategic
directions.
Staffing
We welcome back to OLHC Scott Murphy, who had been
seconded to St Anthony’s at Alexandra Hills. I thank
Kylie-Jo Harvey for the excellent way she took on Scott’s
role here while he was away. We welcome also Kaitlyn
Hartley, who will be a prac teacher working with Katie
Wilson in the Yr 3 classroom for some time across this term.
P&F meeting
This coming Tuesday at 7:30pm in the hall our P&F will
meet. We will be organising the last few events of the year.
We will also be looking forward to 2017 and discussing
fundraising and projects to be undertaken. If you would like to
participate in the discussion, please come along. See you
there!
Congratulations
Our own Ruby Ingles had a very successful National
