ABOUT US: The Redondo Beach Veterans Memorial Task Force is a community based all volunteer organization comprised of local veterans and citizens. THE FUTURE: To continue to enhance and preserve in perpetuity this memorial honoring all past, present and future veterans of the United States of America. When brave men and women return from war and all the speeches fade. When flag draped caskets have been lowered and the final words prayed. There is a need for a special place to honor the memory and service all these fellow citizens made. Larry Futrell, US Navy Veteran HISTORY: Veterans Park at 309 The Esplanade in Redondo Beach was dedicated by the city council in 1930. The park is located on 6.3 acres of land, on the southwest ocean-facing side of Torrance Boulevard and Catalina Avenue just south of the Redondo Beach pier. Following approval of the conceptual design by the City Council to develop a park memorial honoring the service of our country’s veterans, the Redondo Beach Veterans Memorial Task Force was organized to raise money, design, and build the Memorial. The Memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day, 11 November 2011, and has served as the location of Redondo Beach’s Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations ever since.
