www.dpi.nsw.gov.au CONTROL AREA Following the detection of red imported fire ants at Port Botany, Sydney, the Department of Primary Industries has identified a control area to assist with ongoing surveillance and eradication efforts. The control area has been extended across a two kilometre radius from the initial detection site and includes port facilities, beaches, playgrounds, golf courses, cemeteries and more than 2000 residential homes. The control area gives greater powers to trained inspectors for a targeted surveillance program to be undertaken to ensure all possible fire ant habitats are checked. If you live within the control area you are asked to inspect your properties for any signs of red imported fire ant, and report any suspicious sightings to the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline on 1800 084 881. You must also be aware of movement restrictions that are now in place (overleaf ).
