Building healthy fun... by expanding recreation options for EVERYONE in the valley! We’re gearing up for the opening of Green Ridge Recreation Center in January 2010. This 75,000 square foot facility will be unlike anything else in the region, featuring family oriented indoor and outdoor aquatics, wellness and fitness areas, and program space for our fantastic lineup of offerings. In anticipation of the center’s opening, we’ve provided 6 pages of detailed information about Green Ridge and how you can be a part of it. While this guide lists all of our recreation pro-grams through the month of December, we’ll be adding a smaller supplemental edition of REConnection Magazine halfway through the Fall season to keep you up to date with our expanding programs. Look for the supplement in your mailboxes in late October or early November. Enjoy the guide and let us know if there’s something you’re interested in. We’re Your Recreation Connection!

When Does It Open? Splash Valley Water Park will begin operation the last week in May of 2010. Every year this outdoor water park will be open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Operating hours are 11:00am to 7:00pm, with early admission at 10:30am for County residents and “Super Splash” members. Splash Valley is located directly beside Roanoke County’s Green Ridge Recreation Center.

What’s Here? Splash Valley is set to be one of the region’s premiere outdoor aquatics attractions! Enjoy two 32 foot high water slides. The flume slide takes you on a longer journey down three and a half stories of enclosed curves. These slides are shown below. Splash Valley will also feature a unique aquatic playground with water cannons, spray features, and more. Grab a snack at the concessions area, or relax under one of the many shaded umbrellas at Splash Valley. Don’t forget, it’s a great place to take guests from out of town.

Students will learn what distinguishes an engineer from a producer and the role both of these individuals play in the record-ing process. The moves are practiced in a slow con-trolled fashion that builds strength as well as balance. T’ai Chi Chaun requires mindful concentration similar to medita-tion. The slow rhythmic movements re-lax the body and clear the mind. The movements are done with a feeling of buoyancy and lightness as if swimming in air. Christmas at Korner’s Folley, NC120 years ago, a dapper young man, Jule Gilmer Korner, broke ground on what he intended to be a showplace & a temporary home. He set out to create a combination bach-elor’s quarters, artist’studio, of-fice, billiard room, carriage house & stables. The eccentric structure offers 22 rooms spread out over three floors & seven levels, with ceiling heights ranging from six feet to 25 feet. It was a work-in-progress from the beginning. The Folly defies simple description. No two doorways are exactly alike & the 15 fireplaces have differing designs. You must see this home to believe it & the Christmas dec-orations make it that much more special. Also, a tour of Replace-ments, Ltd. in Greensboro. Learn how a small business started in an attic & grew into a facility the size of four football fields. Lunch is at the Fire Mountain Steakhouse. Fee includes breakfast biscuit, tour fees, lunch, escort. Bus departs Hollins Library at 7:00 AM returns 5:30 PM; departs Brambleton Center 7:30 AM returns 5:30 PM.
