Step by Step guide to setup Active Directory

on Windows Server 2008

This tutorial will explain how to install AD on server 2008. This will valid for windows 2008

R2 as well.

Requirement:

Minimum: Single processor with 1.4 GHz (x64 processor) or 1.3GHz (Dul !ore)

Minimum: "1# M$ %&M

Minimum: 3# G$ or greter

• The first step is to assin a ip to the server that !ou oin to deplo! the AD. "ts

nessar! to install it as D#S server too. So its $etter to have fixed ip it doesn%t mean

!ou cannot install AD without fixed ip address $ut it will solve lot of issues if !ouused fixed ip.

"n here the server ip is &0.0.0.&'. Since we oin to ma(e it as D#S server too !ou should

use the same ip as the preferred D#S server.

• #ext step is to install the Active director! roles. )nli(el! the older version of

windows servers *icrosoft hihl! recommend to use server manaer option to install

roles $efore !ou run dcpromo.

• +lic( on start menu and select the Server *anaer

• Select the roles from the riht hand panel and clic( on add roles option.

• ,rom the roles list select the -Active Director! Domain Services- role and +lic(

-#ext-

• Review the confirmation and clic( on -#ext-

• Review the installation confirmation and clic( on -#ext-

• "t will ta(e few minutes to complete and when its done !ou will et this confirmation.

And then clic( on -+lose-

After that !ou will need to do a re$oot.

• After re$oot please open up the -server *anaer- aain. And then clic( on -Roles-

there !ou will see the -Active Director! Domain Services- is successfull! installed inthere. clic( on it then !ou will et a window li(e $elow.

2008. "f !ou oin to use full features of 2008 Ad !ou must select forest function

!ou had to do a restore from $ac(up in a server crash. +lic( on -#ext- after fillin it.

• Then it will start the installation of the AD. "t will ta(e some time to complete. Aftercomplete of the installation perform a server re$oot.
