RELEASE NOTES 1.1 .NET Support If FTN95 is intended for use in a .NET environment then the .NET Framework redistributable should be installed as a minimum requirement. Please note that if Microsoft Visual Studio .NET is installed it is not necessary to install the redistributable. FTN95 can now produce code suitable for the Microsoft .NET runtime environment. A switch /CLR has been included that produces .NET object code (.dbk files) a linker, DBK_LINK.EXE has been included to produce .NET executables. FTN95 is also fully integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET when the Visual Studio plugin is installed. Other plugins for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET may interfere with this plugin if they use files with the same file extensions as those used by FTN95 for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, that is (*,f,*.for,*.f90,*.f95). Only one product that deals with these file types should be installed at any one time. For Windows 98 users (and those without Microsoft Visual Studio .NET) debugging of FTN95 for Microsoft .NET applications is not possible. To enable debugging of these projects you should upgrade to Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows NT(SP6) and purchase Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. The FTN95 plugin for Visual Studio contains a full .NET debugger. FTN95 no longer supports .NET 1.1. FTN95 has support for .NET 2.0 to .NET 4.5. If the .NET framework 2.0 is installed, FTN95 will build assemblies targetting .NET 2.0 by default. If only the .NET framework 4.0 is installed then FTN95 will build assemblies targetting .NET 4.0. If both .NET framework 2.0 and 4.0 are installed then FTN95 will build assemblies targetting .NET 2.0 by default, but can be forced to build for 4.0 by using the /CLR_VER 4 switch along with the DBK_LINK4.exe linker. For command line usage of the compiler with C#, you should ensure that the .NET Framework directory is on the path. The usual location for this is: c:\\Microsoft.NET\Framework\\. A command prompt shortcut that sets the path appropriately to the latest version of the .NET framework installed can be found in the start menu. 1.2 Win32 Support Full Win32 support is still available with FTN95, alongside .NET support. Win32 projects can be authored in or outside of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. The Win32 debugger, SDBG, must be used for debugging Win32 applications, rather than the Visual Studio debugger that can be used for .NET projects. There is a Win32 debugger integrated into Visual Studio .NET, however this is currently only recommended for use under Windows XP. Plato3 is also available as an editor for Win32 and .NET projects. 1.3 Visual Clearwin Visual Clearwin is available as an extension to FTN95 for .NET. The components that Visual Clearwin provides should be integrated in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET as described in the FTN95 help file, FTN95.CHM. Visual Clearwin provides a RAD GUI development tool for Fortran programmers for the .NET environment. ClearWin+ is still available for Win32 developers. 1.4 FTN95 Documentation Full documentation can now be found for FTN95, in both Win32 and .NET configuration, for Clearwin+ and for Visual Clearwin, in the help file FTN95.CHM. This can be found in your installation directory after installation. If you do not have a viewer capable of viewing *.CHM files you should perform a Windows Update (http://www.windowsupdate.com). Much of the documentation can be viewed online at http://www.silverfrost.com/ftn95-help/ftn95_contents.aspx 1.5 OpenGL Support ClearWin+ OpenGL support is included in this release and some simple examples are provided in the \demos\opengl directory for demonstration purposes. 1.6 SCC Compiler The Silverfrost FTN95 distribution includes Silverfrost SCC, a fully featured C/C++ Compiler. A full users guide can be found in the installation directory. (scc.hlp) 1.7 MK32 Documentation Documentation for MK32 is provided in Adobe Portable Document Format. To view the file MK.PDF you will need version 3 or above of the Adobe Acrobat reader, which is available for free download from the Adobe web site at: http://www.adobe.com/ 1.8 Salford Library Manager Please see doc\slim.htm for more information 1.9 Salford Diagnostic Tool This can be run to locate various FTN95 files in order to aid with support queries.2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - For .NET Usage a PC running Windows 98, Windows NT (SP6), Windows 2000 or XP is required - PC with an 486 processor or above (Including Pentium, Pentium Pro and Pentium II) - For Win32 development Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows NT - Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.00 or later (for the html help facility) - 50Mb of Hard Disk Space, for installation and for files.3. UNINSTALLING The Uninstall products options in the control panel will uninstall all of the components used by Silverfrost FTN95. This includes some shared components.
