    Parentshaveanincredibly importantrole inhelpingchildrentodeveloptheirreadingskills.Initially,thefocuswillbeondecodingactuallyreadingwhat isonthepage.Atthisstage,littleandoftenisthekeytosuccess,aimingtofosteraloveofreadingforenjoymentwithinthe child. Parents also play a key role in the development of comprehension skills theunderstandingandappreciationofwhatisbeingread.Weaskthatyoureadwithyourchild,forabouttenminuteseverynight,andthendiscusswhatthebookisabout.Youcanhelpyourchildby:Readingregularlywithyourchildathome.Supportingyourchildtodecodeorblendsoundsinunfamiliarwords.Keepingreadingsessionsshortandlight-hearted.Readingabookaloudatthesametimeasyourchild,modellingexpressionandfluency. Sharing books, reading sections each, especially if your child wants to tackle a moredifficulttext.Goingoveranywordsthatyourchildfounddifficult.Givingyourchildlotsofpraise!Discussingwhathasbeenread.Youmayfindthequestionsinthisleafletuseful.
