What is Reading Counts?Scholastic Reading Counts is a literature-based motivation program designed to get students to read and understand what they have read.

Reading CountsReading Counts is an independent reading program that motivates students to become avid readers. Students read books of their own choice at their Lexile Level and then take a computerized quiz to test for comprehension.

SRI AssessmentEach student took an Assessment using the

SRI or Scholastic Reading Inventory.First a practice test and then the real

assessment.

Your Score

•Your score is reported as a Lexile number.

• The Lexile level is the difficultly level at which the student can easily comprehend about 75% of the text.

• The child should read between 100L below and 50L above and the Lexile measure.

For example, if your Lexile score is 400, your range would be 300-450.

Find the Right Book for You!Reading is like the 3 Bears’ chairs. . .

1. Too Hard (Papa Bear’s) and the student may become frustrated and feel she or he doesn’t like reading.2. Too Soft (Mama Bear’s) and the student may become relaxed and bored which can lead to lack of concentration on the text.3.Just Right (Baby Bear’s Chair)

Reading can be done at home and at school.

Quizzes can only be taken here at school. (Like AR).
