This document describes the new Ericsson RBS 6000 series beingimplemented for the 3G Phase IV roll out in MTNN Ericsson regions.

This presentation amongst others helps to also identify Operationsand Maintenance challenges and extra equipment/tool requirementsthat may be required to ensure proper adaptability on the existingnetwork .

It equally describes the modules that are different in theRBS 6000 series cabinet, both for WCDMA and GSM, compared tothe RBS 3000 and RBS 2000 series cabinet

  • Presentation Confidential between MTN and audienceINTRODUCTIONRBS 6000 is a multi-standard RBS family that can be equipped withvirtually any combination of GSM, WCDMA and LTE, which are availablefor any common frequencies to match different capacities and coveragerequirements.

RBS 6000 macro configurations are available in two different cabinets.RBS 6201 Indoor macroRBS 6102 Large outdoor macro

The cabinets layout is in four sections:Two radio shelves combination of the Radio Units (RU) and Digital Units (DU)Power shelf PSU and PDU. The PSU is not implemented as existing rectifiers and/or the hybrid power solutions are being used to power the cabinetsTransport shelf for transport network equipment up to 4U high, though not used in this solution.Enclosure including climate system.

One radio shelf is equipped with 3X1 WCDMA, 2100MHz implemented inthree radio units. Maximum power (ARP) for each RU is 60Watts. Thepower is licensed in steps of 20Watts using Hardware Activation Keys. Each RU is capable of 40Watts/cell carrier with 60Watts hardware.

The RUW is a combined radio and filter unit containing a TRX board, power amplifier andfilter unit.

All the power and system control units remain the same. The radio and digital units are however different (RUG Radio Unit for GSM and DUG Digital Unit for GSM), though there is the multi-standard units which can implement all standards within a common frequency band including GSM, WCDMA and LTE (RUS Radio Unit for Multi-Standard and DUG Digital Unit for Multi-Standard)Radio Unit for GSM (RUG)The RUG has the following functions:Timing reference function by Local Timing Unit (LTU) Transmitter Combining UC/HC connector supervision Output Power Supervision function DC/DC function Tower Mounted Amplifier Control Module (TMA-CM) Power

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCEWCDMAThe RBS 6000 series cabinet contain fewer hardware modules. As such, supportfor them becomes simpler. Besides the power and system monitoring modules, andthe cables, all the radio and digital modules have been compacted into just two the RUW and the DUW. All the power cables and accessory cables are alsodifferent. The part numbers of all these modules are listed in later slide.

For site Operation and Maintenance for WCDMA, the RBS Element Managerremains the same as the node is still on P7.1/W10. However, login in to the node are now done through the LMT(Local Maintenance Terminal) A and B on the DUW. To log in through Hyper-terminal for usual hyper-terminal operations, connectyour straight cable to the LMTA, to the RJ45-Serial adapter, and then to yoursystems COM port, and launch hyper-terminal as usual. Hyper-terminal settingsremain the sameNOTE: the pin out configuration for the RJ45-Serial adapter is different. Findthe pin out in the next 2 slide. To log in through RBS Element Manager, connect your straight cable to theLMTB, and to your systems Ethernet port. Configure your systems IP address tobe on the same LAN with cabinet and launch RBS Element manager the same way

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCEGSMThe RBS 6000 series cabinet contain fewer hardware modules. As such, supportfor them becomes simpler. Besides the PDU, SHU, SCU and SAU modules, whichare auxiliary modules, and the cables, the main modules in the cabinet are just theRUG and DUG.

For site GSM on-site O&M, the OMT remains the same. Login in to the node is nowdone through the LMT(Local Maintenance Terminal) B on the DUG which consistsof an RJ-45 connector.

  • CONCLUSIONAs it has been highlighted, besides the hardware modules that comein a new form in the RBS 6000 series, the Operation and Maintenance ofthese cabinets are very similar to the RBS 3000 series, except for thechange in the required Pin Out configuration of the RJ45-Serial adapter. Noneed for different or additional software/hardware tools as these cabinetsalso run on the P7.1 software version and local login mode is still the same.

And for GSM, OMT login is the same software through the LMT B port onthe DUG, though it is now an RJ-45 connector as against the serialconnector on the RBS 2000 DXU

The hardware modules that are different can still be obtained through theexisting Spare Parts Management System.
