This document describes step-by-step instructions for integration of a RBS 3x06 and single cell 3303 Node B’s.

2 Objective

This document serves a purpose of describing all procedures related to the commissioning and integration of a RBS 3206, RBS 3106 and 3303

3 Prerequisites

Complete RBS carry-in, installation, and check power system according to the following instructions.

Note: The revisions indicated above are the latest revision of the documents at the time this instruction was created. Always refer to the latest revision of the Installation Instructions.

4 Tools For Verification

PC Tools

Windows 98/2000/NT/XP, laptop, PC

Pre-install / pre-configure the following tools according to the document titled “EMAS Installation Guide”.

Java plug-in version is 1.3.1 for EMAS and OE Mozilla Firefox 1.0, Netscape 4.7 or Internet Explorer 5.0 for EMAS, OE HyperTerminal / Winfiol Telnet and serial terminal software WS-FTP or equivalent. FTP Server software installed (i.e. Serv-U/Bison).

5 Hardware

The latest RBS Software Packages has been downloaded from http://ec-docs.ericy.com/ and stored locally. Commissioners/installers must follow the correct supported upgrade paths. The scripts will be delivered by Ericsson.

Site specific .xml files and MO script xxx_OamAccess.xml xxx_SiteEquipment.xml xxx_SiteComplete.mo

5.1 Hardware

Ethernet crossover RJ45 to RJ45 cable for RBS-Thin Client connection. Serial RS-232C, RJ45-Dsub9 cables for RBS-Thin Client connection.

(Part number NTM 50346/100) T1 Transmission Loop back plug (RJ45). Set of tools to include Torx 8mm driver.

6 Configuration

In this document the following notation is used for commands.

$ te▲log▲read

This would mean that you should enter ’te’ <space key> ’log’ <space key> ’read’ and then press <enter key>. $ appears when you open a serial connection and press the return key.

6.1 Prepare for Integration.

6.2 Check Miscellaneous Equipment (i.e. TMA/XALM/Battery installations)

6.3 No alarm on transmission equipment (CSU) (If Applicable).

6.4 Cabling between the Thin Client and RBS. Ethernet connection is made from the laptop to M1 on the connection Field of UMTS RBS 3206/3106). For the 3303 there is a short 100mm, RJ45 to Emily connector inserted in the GPB in slot position 4.

6.5 Connect serial cable to M2 on the connection field of UMTS RBS 3206/3106, if not cabled then connect directly to the CBU test port. For the 3303 connection needs to be made to the GPB in slot position 4.

6.6 Thin Client IP Address Change (see section 7)

6.7 Check Serial Connection (HyperTerminal / Winfiol)

7 Preparing The Laptop

7.1 Setting the laptop IP address

The laptop PC needs to be configured to reach the node for the first time when using the Ethernet connection and the Element Manager Application and Support (EMAS). This section describes changing the TCP/IP setting on the laptop, according to the IP addressing strategy of the Cingular network.

This activity must be performed at each new site as the site IP addresses are uniquely numbered.

7.2 On the desktop, right-click the My Network Places (Network Neighbourhood in NT) icon.

7.3 From the submenu, select <Properties>

7.4 Right click on the Local Area Connection icon and select <Properties> from the drop down menu.

The "Local Area Connection Properties" window will open.

7.5 Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on <Properties>

The following window opens.

Note: this is the default setting for connecting to the EXI/Cingular Data network it should be returned to this at the end of the procedure.

The Laptop PC IP Address is set in this window using the following process,

NOTE: The IP address of the Laptop PC (thin client) cannot be the same as the Ethernet IP address of the RBS node.

Networking convention dictates that the commissioning laptop (thin client) address is equal to the RBS Node Ethernet address incremented by one.

Example (Site specific IP address (i.e. site 434)

RBS Ethernet IP Address = 10.32.91.45 Laptop PC (thin client) IP Address = 10.32.91.46

The Subnet mask can be set as follows. Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.252

7.6 Select 'Use the following IP address' in the TCP/IP properties window.

Enter the IP address for the Laptop PC (thin client), and also enter the Subnet Mask as detailed above. Check that the 'Use the following DNS server address' is selected and that the address and subnet mask is blank.

7.7 Click <OK> & close all the windows.

7.8 In some instances it may be required restart the Laptop PC (thin client) to activate the new IP settings.

The Laptop PC (thin client) is now configured.

8 Formatting the RBS 3000

8.1 Note: As detailed in this procedure the RBS 3000 will be placed into a BACKUP mode, this is an 'idle' mode where the RBS is in a state where it is not in service or executing any of it's own processes.

Force the RBS into BACKUP mode using the commands in the serial window below,

The expected response that will be contained in the serial window is “Stop due to remain in backup set”

Now format the RBS hard disks using the following commands, responding with Y when prompted to continue. Note: All data on the hard disk will be destroyed.

$ formathd▲/d Y $ formathd▲/c2 Y

Once the second format command has completed enter the following command

$ reload▲- - The expected response that will be contained in the serial window is “Stop due to remain in backup set”

8.2 With the RBS 3000 is in the “BACKUP” mode, proceed to the next section to set the RBS 3000 Ethernet IP address, using the following format.

NOTE: For this information Refer to the <RBS>html document that is delivered with the scripts.

$ ifconfig le0 <RBS IP_address> netmask <RBS sub-netmask_address>

e.g. $ ifconfig▲le0▲10.32.91.45▲netmask▲255.255.255.252

Verify the IP address that has been input by using the following command, the reply will show the IP address information that has been set. If the information is incorrect set the IP address again.

$ ifconfig interface: le0 ip-address: 10.32.91.45 subnetmask: 255.255.255.252 broadcast: 10.32.91.47 Example printout following the 'ifconfig' command.

8.3 Specify the password for access to the RBS node with the following commands in the serial window.

$ passwd $ rbs (No output in serial window) $ rbs (No output in serial window)

9 Load The “RBS” Basic Software Package

9.1 Verify the RBS’s IP address with the “ping” command.

9.2 Open a Command Prompt window from the Start Up Menu on your laptop, and type “ping” followed by the RBS IP address.

Example: C:\> ping▲10.32.91.45 The expected response will be 0% loss

9.3 Start WS-FTP form your laptop, and configure the FTP session for your RBS.

In the “Sessions Properties” window select “New” For Profile Name, enter RBS site number.

For Host Name/Address, enter NodeB IP Address. For User name, enter rbs.

9.4 For Password, enter rbs and tick “Save Pwd”

Example

Click Apply and then OK to connect.

9.5 Set the path in the Local System window to point to the Basic Package being loaded: Example – C:\CXP9010390_Rxxx\hard_disk,

In the folder “hard_disk” 2 folders exist, they are “c2” and “d”. Delete path displayed in the remote file on the top right hand side and enter “/” (forward slash) and press enter.

Confirm that the folder structure displayed on the left side and the right side are the same c2 and d

Disable log. Options General Uncheck Enable log.

From the left display, select folder c2 and d, and press button in the middle of the display, a pop up window will appear ”Do you want to transfer the selected folders and their contents?” click Yes, this will start the file transfer. This should only take about 5 to 10 minutes.

After the transfer is complete check that the files shown in both windows are the same and then exit WS- FTP.

9.6 Perform a reload.

$reload

Ensure the RBS starts in Basic mode ”Starting configuration version” = rbs_basic_cv. You will then need to wait until you see IOR displayed in the serial window before continuing, this can take up to 4 minutes.

Follow the table below and check the LED status of each board.

Note: The boards listed are a minimum configuration for a three sector site, there could be additional boards installed to meet traffic requirements. Also, depending on the cabinet’s power configuration PSUs may not be installed.

10 Configuration File Descriptions

In the following sections you will be asked to manually run the cabinet Wizard and load a series of site specific XML Script files and one Managed Object (mo) file into the RBS using the Element Manager Software (EMAS).

10.1 O&M Access Configuration File (XML)

The O&M Access Configuration File contains the parameters for configuration of the local and remote access.This file must be loaded on site.

10.2 Site Equipment Configuration File (XML)

The Site Configuration File contains the parameters for configuration of the equipment on site.This file can be loaded either on site or remotely

10.3 Site Complete Configuration Scripts (Managed Object)

Primarily these scripts include the configuration of the rest of the transport network (Iub).

11 Run the 'Cabinet Equipment Configuration Wizard'

This creates the INITIAL_CV. Before continuing, ensure that the T1 link is disconnected from the RBS, at the transmission equipment.

11.1 Start Firefox, Netscape navigator or Internet Explorer and enter http://<RBS IP Address>/em/index_stubbed.html in the address bar.

11.2 Run Cabinet Equipment Wizard.From the EMAS Menu Bar,Select Configuration Cabinet Equipment.

11.3 When the “Configuration Cabinet” window opens click Next.

11.4 There is no longer an .xml script file to load at this stage, instead the wizard is run manually and the correct Node configuration data must be added. Do not tick “Use configuration file”, only click Next.

11.5 After “Configuration successfully loaded”, click Next.

11.6 Select RBS Product name (RBS3206 or RBS3106). No Redundant Control system (By default)Select number of sectors (Default = 3).Select 1 for number of RU’s per sector, number of carriers is automatically set to 1.Then click Next.

11.7 In the Power Supply Configuration window, select the appropriate power supply for your RBS. If 3106 then select number of PSU’s, tick Battery Backup and Battery Capacity (in amp hours, check batteries). If 3206 then select internal power supply and number of PSU’s. Click Next.

11.8 On page 5, insert the correct RBS IP address and Subnet Mask. Click Next.

11.9 RBS initial configuration is displayed. Click Finish wait for configuration bar to complete then click “Yes” to Restart RBS.

Click OK when “Configuration Completed Successfully” is displayed. Note: Connection to EMAS will be lost after the Restart Example

After the node has restarted wait ~ 5 minutes until all boards except the FU/RU are in locked mode, yellow LED on (solid)

12 Run the ‘O&M Access Configuration Wizard’

12.1 Start Firefox, Netscape navigator or Internet Explorer and enter http://<RBS IP Address>/em/index_stubbed.html in the address bar.

12.3 Click Next when the “Preconditions” window opens.

12.4 Click Use configuration file, browse for file, <RBS>_OamAccess.xml and Open, and then check the Wizard box, and then click Next.

12.5 After successful completion of configuration, Click Next.

12.6 Check “On site” and Click Next.

12.7 Click Next through the next few pages until you reach Finish. Check that the data shown matches the RBS configuration you are commissioning.

12.8 Click Finish, wait for configuration progress bar to complete and then click OK to close window.

A new CV (OAM_CV) will be created and set as startable.

13 Verify synchronization and transmission

13.1 At this point we need to verify that the T1Transmission link is working from the RNC to the RBS, this can be achieved by the following steps.

13.2 Check that the RBS is getting synchronization from the RNC. It needs to achieve synchronization before the Site Equipment Configuration Wizard is started, to avoid unnecessary instability in the Node. To do this we need to get the system clock in the RBS to “LOCKED MODE”.

13.3 With the T1 link already disconnected at the transmission equipment (or at the RBS connection field) continue with the following commands.

In the serial window type $ te▲log▲clear

Reconnect the T1 link to the transmission equipment (or RBS connection field).

After 1 minute, in the serial window type $ te▲log▲read

In the printout log you can see whether the RBS is in “LOCKED MODE”. Look for:INFO:Status/Stability of RBS distributed clocks changed to lockedMode

Note: If this is not visible in the trace and error (te) log, then you will need to insert the RJ45 loop back plug in position K1 on the RBS connection field, to achieve locked mode.

Wait until all the boards now have solid green LEDs.

At this point you need to liaise with the RDC/RNC Support engineers to verify that you have connection from the RNC, to the RBS, over the T1 Link.Break the link at the transmission equipment and use a RJ45 loop back plug towards the RNC. Confirm the link becomes enabled and proceed to the next step.

14 Run the ‘Site Equipment Configuration Wizard’

14.1 Run O&M Access Wizard From the EMAS Menu Bar, Select Configuration Site Equipment…

Click Next when the “Preconditions” window opens.

14.2 Click Use configuration file, browse for file, <RBS>_SiteEquipment.xml and Open, and then check the Wizard box, and click Next.

14.3 After successful completion of configuration, Click Next.

14.4 For sites with External Alarm Control Unit, verify that “use external alarm control unit” box is checked. If no external alarm unit (XALM) is needed then skip this step.

14.5 Verify site name, then Click Next.

14.6 Click Next through the next several screens until you reach Finish. RBS configuration data should be present in the different fields.

Check that the data shown matches the RBS configuration you are commissioning.

14.7 Click Finish, wait for configuration progress bar to complete and then click OK to close window. A new CV (SITE_CV) will be created and set as startable.

15 Load the Site Specific Configuration (MO) script

15.1 Run Command File for .mo script From Menu Bar, Select Configuration Run Command File… Example

15.2 The Config File Executor window opens Select Halt on Errors. (Place a tick in the box)

Select Verbose Logging On. (Place a tick in the box) Browse for file, <RBS>_SiteComplete.mo, and then click Start.

15.3 Note: make sure you receive “Configuration Succeeded” printout in the Logging view window.

Close Config file executor window.

16 Save the Site complete Configuration Version and check IP connectivity

16.1 Select “Software” container, using drop down menu located on the left hand side below the Menu bar.

16.2 Select + to expand “SwManagement” Right Click on “Configuration Version”, then select “Properties”. Ensure that the “Auto CV Creation” box is un-checked.

16.3 Click Apply then click OK.

16.4 From the main EMAS window select <Maintenance>, <Software>, <Configuration Versions>, and then click <Create>.

Complete the CV name and Comment field in the format shown below,

16.6 After a short time, the previous window updates, and appears as below.Example

16.7 Click Set Start…, and Load Now.

Click the “Warm Restart ”button and the RBS will restart automatically.

16.8 Check the boards LED status.

16.9 Validate the IP/ATM connectivity

To confirm that TCP/IP packets can be passed across the network to the remote end using IP over ATM, and to verify that remote O&M is possible over the IP layer, the following steps must be performed.

16.10 PING the OSS-RC server from the RBS.

Enter the following command in the serial window.

$ ping▲10.171.190.6

(This is the IP address of the main OSS-RC server in Redmond, it may vary).

The correct response should be, 10.171.190.6 is alive.

A failed response is, no answer from 10.171.190.6.

Check that there are no alarms on the RBS by clicking on Supervision from the main EMAS window and click Alarm List. There should be no alarms visible.

The RBS is now commissioned and an Upgrade can now be performed if required.

17 Upgrading the RBS 3000 Software

17.1 Before beginning the hardware testing (i.e. test calls, external alarms etc.) the Node must he upgraded to the latest revision of software deployed in the network.

The RNC engineer may carryout this software upgrade for you (the site must be attached to OSS-RC for this functionality to be available).

17.2 If the RNC engineer is unable to carryout this software upgrade, you can follow the procedure detailed below to upgrade the RBS software on site. Remember to start your FTP Server software on your laptop.

17.3 Uploading the Upgrade Package (UP) to the RBS 3000. From the main EMAS window, select <Maintenance>, <Software>, <Upgrade Packages>, and then click <Install>.

17.4 The Upgrade Package Create Window will open.Complete the ‘Name’, ‘UP control file path’ and ‘FTP server IP address’ fields, with the information (remember to cut and paste the file path), i.e. Name = The name of the Upgrade Package. Example: UP_RBS_CXP9010809_R6D UP control file path = The location were the .xml/software is stored on

your Laptop. Example: C/Software/UP_RBS_CXP9010809_R6D_RAN_3.0-AD3_A/

CXP9010809%1_R6D.xml FTP Server IP address = The Address of your Laptop. Example: 10.32.91.46

Click <Create Package> and wait for the xml file download to be completed, once done the ‘egg timer’ will disappear.

17.5 The Upgrade Package Install Window will open

17.6 A software installation confirmation window opens

Click <Soft install>

17.7 The Upgrade Package (UP) files are downloaded and progress is shown by the progress bar, this can take a number of minutes to appear depending on the speed of the connection.

17.8 Once the Upgrade Package (UP) download is complete the ‘State’ is shown as ‘Installed’.

17.9 Wait for the Upgrade Node button to become available.

Click <Upgrade Node>

17.10 The Node upgrade confirmation window opens.

Click <Soft upgrade>

The RBS 3000 will now be upgraded using the downloaded Upgrade Package.

17.11 The Upgrade window shows the upgrade progress

During the upgrade contact to EMAS may be lost, depending on whether a restart is ordered. The RBS should restart with a CV called SU_xxxxxxxxx.

17.12 Once the upgrade is complete return to EMAS to confirm that the upgrade was successful and to make it permanent.

In the main EMAS window,

From the Software view, click + and expand SwManagement, open Upgrade packages, highlight the downloaded Upgrade Package, right click and select <Confirm upgrade>

Click <Yes>. The upgrade is now compete.

Where necessary return to the beginning of this section to load any further software Upgrade Packages that may be required to bring the Node up to the latest software revision, currently in the network.

17.13 From the serial window, ensure that the Final CV has been created successfully and set to “Startable”.

17.14 Restart the Node from the serial window.

$ restartObj▲me

17.15 Check that no Alarms are present in the RBS .

Click on Supervision from the main EMAS window and click Alarm List. There should be no alarms visible.

This completes the Upgrade Procedure
