It was lovely meeting a few more parents. The beach tree planting at Kairakau Beach was brilliant. We planted nearly 300 kowhai trees and flaxes. The students did a great job planting the trees which was then followed by a beach clean up. We collected 2 large bags of rubbish from plastic to an old car booster seat. The BBQ lunch put on by PAFs was a delicious treat and well deserved after some hard work.. Thank you PAFs for doing this. After lunch we did relay races on the beach and then had fun in the sand making sand sculptures. A very big thank you to Brian McCoskery and Richard who organised the plants. Brian has been doing plantings in the area for about three years and is very passionate about restoring native plants back in the area to attract more wildlife such as tui’s and bellbirds and providing a space for insects to flourish. He has ap- proached the School to see if we can work together to grow seed- lings to plant more natives each year. Another thank you goes out to Viv for helping to organise the day, this was a big task but so worth while as our children have the opportunity to experience such rich learning. “Growing the Future” Sarah Laugesen Certificates Congratulations to the following students: Cove Lambert for demonstrating respect in the Classroom and in the playground. District Health Board Information.

About sore throats

A sore throat is pain or discomfort in the throat.

Your child may find it hard to swallow, eat or drink

because their throat is sore. Sometimes, especially

for young children, it is

hard for them to explain

what they're feeling. You

may need to explain to

your child what a sore

throat feels like and watch to see if they have prob-

lems swallowing, eating and drinking. You can look

in your child's mouth for these signs of a sore

throat:

Throat infections are a common childhood illness

and most sore throats are viral infections which will

get better without treatment. However, bacterial

strep throat infections are more serious and need

treatment with antibiotics to prevent complications,

such as developing rheumatic fever.

Healthy Homes

Open windows for a short time each day. This

helps to ventilate your house. Fresh air keeps your

house dry, which makes it easier and cheaper to

heat your house. Remember to open a window in

the kitchen when cooking and in the bathroom

Please remember that

fruit contains sugar and

acid which can add to

the risk of decay in your

child’s teeth. It is den-

tally unwise to allow

your child to “graze” on

fruit. Fruit should be

given as part of one of

the recommended 3

meals and 2 snacks your

child would normally

have each day.
