QuickTime provides many new options. One of which is the ability to create various types of recordings... New Movie recording, New Audio recording, and New Screen recording.

A New Movie Recording opens the camera and allows you and/or your students to create a movie. Clicking the red button starts the recording and clicking the square button (appears in place of the red button once the recording begins) stops the recording.

Clicking on the Arrow allows you to choose the camera, the microphone, and the quality as well as where to save the movie.

Once you have finished the video, you can play it back actual size, full screen by clicking on the double arrows. You can also easily send it to iTunes, Mobile Me, or Facebook.

In addition to a movie recording, you can also easily do an audio recording.

Last, but not least, you can do a Screen Recording. This is especially helpful if you would like to record your screen moves to show how to do something... how to open and save a file, how to create a page in ComicLife, etc.

When doing a Screen Recording, the stop button will appear in your menu bar, so as not to be seen on the screen. The Screen Recording popup window will also be hidden from the screen.

If, by chance, the stop button does NOT appear, you can stop the screen recording by using the Control/Command/Escape keys.

Screen recordings are also a wonderful way to “record” a webinar or an online video that may not be supported by video converters such as Zamzar, etc. The first thing youʼll want to do is find the video you want to record and have it ready to “play”, as shown below.

Next, open QuickTime Player and select “New Screen Recording”. Make sure your audio is turned up and begin playing the video. Choose the full screen option for the video, if it is available, and click on “Start Screen Recording” in QuickTime Player.

When you are finished recording, press Control/Command/Escape to stop the screen recording. The QuickTime movie will appear, along with a menu bar that gives you the option of playing the movie, exporting it, or watching it in full screen mode.

The Export feature allows you to specify where you want the file to be sent. NOTE: All screen recording are automatically saved in the Movies folder on the hard drive. You can rename them there in order to keep them organized. There is also a “Trim” feature that lets you trim the beginning or ending of the movie. If you wish to do further editing, you may import the screen recording into iMovie and edit it there.
