Hello S&R Stakeholders,

RE: Thanks to you for your continued interest in the on-going expansion of the S&R Industry in T&T.

Quite a lot has happened in the development of our local maritime sector, since a change inGovernment administration lead by the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley, MP afterthe September 2015 General Elections held in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The SRDC and our maritime Cluster Stakeholders were pleased tofacilitate the inward visit of a Maritime Graduate from the UniversidadMaritima del Caribe (UMC) a leading Venezuelan Maritime Universityto our shores, during the period 18th - 22nd December, 2015.Visit included tours to scenic sites, ports, shipyards and meetings withour Stakeholders in Trinidad and Tobago. ARTHUR LOK JACK GSB STUDENTS VISIT SHIPYARDS

On January 30, 2016 students enrolled in the MBA -International Trade, Logistics and Procurement programme atthe Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business visited bothInter-Isle Construction & Fabrication and Maritime Preservation(Trinidad) Shipyards, located at Chaguaramas Bay and the portof Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

This field trip afforded them a hands-on appreciation of theworkings of a shipyard, a most invaluable experience given thatthis industry is one of the sectors being targeted for expansionas part of the country’s economic diversification thrust.

This event was organized by the Shipbuilding and Repair Development Company of Trinidad andTobago Limited, with the kind assistance of their S&R Cluster Stakeholders. The visit was muchappreciated and a great eye-opener, as expressed unanimously and resoundingly echoed by thestudents.

SHIPBUILDING & REPAIR STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATIONS AT MTI

The Honourable Senator Paula Gopie-Scoon, Minister of Trade & Industry together with MTI Staffhosted two Stakeholders Consultations on the 27th November, 2015 and on the 27th January, 2016respectively. These consultations successfully held at the Ministry’s Head Office, signalled theintention of the new Government Administration to urgently create an Action Plan to fast-trackthe immediate expansion and development of our Shipbuilding & Repair industry, bearing in mindthe continued decline in the local energy sector, due to falling oil and gas prices globally.

Administration in 2016, to lead the much needed diversification of our

economy, away from the energy sector.

Our  Developmental  Programmes  and  S&R  Cluster  activities,  include  the 

rapid  expansion  of  existing  Shipyards  and  the  construction  of  a  new                       

World‐Class Shipyard at La Brea, as we continue to establish strong linkages 

with  our  maritime  neighbours  to  successfully  compete  in  the  global 

Shipbuilding & Repair industry. This bearing in mind, the increasing number 

of ocean‐going ships that will transit the Caribbean Sea, with the opening 

of the 3rd lock in the expanded Panama Canal in June 2016.

THE SRDC HAS PROMOTED THE IDEA OF ESTABLISHING A WORLD-CLASS

SHIPYARD AT LA BREA, SOUTH-WESTERN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, SINCE 2010.

- Held nine (9) community meetings in La Brea and surrounding communities,

including Aripero Village, Sobo, Vessigny, Vance River, Point Fortin to name a few.

- Arranged visit to Shipyards in North Trinidad for the benefit of La Brea residents.

- Received signed letter of Project Endorsement from Environmental Activist,

Community Leaders and Residents.
