How To UseQuark DesignPad

What Is Quark DesignPad?Quark® DesignPad is an exciting new app that lets you create brochures, display ads, flyers, greeting cards,newsletters, posters, and more on your iPad. If you’re a QuarkXPress® user, you can use DesignPad to quicklywork up layouts interactively with customers in a fun and novel way, then you can transfer the file to yourcomputer and apply the finishing touches in QuarkXPress*. If you’re not a QuarkXPress user, you can e-mailyour finished documents in PNG format.

In the Type tab,tap the buttonfor the type ofdocument youwant to create.A default designof that type displays.

If you are in portraitmode, tap Design in the title barto display the design options. (If you are in landscapemode, the design options display automatically on the left.)

Tap the Size tab at the bottom of thedesign options. In this tab, you cantap one of the existing page sizes orcreate a new page size. To changethe page size, use the controlsat the bottom. To change thenumber in a size field, usethe slider or tap the fieldand enter a number.The layout resizesdynamically.

If you want to create a custom size, configurethe size, tap the plus button at the top, entera name, and then tap Done at the top. Toedit the name of a custom size, tap Editand then tap the size name.

To create adocumentwith QuarkDesignPad:Tap Start a New Design.

Caption: The size of the caption boxesbelow each picture box, in inches.

Caption Position: Lets you control wherecaption boxes are positioned relative totheir picture boxes:

Below Above

Bottom Middle

Top

Horizontal Span: The number of grid rectangles each text or picture box shouldcover horizontally.

Vertical Span: The number of grid rectangles each text or picture box shouldcover vertically.

Pattern: Lets you adjust the layout of theboxes in the grid.

Order: Lets you change the order of theboxes in the grid.

The controls in this area are as follows:

Margin: The outside margin, in inches.

Horizontal Gap: The gap between columns in the grid.

Vertical Gap: The gap between rows in the grid.

Columns: The number of columns in the grid.

Rows: The number of rows in the grid.

Background: Lets you choose from a variety of sizesand positions for the picture box in the background ofthe design. Set this to zero to eliminate this picture box.

Header: The size of the main headline box.

Text Areas: The number of text boxes in the grid.

Picture Areas: The number of picture boxes in the grid.

Bleed: Lets you control whether picture boxes extendto the edge of the page

If you want to create a custom layout, configure the layout the way you want it, tap the plus button at the top, enter a name, and then tap Done at the top. To edit the name of a custom layout, tap Edit and then tap the layout name.

To randomize the settings in the layout, tap the dice button at the top.

To save the current layout settings, tap the Save button at the top.

To customize the layout of the document,tap the Layout tab at the bottom of thedesign options.

If you want to use the layout with Quark Web-to-Print** or Quark Brand Manager***, tap each boxin the layout and choose a box tag from thelist that displays.

When you’re done configuring the lay-out, tap Add Content. Note that onceyou tap Add Content, you cannotchange the layout’s settings (althoughyou can adjust the layout manually).

To change the name of the layout,tap Untitled in the title bar and thenenter a new name.

To zoom in and out, use pinch ges-tures. To scroll around in the layout,drag with two fingers.

Displaysthe Box Attributes

popover, where you can

edit the color,

opacity,

frame width,

and frame color of the box.

Displays the TextAttributes popover, where you

can edit the size,

inset,

color,

alignment, and font of the text.

Lets you assign a boxtag to the box.

Lets you edit the textin the box.

To configure a text box, tapthe box, thentap one of thefollowingicons:

Displays the Box Attributespopover, where you can

edit the color,

opacity,

frame width,

and frame color

of the box. For picture boxes, you can also delete the picture by tapping

Lets you assign a box tag to the box.

Lets you put a picture fromyour iPad in the box.

Lets you put a stock photograph in the box.

Displays the Picture Attributespopover, where you can

fill the box with the picture

or fit the picture to the box proportionally,

and control the picture’s opacity.

To change the positionand cropping of a picturein a box, tap and hold onthe picture until the picturedims, then use pinch gesturesto resize and move the picture.When you’re done, tap outside the box or tap

To change the size of columnsand rows, tap and drag in thespace between two columns or rows.

To configure a picture box, tapthe box, then tap oneof the followingicons:

Tap and drag the arrows inthe lower right cornerof the box to resizethe box.

To delete a textor picture boxthat you’veadded, tap itand then tap

To add a text box or picture box,tap the plus button,

then tap to createa new text box

or to create a new picture box tap

To select the background picture box (if any), tap

To turn guide lines on and off, tap

To e-mail a PNG version of the layout or a QuarkXPress version of the document, or to tweet a PNG version of the document, tap

Note that for Twitter posting towork, you must enter your Twitterlogin credentials in the iPad’sSettings app.

When you’re done editing the layout,tap Done. A thumbnail of your layoutdisplays in the middle area of thehome screen, and you can edit itlater by tapping it there.

Drag the boxinto position with

one finger.
