    What the tool does How it can help

    Text to Speech ► Reads text aloud with dual color highlighting and choice of several natural-sounding voices. Settings let you customize the speed of text reader.

    Hearing and seeing the words read aloud offers students with dyslexia independent exposure to vocabulary and more complex text. Comprehension increases for this reason as students are not struggling with decoding. Adjustable reading rate benefits learners.

    Hover Speech Reads text on websites in Chrome without highlighting. Hovering over the text will initiate the reader. Can be set to read one sentence at a time.

    In order to have words, phases, or linked article titles read aloud without accidentally hyperlinking, providing more options of what can be read aloud on web pages.

    Click to Speak 4 Reads one sentence at a time within a PDF aloud one sentence at a time by clicking on it. Students have more control of how much text is read without highlighting the text to be read within a PDF document.

    Talking Dictionary |jm Provides definitions to improve comprehension and word choice with writing. For support during reading, each and every definition can be speech enabled. Picture Dictionary * Displays images from Widgit® Symbols to help

    support word identification, fluency and understanding.

    Practice Reading Aloud

    ft Allows students to practice reading aloud and record themselves reading text they select from Google Doc or webpage, use support tools, listen to their recordings, and send one to their teacher.

    Students need to practice the ability to read text with sufficient speed and accuracy to support comprehension including prosody. Students can practice as many times as needed to feel comfortable.

    Voice Note Records a short audio file (one minute or less) of your voice, and inserts it into a Google Doc as a comment. Multiple Voice Notes can be made per document.

    This gives students a way to immediately record their thoughts, questions, connections, etc. without keyboarding. Voice recorded notes can be shared with others.

    Builds a four-column table of selected vocabulary words in a Google Doc, including selected words, dictionary definitions, images from Widgit Symbols, and a column for notes.

    Students can self-select new or difficult terms to create their list. Once it is built, additional columns and categories can be added/modified to contain the most helpful information for each learner.

    Audio Maker Converts selected text into an audio file, e.g. MP3, which will be automatically downloaded and can then be saved or shared in Google Drive.

    Recordings of reading assignments can increase background knowledge and comprehension of assigned texts in one of the easiest ways for students with dyslexia. This is of particular benefit to auditory learners.
