Characteristics of Next Generation
Network:NGN is designed with an open network
framework.NGN adopts the hierarchical
architecture, which is divided into media access layer, transport layer, control layer and service/application layer.
NGN is based on standard protocols and packet switching network.

call control progress.
The control handles the call setup and
controls the media gateways.
Major components at this layer are the
soft-switches.
