PIPEWORK, STRESS ANALYSIS AND HANGER DESIGN

Over 30 Years’ worldwide experience.

Pipe Supports Limited has over 30 years’ experience ofdesigning and supplying hanger systems for powerstations, petrochemical complexes, pulp and paper millsand other industrial installations. ISO 9001 approved,PSL is establishing a reputation throughout the worldfor its ability to accurately analyse piping stress, thenengineer, design and manufacture a cost-effectivesupport system.

Global design and supply solutions.With design offices in the USA, Thailand, India, Japanand the UK utilising the most up-to-date engineeringand design software we offer a fully co-ordinatedservice: stress analysis of pipework, hanger selection,design and detailing, manufacturing and contractmanagement. This service will ensure cost-effectivehanger systems, delivered in accordance with designrequirements.

Stress analysis.

We use PC-based piping stress analysis programs. Thesesoftware packages are engineering tools used in themechanical design and analysis of piping systems. Amodel of the piping system is created using simple beamelements and the loading conditions imposed on thesystem are defined. From this input the softwareproduces results in terms of deflections, loads andstresses throughout the system. In addition, theycompare these results with the allowable limits. PSLspring hangers are automatically selected and sizedwithin such programs. They can analyse any pipingsystem for all normal and transient conditions, plus allpossible modes of operation.

Design of pipe hanger systems

To optimise this service, we have developed PSLCAD, abespoke package that functions within the Autocadenvironment. It is designed to facilitate the selection,drawing and listing of all standard components, springunits and steelwork. This programme is also availablefor customers to use in-house, enabling them tomaintain design responsibility, and at the same timeachieve dramatic savings in man hours.

We also offer FastDraw, a selection and detailing

program operating in MS Excel. Fast Draw provides thefacility to select and detail over 400 hangerconfigurations including constant, variable and rigidassemblies. The output includes a consolidated hangerlisting and individual support drawings, providing allrelevant dimensions and system data. The program isavailable to customers and we are confident thatdramatic time savings can be realised using thisprogram.

Surveys of existing pipe hanger systems

Our engineers are experienced in surveying existingsystems reporting on their condition and makingrecommendations on their correct installation andfuture safe operation. Such surveys are increasinglybeing demanded by utilities and safety authorities.
