Carlucci, Assistant Principal Gifted and Talented Program Philosophy The mission of the Community School District 30 Gifted and Talented program is to provide children with a “world class” education. The program was created to meet the unique needs of community children who have met the criteria for giftedness. These are children who are creative thinkers and problem solvers. The educational program is designed to support and enhance their abilities. They are provided with a differentiated curriculum which is advanced, enriched, and designed to challenge their critical, creative, and productive thinking processes. Admission to the program is based on a comprehensive screening process. Students must continue to demonstrate high standards both academically and socially to maintain eligibility for the program. o Accelerated Academic Program o Club Programs Social Awareness, Yearbook, Community Service, Gardening, & many more. o Center for Civic Education We the People & Project Citizen o Renzulli Learning o National Junior Honor Society o Student Council o Math League o Chorus and Band o Science Labs o Computer Labs o C.H.A.M.P.S. Sports and Fitness Academy For the Intellectually Gifted The students are offered a differentiated, accelerated, and enriched program of instruction. Challenging projects engage students in problem solving activities to develop higherlevel thinking and creative critical analysis skills. Activities include: In 8 th grade, students are offered the accelerated program for high school credit with passing exam scores. o Integrated Algebra Regents o Earth Science Regents o Spanish Language Proficiency Specialized High Schools At least 90% of Academy students are accepted to specialized high schools annually.

Gifted  and  Talented    Program  Philosophy

Magnet  Mission  Statement    

The  mission  of  PS  122,  The  Core  Knowledge  Magnet  School,  is  to  provide  our  students  with  an  enhanced  global  awareness  of  an  evolving  world.  The  program,  using  a  sequential  course  of  study,  links  Social  Studies  throughout  the  curriculum  using  literature-­‐based  resources  and  technology.  This  will  provide  students  with  the  solid  foundation  they  require  to  be  successful  members  of  our  society.  

What  Is  Core  Knowledge?  

Core  Knowledge  is  a  philosophy  that  schools  need  a  shared  core  curriculum  in  order  to  establish  strong  foundations  of  knowledge,  grade  by  grade.

Program  

As  a  school  family,  our  children  learn  compassion  through  humanitarian  contributions  locally  and  globally.  We  have  participated  in  Pennies  for  Patients,  City  Harvest,  Jump  Rope  for  Heart,  and  disaster  relief  through  various  organizations  including  1,000  Paper  Cranes  for  Japan.
