Case Study

Application : Raw Mill Fan

Industry : Cement

Customer : Raysut Cement , Salalah, Sultanate of Oman

Specification :

Dia. of the Impeller : 3050mm, Width : 896mm

Shaft dia : 370 mm

Problem : Wear of the vanes & centre plate due to erosion as the impeller handles abrasive particles of pulverised limestone. The wear will also depend on Silica content in the raw material. Since the centre plate, vanes & shrouds were eroded hence the customer had to replace the same with new impeller and the impeller had to be scrapped.

Solution : Since the shaft of the impeller was in good condition, hence it was decided to make the centre plate and shrouds using Hardox Plates as per the existing design. The vanes were fabricated using Chromium Carbide Cladded plate to resist the erosion.

Result : The fan was as good as new with only the shaft reused. The Fan was put in operation on 4th Nov’2014. The wear of the vanes & centre plate has been limited and surpassed the customers expectation in operation. The Fan is still in operation.
