Protect your PV installation: protect your investmentA photovoltaic installation is a long-term investment which needs to beprotected, by means of SPDs (surge protective devices), from anydamage due to overvoltages. This protection is vital, in terms of preser-ving the quality and lifespan of any system component, while avoidingenergy production stops, thus saving costs.
The safest solution
DSF is the safest solution for anytype of combiner box in PV sys-tems, due to its built-in backupprotection.This is a cost-effective solution,as it saves cost and space forbackup fuses. Our solutionneeds no backup fuse as thisfunction is already performed bythe DSF itself.
Total protection
Thanks to the DSF innovativetechnology, it is now possible tofurther protect the internal vari-stor (the main component of anySPD). At the end of the varistor'slife, this special technology,involving an internal backup pro-tection, enables DSF to be safeif a short circuit should occur.
Ready for the new standards
DSF is one of the first product onthe market to be ready for thefuture standard EN50539-11 andalready conforms to the newFrench standard UTEC 6-740-5,both specifically addressed toPV systems. These norms indi-cate that the SPD must includebackup protection and prohibitthe use of fuses for this purpose.

PV installationsVoltage surges are peaks in the electrical gridcaused by either low-voltage system switching orlightning. The former is due to load switching andcan reach 2 or 3 times the nominal voltage of thesystem, while inductive or galvanic coupling cangive rise to a surge of more than 2 km around alightning impact point, reaching up to 20 timesthe nominal voltage (indirect lightning). This cancause immediate damage to the panels, thestructure, the building or any electrical deviceconnected to the system where the surge tookplace, or long-term damage even if the surgevalues are not very high.
Long-duration overvoltage(TOV) path
The arrester is activated in theevent of temporary overvoltage.This voltage is much lower thantransient voltages but substan-tially more destructive. The sys-tem is composed of a currentlimiter and a varistor. In the eventof increased voltage, the currentlimiter circuit limits the currentthrough the varistor. When nor-mal conditions are re-established(rated voltage), the surge arrestercontinues to perform its normalfunction.
Transient overvoltage path
The arrester is activated in thecase of instantaneous high volt-age surges lasting only a fewmicroseconds. Surges can beexperienced during switchingoperations and atmosphericdischarges. The system is com-posed of a gas tube surgearrester and a varistor. Bothcomponents have a very shortresponse time which is reflect-ed in a low protective residualvoltage level. This provides effi-cient protection of sensitiveelectronic devices.

DSF arresters are based on easily removable cartridges,have a red optical indication, while voltage free contactsare included for remote status monitoring. Therefore, theexhausted cartridges can be replaced without leaving theinstallation unprotected.The available nominal voltages are: 600VDC, 1000VDC, 1200VDC
